During the pandemic when restaurants were suffering, my family ordered regularly from El Rincon and we tipped generously, even for takeout. We used to love to eat there. They used to recognize us when we came in. The last time we went there was quite different. We were seated, but never served. Five times I had to get up and walk to the front desk and request that a member of the wait staff attend to our table. After the second time, no one came at all. It took us about 45 minutes to get our food, which was brought to the table with the beans seared to the plate because it had been sitting for so long. We got our own beverages by getting up, walking to the bar, and waiting for service. The entire wait staff was rude and dismissive, when they acknowledged us at all. We waited so long for our ticket, we finally got up and walked to the front and explained that if someone didn't give me an invoice, we were going to leave. When the bill was finally rendered, I declined to tip since we received no service to speak of. El Rincon fraudulently added a 25% tip to my bill without my authorization and got the money out of my bank. I have since had my bank refund the fraudulent tip to me, but they still stole from my bank. The food at El Rincon is pretty good, but we will never return there again. This place is pretty horrible and that's putting it lightly.. everything tastes like it came from a can. The only thing that MIGHT be made fresh are the eggs.. the cheese is the cheapest, most processed cheese you will ever eat. You can make Mexican at home that would taste much better. Although it doesn't score high on ambiance, everything else was perfect. The Fish Tacos had entire filets of Fish, the Shrimp Chili Rellenos please above almost any expectations. The price was reasonable and we enjoyed it so much we are already planning our return; and we live in Arizona. So we have been going there since we moved to Austin (5 years ago). How ever the old lady who runs the place is HORRIBLE! She has no problem making people not feel welcomed or talking trash about the "gringo's" when she thinks they can't speak Spanish! We called in an order for pick up and when my husband got there they couldn't process his credit card because they were running the batch. That wasn't a problem and the younger lady was very nice to my husband and said it would be a few minutes but if he would like to have a seat they will be able to run the card in a few minutes. Then came the older lady who runs the place. She started talking in Spanish not knowing my husband is Mexican and speaks Spanish like it was his first language (he looks white but is 100% Mexican) She was saying "look at the stupid look on his face" and "these people are stupid for not caring cash anymore" After they were able to run the card my husband broke out his Spanish and told her to" have a nice day and to watch what she says" She acted dumbfounded and shocked. While yes they have good prices you can get way better food and service at El Taquito which is right up the road in Round Rock off Luis Henna. I am so angry at the way he was treated and the comments she made. She obviously needs to sell the restaurant to someone who cares about their patrons. read more

We drive by the restaurant pretty often and the parking lot is always full. We were excited to try it, but were gravely disappointed with everything. Food was flavorless and the restaurant layout is pretty awkward.. I had to walk through a maze just to find the restrooms, and the mens restroom is nestled inside the kitchen. El Rincon has never been what I'd call an exceptional restaurant, but it was close and not too terribly expensive, so we've put up with it. However, the last three times I've been there, they've shown me just how much lower they could go. To add insult to injury, their food preparation has become slow. I mean, not a little bit slow, but Jurassic slow. There's nothing about their food that really makes me want to wait 45 minutes for it. Then, the service started deteriorating. Waitstaff would disappear for 20 minutes at a time, leaving us with empty glasses or needing more tortillas. Then, the final straw - last night we had a waitress that had an ATTITUDE all night. She screwed up the order to begin with, and then left it sitting under the heat lamps so long after the kitchen had prepared it - we could see it sitting up there - that it came to the table as a dried out, overbaked mess. When asked for some flour tortillas, she glared at my girlfriend and demanded "HOW MANY?" Well, I tell ya what, cupcake - there are three of us dining here, why don't you quit being a tightwad and bring enough for all of us? I'm done. El Rincon was never that good, now it's just bad. Okay, I have a special fondness for small town TexMex joints -- not real Mexican food, obviously, but comfort food, and I love it. And I grade those places on a pretty generous curve. Even with the generous curve, El Rincon gets one star. Really bad food, really bad chips and salsa, tawdry and not too clean dining rooms, and waitstaff which consisted mostly of giggly high school girls who were more interested in comparing fashion tips than in waiting tables. OK, I know I live in Pflugerville, but that shouldn't mean I have to put up with terrible food, right? ... Right? We've driven past El Rincon a quadrillion times, each time with my husband saying we needed to try the place. After all, the parking lot was always packed. Should be a sign of good stuff. Unfortunately, it's not. We went on a Monday night, which is their kids' night. Kids eat free and there is a "clown" - i.e. a girl sort of dressed like a clown doing face painting. As we have a kid, we were shunted to the only available table in what apparently was the "kid zone", next to the patio where the clown was. The table itself was directly under a TV and next to the kitchen, which will become important later. I know I went and popped out a baby, but I hate being relegated to kid zone. Especially because it meant my son wasn't going to eat his food, it meant he wanted to wander around like the other kids. Not fun times. Anyway, my husband had the chile relleno. He ate it all up, but that isn't saying much, to be honest. I ordered La Senorita, which is an enchilada with chips and queso. I've had better enchiladas in Minnesota. The queso, which was doused all over my chips instead of in a cup, was clearly Velveeta. Not even with Ro-Tel added in. The service was awful, as well. We asked for milk for my son, and they didn't have any. What kind of restaurant doesn't have milk, especially on kids' night? Well, they did have chocolate milk. We went for water. Later on (as we were seated right by the kitchen) we noticed a delivery of milk (individual jugs), but were never offered any. Also, once our food was delivered, the waiter disappeared. We needed a box to take home the food my son didn't eat, not to mention the check, and waited for 20 minutes, obviously done eating, looking around the restaurant for signs of our waiter. We had to give up and request the check and box at the front. El Rincon apparently means "the corner", and that's how I felt eating there. Being punished in the corner. read more

We live pretty close to this joint and finally tried it out for a late Sunday lunch. This place will give you mixed feelings. Ambiance: We were sat in the corner and my view throughout lunch was a counter with a random bucket and bins with dirty dishes in it. There were obviously better tables in the restaurant, but nothing about the inside of the place was spectacular. Drinks: Corina Rita was good and the regular Marg was excellent. Smooth and you could easily drink a pitcher. So dangerously good :) Food: Guac needed salt and lime which we added ourselves at the table. You can get a really good amount of food for a cheap price. The combination plate was good and it was $8 bucks. Could easily be shared too if you were not super hungry. Service: Our server was very sweet and helpful. She originally forgot we ordered guac, but we reminder her and it was at the table right away. Other than that, service was fine. With drinks, an app, two meals and tip, we paid $40. I have lived in Pflugerville for 18 years and this place USED to be my favorite for their salsa, queso (with and without meat), fajitas, and attentive, friendly service~ all of which has declined over the past few years. Tonight, I'm DONE with them!! Because my husband and son are working, and I just got off work, I'm seated alone for dinner. The waiter brings me 1/2 a bowl of salsa with the chips. I ordered queso with taco meat (yes, that's all I wanted for dinner). He brings it, asks if I want a separate plate, while flashing "pity eyes"?!? Then on his next pass, brings me the check!? He never once looked at me again after dropping my check on the table. I tried to get his attention or the attention of any other wait staff without success. FINALLY, the couple my waiter was tending TOLD him I was trying to catch his attention before he came back to my table! The table next to me was exceedingly loud, the queso was as thick as wall putty with very little meat, peppers, or anything else, and the staff as a whole was very inattentive! I stood at the register for a full 5 minutes with staff walking all around me before someone alerted the "hostess" that I was there. I didn't say anything to anyone because if I spoke, I was going to make a scene, I was so angry. I could have walked out without paying and I doubt they would have noticed anytime soon!! Their service and food has been seriously declining, but I have NEVER had such a horrible experience as I had tonight. Alright, so I have lived in Austin for almost 4 years now. I am originally from Harlingen, TX and have also spent many years in corpus christi. I am VERY picky about where i will eat mexican food, as i am used to the best. I have tried many of the high rated places in austin, which turn out to be all fluff and the result of people liking trendy spots. I usually drive down to san marcos to Garcia's for enchiladas, but did not feel up to the drive tonight. We randomly drove to pflugerville and my husband chose el rincon, saying he thinks it looks like the kind of place i would like. wasnt sure then or now what he meant, but he was SO right! It was packed, which speaks for itself, We started with queso which was yummy and i had my favorite (mexican coke). I ordered the carne guisada which i lOVED because it wasnt all fat like most places. It was delicious! Their tortillas were wonderful and not store bought. The rice was my favorite kind of rice, spanish rice but without the tomatoes and corn. I tried some enchilada and almost wished I had ordered that instead but, next time. My husband ordered the chicken fajita plate which smelled amazing, but didnt even compare to the taste! It had a very nice flavor to it and again, not covered in fat. The food was so reasonably priced, it made it that much more enjoyable. The building isnt much to look at, but i like those kinds of places. My husband kept saying "oh, were coming back here". We have lived in Pflugerville since 2001 and this place has grown in popularity over the years. It has been good to see them expand their facilities and have better hours. I like to see our local businesses do well. However as much as I'd love to love this place given proximity to our house ... I just can't get into it. We have been probably four times total in all of these years. That should say how underwhelmed we are each time we go, but eventually we try it out again as it would be wonderful to have a nice and close go-to Mexican joint. This last time we went ... my husband ordered the fajita plate and we had to darn near beg for tortillas, they didn't just come alongside with the plate. Hello? Isn't that pretty standard to get tortillas with fajitas? I ordered the tortilla soup and I definitely appreciated that all of the toppings were on the side. But, it was disappointing that about 75% of the actual chicken meat was too fatty and not really edible. I tend to get tortilla soup at every Mexican restaurant that I go to and as far as it goes I've definitely had better. Their kids menu seems to be mostly fried American foods which was sort of odd as most Mexican restaurants we go to have similar cuisine for the kids as well. The train wreck of decor, tables, chairs, building and parking have the makings to be an eclectic Austin/Pville hole in the wall ... but the food needs to be a few notches better to really get my seal of notable hole in the wall approval. On a side note my husband is an electrician and said that it was clear the inspector was in a coma when passing their building. He easily saw numerous things wrong with the electrical work. I really wanted to like this place, but I was sadly disappointed. The place was very busy, so maybe I'm in the minority, but the food here was awful. I ordered the Carne Asada plate, which I can never find around here, and was brought back this slab of meat that was 60% fat and bone., the other 40% had no flavor whatsoever. The beans were cold, your sodas come in cans & they charge for chips if you get more than one basket. Woo Hoo! Just like most of the reviews here on Yelp*, over priced mediocre food in a terrible setting (cleanliness is not adhered to) is about all I can offer in this review of El Ricon. Just like most of the patrons here from P'ville, proximity to a home grown tex-mex retaurant would be a great part of the community. However, after numurous tries, El Ricon has missed the mark entirely. I would rather waste my gallon of gasoline and drive to Vasquez Tacos on Braker and IH35, which is affordable and they care about the patrons. First of all, workers at El Ricon do not believe in sweeping the floors, wiping off chairs, or cleaning the menus. Many extra surprises lurk from the beginning of your dining experience at El Ricon. Asking for more chips and napkins should never occur at a restaurant. That is a cardinal sin in my book. Enough said! Canned queso, small bits of chicken on my puffy tacos, bagged corn chips, dry rice ( possibly left overs from the previous day), 25 minutes to cook a kids cheeseburger, and the mens toilet next to the kitchen, are the numerous reasons to avoid this wrecked version of Chuy's. They need some serious over hauls before we set foot in this place. The management and owners need to step up and make some huge corrections. read more

Since this establishment is a mere minutes away from my home, and seems to do a pretty solid business, I had to check it out. Took our crew in for a Saturday dinner and found the place to be not too busy so we sat down right away. Chips and salsa, average, not bad. The menu, good prices on the run of the mill mexican fare. I ordered the fajitas because after all, this is a pretty easy meal and was first in the entree section, so I figured I could not go wrong. I also at times judge a place by the tenderness and flavor of their meat, so let the judging begin. The beef was tender enough I guess, but the flavor was almost non-existent. The rice and beans were also average, not bad but nothing that makes me want to have any more. I didn't even finish the meal, mostly because of the lack of flavor. Since this was my first trip to El Rincon, I'm willing to give it another try and maybe get enchiladas or something, but for now, two stars is all it deserves. read more

As a longtime extremely satisfied patron of El Rincon, after today, I will no longer be!! The experience was unacceptable for me and my family!!! I should have realized it was going to be a bad experience when I entered and was ignored, as I stood in front of several staff, past 7 minutes! Not only was the service at the table horrible, but we sat in an area without working A/C when the outside temps are over 95!! When I asked about the A/C, I was ignored by 2 staff people, then finally another one told me it was working!!! Well...I would have at least appreciated honesty and an apology, but that of course didn't happen!! If it was just me,I probably would not be writing this negative review, but we were a party of 12 celebrating my husband, son & granddaughters birthday!!! I love El Rincon. I've been eating there for many years. It's the greasy spoon kind of Mexican that you either love or hate. The queso is unremarkable but I've certainly had worse. The salsa is nice and garlic-y, just the way I like it. It's a little spicy, but not so much that my 2 year old can't eat it. (She likes medium spicy things - she IS my kid) The puffy tacos are a big hit with most anyone I know that's tried them. They also have live music quite often on weekends and they have a great brunch on weekends too. The brunch gets pretty busy, but it's worth all the hustle and bustle. All in all, it's not the best Tex-Mex you'll ever eat, but it is good and the price is right. Two thumbs up! read more

Have been going here for years, but won't be back again. Worst horchata I've ever had. Extremely slow service, even though they weren't very full. In the past, the wait for a seat for Sunday would have been considerable. Now, there were many empty tables and I can see why. The beans were dry and lumpy, the migas a greasy pile of cheese. And the person who rang me up didn't say a single word to me-just reached out to take my card, then handed it back without so much as a "thanks"-"kiss my a**"-or anything else, not even eye contact. When my kids were 15, working their first job at Dairy Queen, they never would have dreamed of treating a customer like that. I said, "you never said one word to me!" and she still didn't respond. This place is the hole in the wall Mexican place I've been dreaming about. Most times when I go, they are pretty busy, but fast. The wait has never been more than 10 minutes. I always get the Alambres Shish Kebob. It is always smoky, hot, and flavorful. The grilled tomatoes that come with it are awesome! While the chips are a little less than authentic, the tortillas more than make up for that. Tortillas can really make or break a Mexican restaurant. Tortillas here make the meal. Additionally, the staff has always been pleasant and helpful when I make special request. If I really feel like splurging, I get one of the pecan pralines at the front counter. This is a favorite spot for my siblings and myself. I only wish they were open more hours. Also, big portions here. You'll be eating for days. read more

I've lived in Pflugerville for 18 years, and have been here countless times. There are some things that are a definite negative, but the positives are also strong. My number one complaint with this place is the RICE. I have never had Mexican-style as awful as at El Rincon. It is absolutely horrid in its flavor which resembles cardboard. I cannot fathom how the owners/cooks serve this rice and think it is a worthy accompaniment to their food. I even went so far as to email them, but to no avail (yet). It's a real shame as this is such a seemingly simple item to make at least palatable. Like some of my other reviews, you may be confused as to why I would still give them 4 stars in spite of this glaring negative. Three reasons: 1) Their food is quite good. 2) The prices are reasonable, and 3) They let you substitute fries for the rice! Their enchiladas are some of my favorite. There are maybe two or three places that I can think of that have better enchiladas, but that's about it. After El Rincon's enchiladas, there's a pretty steep drop off into the "everyone else" category when it comes to your basic enchilada. Their fajita meat is pretty good, as are the tamales and other foods I've had there. Combines with the very reasonable prices, it's no surprise we coming back here. Now if they could just get the rice fixed up. The sad thing is that their rice and especially the beans used to be really good many, many years ago. I've noticed a disturbing trend with the reviews trending down due to complaints about poor service. That does seem to happen from time to time and something that I'll have to keep an eye on. One other thing that's an issue is that the A/C seems to be really overworked lately to the point of making some parts of the restaurant unpleasant. I love this place. I probably eat here 3 times a week. the dishes are consistent and very flavorful. The lunch specials are hard to beat! Where else can you get a plate of food and a large iced tea for 6 bucks? Very affordable. As one of the other Yelpers said, Place looks sketchy. Tried it again last night and it was still "okay" on the tex-mex scale. At least it wasn't just okay and overpriced like a lot of Mexican restaurants in Pflugerville. The first time we had enchiladas and I was turned off when they brought in food from HEB to the kitchen. The enchiladas were okay, standard tex-mex fare with the runny sauce. Beans and rice are kind of tasteless. Last night we tried the puffy tacos. I got the combination (1 beef and 1 chicken). I preferred the ground beef but the husband enjoyed the chicken. The chicken was chicken breast chunks which were marinated in something that made them pink. I thought the chicken lacked flavor honestly. I preferred the ground beef spice but it was in a pool of grease which made the taco soggy. We also tried the queso. It's pretty thick and congealed and it could use some salsa or something. It vaguely tasted like mac and cheese and seemed to be that Velveeta style. It only had like 2 or 3 jalapeños in the entire bowl so that gives you an idea of how flavorless it was. I suppose it's good for people who are anti-spicy food. All in all, it was okay. Not the worst, but not the best. At least it wasn't overpriced too. Salsa: There was some kind of a grassy note in there that I did not care for. I asked the manager if it was cactus and he said there's no cactus in the salsa. I didn't like the salsa. My little neighborhood Tex-Mex place is being overrun. The food is home made and good. Fresh flour tortillas are high on my list of loves. But you people keep going there. Stop it! They are constantly busy, making it hard for the cooks and wait staff to keep up at times. But the food... I go back regularly. This place reminds me of heading down to Corpus Christi where you get plate-sized breakfast tacos for $1.00. El Rincon isn't quite that cheap, but it's as good. The atmosphere is very comfortable, it feels much like heading home to me. I've only been there for breakfast, but it seems they have Mariachi on some nights. It seems El Rincon doesn't serve fajitas for one on a sizzling hot plate anymore, it's just cooked fast on the grill and served cold. the fajitas were soggy and bland, the rice was... well... tasteless rice. the beans with cheese on it was decent. The pico was nowhere to be found. I use to go to El Rincon several years ago and it was good. Decided tonight to take the family there and was shocked how bad the service was and how horrible the food tasted. I will no longer support El Rincon. Total comfort mexi food in a very casual atmosphere. I dug it for what it was, but I definitely don't want to give the wrong impression here. When I got my food, I was like, "oh, this reminds me of the roach coach we used to get lunch 10 years ago". The salsa is passable. Nice spice, but seemed to be lacking something. The chips were good. They bring huge water glasses, which is nice not to have to ask for a refill every 2 seconds. There was a few people there, and TVs playing sports, and a few servers around doin' their thing. My food came out a few mins after my husband's. We did get up to ask for water once, but we were being impatient and it was bad timing, she was pretty attentive otherwise. And, like I said, it was pretty good comfort food. My taco salad was pretty much a giant deconstructed beef taco. My husband got the burrito dinner and said the flour tortillas were AWESOME, and they were covered with queso-y goodness. The refried beans were pretty darn spectacular and the rice wasn't too bad either. It's not my normal mex-flavored jam, but I definitely wouldn't pass up coming there again. read more

My sister is a serious Mexican food afficiando and she says that the enchiladas as El Rincon are the best she has ever had! I have to agree. I also love their chilaquiles - delicious! and their salsa is really tasty. Just chunky and spicy enough. We eat here probably more than we should but the food, price, and atmosphere are right. Plus on Monday nights, Kiwi the Clown is there and the kids love her. Last time the both got balloon swords and had a blast! read more

Drinks: Mexican Martini - too sweet, no olive juice, and almost no alcohol. It was like drinking candy. Entrees: Carne Asada - a thin piece of beef with bland flavoring. Supposed to be served with a side of rice, which the waiter brought about 10 minutes AFTER the entree arrived. The rice was stone cold. Puffy Taco Plate Especial The "puffy tacos" were soggy and not very fresh. They had to been sitting under the heat lamp for quite a few minutes. Not surprising since the entire outdoor covered patio area was only being waited on by ONE guy. The plate was also supposed to come with guacamole, which I was told they were all out for the night. However about 20 minutes later, I noticed a table just a few feet away that had ordered the guacamole as an appetizer. Low and behold, they got their order of guac. That's just poor business practice. It's too bad this place was awful. They're located conveniently but we will not be going back. read more
