Will need to come back for a more better experience…read more The fried corn were great teaser, but a little short for a table teaser, no bread or olive oil. The main dish beef with rice and beans was over-cooked but well seasoned. The first dish soup was bland, needs more seasoning. Which came out at the same time.. leaving me to give up the beef-dish or the hot-chicken soup. While the 3rd dish, seafood-platter took over 20 mins to come out, leaving me empty after discarding my dish and watching my partner eat. It was freshly cooked and served and worth the wait. that seafood dish was more flavorful, well seasoned & too much over-sized! Should serve as a dish for two rather than just for one person. Service needs improvement & pump in to feel more invited. The ambulance was simple and posted with images of the local tourist hot spots in Peru. Needs more charter of its local heritage. Look out for a revisit.

I came with my Peruvian friend who wanted to try it, so that was fine in my case. He did all of the ordering & such for me. The food was good. Can't complain about that. I have had better from another place that I reviewed, but still good. I did notice one of the workers was aggressively sick, like coughing to near vomiting, & had runny eyes & nose, yet.....she was still serving people their food. DEFINITELY lost a star for that. We had Chicha Morada (a drink made from our purple corn, to my understanding), Chaufa de Carne, & Lomo Con Moriscos. Overall not bad, but not worth a return visit (for me) based upon having had better elsewhere. Grades: Chicha Morada: B Chaufa de Carne: B- Lomo Con Moriscos: B

When one Peruvian restaurant closes, another one opens…read more Puerto Peruano is a newly opened family-owned Peruvian restaurant found in the Seaport area of Elizabeth on 1st St. Restaurants regularly open and close in this area, as there is a less touristic aspect of foot traffic compared to downtown. Upon walking in, there's a strong aromatic smell of hot Peruvian dishes, either lomo saltado, or chaufa. There were several tables occupied by locals for lunch when I arrived. The architecture of the restaurant is a tad strange, although homely in its decorations, the restaurant being split in two halves by walls. The service was extremely friendly and attentive, full of smiles. The menu consists of seafood dishes (stewed and steamed fish, breaded, jalea, ceviche, soups, etc.) as well as other typical Peruvian dishes such as saltado, chaufa, bistec a lo pobre, and more, excluding pollo a la brasa. In addition, they have a whiteboard with daily specials. I went with the ceviche de pescado as well as a cup of chicha morada. The chicha was excellent with strong sweet flavor, topped with fruit. The ceviche was of great portion ($13), a nice crunchy but cooked fish taste, balanced by the lime and onions. It came with corn and a steamed sweet potato on the side, as is typical. It was served in a shallow fish-shaped dish, allowing ease of drinking the leche de tigre. As you can see in the picture of the ceviche, there is much attention paid to the variety of spices and herbs to the dish. The fact that the dish is very green, and there are fine chopped hot peppers are good signs! I look forward to returning to try some of their many hot dishes next!
