Chicken Mole
Sterling P.

Very small Mexican restaurant on 82nd and Flavel. We arrived late lunch time. We were served warm chips and salsa to start off. Val's chicken mole was soooo good, pretty sure it was made from scratch. Meanwhile I had Shrimp Diablo, medium hot, great sauce fabulous salad which had guacamole as the dressing, mmmmmmmmgood. I did have to remove shells from the shrimp, but they were cooked perfectly. Service was a little slow, but everything was scratch cooked. NOT CHEAP, but about average $40.00 including the tip. Worth every penny! By the way warm tortillas served with our meal( homemade).

This was supposed to be a corn tortilla quesadilla as stated on the menu. We got a flour tortilla and we are gluten free family.

My family ordered from here and what we received was not what was stated in the website menu. They claim to use organic masa from Three sisters and it is not at all what we got. I emailed the restaurant my complaint but never heard back from anyone.

The food is amazing. The woman serving me was helpful and kind. I loved the restaurants ambiance. I will be coming back for sure. So grateful they opened this place up close to home.

La comida tenía un sabor diferente ordené un poc chuc la carne tenía un sabor agrio no es lo que me esperab e comido esta por muchos años y esto no es un poc chuc por esta razón le dos dos estrellas no volveré esta fue la segunda vez

Poc-Chuc plate, panucho relleno negro, tamales, and fresh flan

Whoa this place is SO good!! The service was so friendly, there were comfortable booths, and it was decorated for Christmas. Two of us split the Poc-Chuc plate, tamales, panucho, and fresh flan for 30$. Everything was exceptionally well-balanced, especially the meats and pickled onions. And the side of beans was randomly amazing. I don't know what they add to the refried beans, maybe spices and lime juice? I would come back for the beans alone. Omg and the masa tortillas were notable too. Jeez. Literally the best meal I've had in years. I was not expecting insanely tasty food from this little place.

Nice people but service just wasn't it at all..... waited for about a good 30 min just for them to tell us they were out of asada

two tacos in a styrofoam container

This is our 3rd time eating here, and we love it! The panuchos are a good size and the Asada is very flavorful. It's nice and clean inside and very welcoming. Exited to have panuchos in our neighborhood

It is the kind of place you instantly feel comfortable settling into. Everyone we interacted with was incredibly kind, and the service was genuinely great throughout. We ordered the Quekas with vegan chorizo and black beans and they were SO good, honestly a standout. The chips and guac were also a hit, and I loved that the guac was actually cold. Such a small detail that makes a big difference. The Citrus Salad was super fresh, crisp, and delicious, which balanced everything out perfectly. I also tried the NA classic margarita and it was so refreshing. I loved the subtle touch of orange juice. Overall, such a lovely spot with amazing food, great vibes, and thoughtful details. I will definitely be back!

Today my wife and I enjoyed scrumptious Tacotes, one chicken and one Bok Choy with house made salsa. Also, the Tetela de Requeson, maiz, beans and sprouting broccoli with a house made requeson - kind of like ricotta cheese - very beautifully plated and so delicious. Extra side of yummy and creamy black bean frijoles with sour cream, butter, tortillas. Instead of desert, the Mezcal, chile and lime was refreshing. Right now open for lunch Thursday through Sunday 10-3pm. No fixed menu, changes with what's fresh - the way chef Angel loves to cook respecting what is in season. Service and ambiance is friendly and knowledgeable about the food and its origin - another reason I love dining here so I learn about what I'm eating and how it was inspired. Yes, the food plated looks so good, I am inspired to dig in. There's a reason it was recognized early in its start by Eater, Portland Monthly and the Oregonian as one of the best restaurants in the city because foodies seek out and love to go where the food experience is special - especially the chef tasting menus in the past. Now I'm watchful and ready to go back and see what the chef Angel is serving up. What else is so special is Republica was a James Beard award nominee too!

I was excited to go here as I had been meaning to visit for at least 6 months. I wasn't disappointed. This taqueria is the real deal, and very authentic. I also appreciate it's LGBTQ owned, and like to be inclusive in how I spend money. The tacos are amazing I had two there, and took two home. They were all delicious and not one disappointed. Their taco menu is very extensive, and it's nice that they have a lot of vegetarian options as well. One of my favorites was the one with mole ,and poblanos, also the chicken one, also the carnitas. Flavors so rich and satisfying. The staff is very friendly, and helpful. Extremely quick service which I love. Even though I only speak a little bit of Spanish. I tried, and they were very welcoming. They are fluent in Spanish. I knew it was an authentic taqueria when I heard a native spanish speaker speak Spanish at the counter. I don't want to leave out their drinks as they have quite a selection both alcoholic, and non alcoholic. I tried the horchata, which was amazing. I have been craving Pozole for a long time, and they had it as a special chicken with green sauce, and pork and a red sauce. Both simply amazing and a great deal. This restaurant is very reasonable, and you get quite a lot for the money. Last but not least I can't forget the ambiance which felt very authentic, and reminded me of being in a Taqueria in Mexico or Southern California. the place is decorated very thoughtful with a lot of candles, and many shrines. They also have a love of Mariah Carey and saw many photos of here in the restaurant. They have both outdoor seating and indoor seating. A lot of plants outside which all seem very happy and well cared for. I love this place, and will be going back for sure. The place is very casual which I appreciate. By the time we left around 6 PM, the dinner rush had started and a line was forming at the door. The interior is well decorated, modern, and clean. The server was friendly and service was fast. We ordered the bowl, one with carnitas and other with avocado. Both were very tasty! You can tell that the ingredients were fresh, the carnitas were tender and well seasoned. They also had a mango hot sauce brought to the table in a bottle that is amazing. I drenched my bowl with the sauce for the extra kick and flavor. The bowls are very filling. We ended up boxing up half of our food to bring home and finish for a late dinner. Would definitely come again and try their hot sandwiches. Will have to look into whether they sell their mango hot sauce separately as well. I'd buy a bottle!

Not one of them has disappointed but if I had to choose a favorite it would be the Ahogada which is perfectly balanced juicy rich and deeply flavorful every single time. Guero also has fantastic drinks and their destilados offering is truly outstanding. Whether you are exploring mezcal tequila or other agave spirits the selection here is thoughtful and exciting. I have had some meals at the bar where the bartenders were genuinely engaged knowledgeable and happy to walk you through their agave list which only enhances the whole experience. I will be honest and say that the service can sometimes lean into the typical Portland vibe of aloof and uninterested but there have also been moments especially at the bar where the staff really shines and makes you feel welcome and taken care of. Even with that quirk the overall experience is fantastic and it does nothing to take away from how much I enjoy eating here. If you are in Portland and love great tortas bold flavors and exciting drinks Guero is absolutely worth a stop. I will continue to come back every time I am in town and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable meal.
