Great Mexican food in lovely Lander. Staff and owner are friendly, attentive and food is fabulous from house made salsa to perfectly balanced sauces. If you want soft street style tacos make sure you order them that way otherwise you'll get old style fried crisp taco shells. I have a hard time getting away from ordering the basics here. They really elevate a simple cheese enchilada into something special with their homemade enchilada sauce. It's nuanced and delicious. We are big fans of Mexican food. This was by far the best Mexican food we have had since a trip to NM a few years back. The chips and salsa were just right. The house Margarita was great. I had the Salsa Verde Burrito which was huge and delicious, and my husband's spinach enchiladas were chuck full of spinach. The service was excellent. We wish we were not just passing though town. This is specifically for the reviewer Kris S. A so-called "Elite Rater" they are a liar. The so-called homemade sauces and nuances of food are lies. This place has terrible service and the food and drinks taste very pre-made/canned food. The margarita might as well be the pre-mixed drinks you can buy straight from a plastic bottle. While passing through town we decided to give El Sol De Mexico a try for lunch. Street parking was available and we walked in and were seated immediately. Our server was friendly and had us munching chips and salsa before we knew it. The salsa was fresh and delicious. We ordered and food was served at our table in under 10 minutes. How do they do that? My dish pictured here as exactly as ordered, and tasted fantastic. Just the right amount of food to get me back in the road again. Thank you for a great meal. read more

My main disappointment is with the style of Mexican food here. Rather than the New Mexican-influenced Mexican you can sometimes get in the mountain states, this was firmly in the Tex Mex-style Mexican. That's not necessarily bad, it's just the main type of Mexican food I can get up in Alaska. This is big, hot plates, with a pile of beans and a pile of rice. But it's done well. They have various Mexican beers on tap and in bottle/can. They were out of most of our first choices though. read more

The food is good and the staff is very friendly and attentive. We had the Espresso Carne Asada Burrito and Shrimp Enchiladas. The burrito was tasty, but could have used more sauce. The enchiladas were quite good also. We found the salsa to be bland. The staff checked on us constantly, which was refreshing. read more

A gem in the middle of Wyoming next to the Rockies!! I've been coming here for 13 years and have never been disappointed. The service is wonderful and the food is amazing. The inside is so colorful and warm, very welcoming and cozy yet super festive! Love everything but my absolute favorite is the enchiladas with mole sauce. I'm impressed considering the location. The carne asada rivals that of any I've ever found in Southern California or Colorado.

We were driving through this little town on our way up to The Teton National Park and accidentally discovered this gem. We are from AZ so we are used to authentic Mexican food. -sigh- I should have known better but I was so hopeful. To start, the margarita was just the worst. It tasted so strongly of sour that you couldn't tell if there was even tequila in it. I ordered the queso fundido. It was a plate of melted cheese. I do not jest. I had to cut it with a knife (don't judge, I like cheese). It looked like it had been microwaved. I'm not sure why that's worse than any other method of melting a plate of cheese; it just bugs me. Also, the salsa was out of a jar. It was that jar salsa red- too bright to be real- and it had no real flavor. The enchilada suiza was ok. Tasty I guess. The rice and beans were actually good. I decided not to tempt fate by trying the coleslaw. Why does a Mexican restaurant have coleslaw? The best thing about the place was the service; it was average. So, overall, I would say I don't recommend it. read more

Very best Mexican food for several states! Excellent carne asada and machaca (shredded beef, seasoned and cooked long and slow) both the best I've ever had. Don't ever settle for ground beef when there is machaca available! Salsa is home made, and is so good we often get a quart to go. I have a Mexican friend who comes to visit each year and insists on eating here. He and his wife both say that this food is just like what his mother used to make. Very authentic. I believe it since most of the help speaks little to no English. I really like their food. I do wish they would make a Margarita from scratch. read more

I was looking for a good happy hour deal and saw their sign out front advertising theirs. I inquired within as to their happy hour specials and the waiter (manager) told me drinks were $1.50. I figured I couldn't go wrong with that so I went over to the bar and sat down and ordered a margarita, confirming again that margaritas were included in the special for $1.50 (I said, "Margaritas are $1.50, right?" and he said "yes."). I also ordered enchiladas. The food was good but the portions were way smaller than I was expecting. The margaritas were also good, though they were made from a mix from a box. At the end my bill came and it was nearly twice what I was expecting. I asked the manager as to why and he broke down the margarita costs by saying they started at $5.75 then became $4.25 after the $1.50 off. I asked why he told me they were $1.50 and he said he didn't say that. I forgot to ask why he confirmed that they were $1.50 when I asked that direct question. I ended up just paying the bill (and tipping, which I now regret), but I was pretty angry that night and the next day about the situation, as the cost of the meal ended up being way out of my budget. I felt intentionally deceived on the happy hour specials, perhaps because I told the waiter a little about myself and he knew I was only passing through. And aside from being ripped off on my drinks I wasn't particularly psyched about the food or the value. Definitely try another Lander restaurant. read more
