My parents that live here wanted cheap drinks and I can definitely see the appeal from the cheap liquor perspective because after dining here, you wouldn't choose this place for the food. I've never had Mexican food from anywhere (that I can recall) that was just bland and had zero flavor. Like you're eating something and everything just tastes bland, no flavor. I ordered the Seafood Enchiladas and the Refried beans don't even come with a little cheese on top. Shrimp tasted like cheap frozen shrimp from the store. The queso tasted like it came out of a packet that you add water to. The best food was the chips and salsa and thats saying something. The crazy part is this place has been here for A WHILE. We've been wanting to try this place, but were sadly disappointed on many fronts. It took a long time for someone to greet us and an even longer time for a server to come up to us once seated. We had to flag down someone so that they could remind or assign a server to our table. Even so, we stuck around to try the food and wish we didn't... the fajitas were dry and tasted old and we couldn't even stomach it. The queso seemed like velveeta. My family has been enjoying this place on and off for over 25 years. It's a standard, family-owned Tex-Mex spot. I'm a fan of their tortillas and beef fajita nachos, while my husband always goes for the cheese enchiladas. Nowadays, we get it delivered--it's always fast, hot, and reasonably priced. Pflugervillains have a love/hate relationship with El Rincon, and I'm no exception. It is really just OK. And sometimes (especially in Pflugerville), OK is all you need. I have been here now for breakfast and dinner and will say breakfast is probably the superior option. Tortillas and salsa are both pretty good. For dinner, I've tried the puffy tacos and chicken flautas -- again, just middle of the road. I was surprised to see a cucumber margarita option offered the last time I stopped in, and even more surprised that it was quite good. The service was decent for breakfast; terrible at dinner. The atmosphere is really not great -- the whole restaurant could use a major renovation, but sometimes a good hole-in-the-wall is what the people want. There are far superior Mexican and Tex-Mex options around here, but the parking lot is always crowded, so ... I guess the people have spoken? read more

Let me sum this up quickly: El Rincon serves some rather mediocre Mexican food and pitiful frozen margaritas at a decent price. The frozen margarita I ordered (which comes dashed with a maraschino cherry - a first for me) tasted about as tequila-infused as a dry riverbed. Only sour mix. Lots and lots of sour mix. Couldn't stomach it, should've sent it back to the limey abyss it came from. I ordered a two-burritos plate and specified one to be beef and the other chicken. When they came out, I discovered both were ground beef. Not great, but I still ate most of the burritos. My wife had a cheese enchilada, a tamale, and a crunchy taco. She said it was all really bland, but she still ate most of it as well. The tortillas, I'm guessing, were not made in-house, and neither are the tortilla chips here. If they are made in-house, I'd be surprised. The service was good, but then again, we were sitting at the small bar, so that's it was rather difficult to be ignored by our bartender. The price for our plates was around $10, and the margarita was about $8. Nice price, but you get what you pay for, you know. On our way out to the car my wife said, "Baby, I love you, but promise to never take me back here again." So there you have it. read more

We've been coming here for 20+ years but had a very different experience tonight. We went in for an early Sunday dinner around 5pm and immediately noticed booming DJ music - way too loud for a Sunday evening dinner. It was so loud we could barely communicate with our server or eachother. My husband ordered beef enchiladas but got chicken instead. When we pointed out the mistake, the server tried to give us what looked like a rejected meal from another table to make up for it. We appreciated the gesture but didn't accept it. We were hungry so just went with what we received. My meal was correct and good. I'd like to point out we didn't request any comps nor received any on an $80 tab for 2. If I were a manager (we didn't see one) at the very least I would've comped one drink. There was also a very loud table nearby arguing about their bill ($66 for 4, yeah heard all about it), which added to the already chaotic atmosphere. Other patrons were visibly unhappy with the environment and we saw people asking to be moved to different tables & sections. This is no longer the family-friendly atmosphere we've enjoyed for over two decades. After 20 years of family dinners here, this was completely different from what we've come to expect. Not sure if this represents a permanent change in direction, but it's probably our last visit. It's disappointing, but things change. Wishing El Rincon the best. read more

2nd visit here. It's been a while since visiting. I think I've come to the conclusion that the food here is about quantity and not quality. So if you're big on portions then this place is for you. Plus you get free chips and salsa and $3 beers, That's the 2 stars. The quality of food is not bad but not really about flavor. I had a chimichanga and the wife had a taco salad. Food seemed a little salty, minus much flavor. They were busy so maybe that is why service seemed slow but at the end of the day, it was slow. The room was loud. My wife says we haven't found a place with good chilaquiles, the reviews on El Rincon actually had me bypass this place in the past. We decided to give it a try only to get there and find they were getting ready to close (their Christmas party). We were the last ones that they sat but we weren't rushed and the staff was very friendly. It's a nice sized place with a bar area that we are going to come back and try. It was a Sunday visit so a Michaela was due, I'm not as big a fan of the Michi as my wife but even I commented on how good it was. Nice and spicy! For our entrees my wife got the pozole and I got the chilaquiles. My wife looked disappointed that the pozole was a white vs red, but that didn't take away from how it tasted. Lots of meat and all the fixings, and in her opinion, best when tostada tortillas provided. The chilaquiles were delicious, green sauce didn't soak the chips, eggs were perfect and good fresh flower tortillas provided. Carbs were not a concern this morning, along with the chips and tortillas the plate had some great fried potatoes and refried beans! It took me 4 years to come try this place! I regret not coming any sooner. The restaurant itself is a little outdated, but it doesn't stop people from going. Every time I pass by it's a FULL parking lot. I went for their breakfast and had the chilaquiles. They were spicy and tasty. I want to go back and try their menudo, because that will be the real test to show if it is good here. I'll update my review once I try. I did like the vibe and welcoming when we arrived. The waitress was not as attentive as I would like so some improvement there is needed. We did have to get up and look for her to get the bill. However very nice and respectful lady. Second time I had the menudo and it was good. Something I look for is that it's washed enough/properly. It had a spice to it, but wasn't spicy where your mouth is on fire. That was perfect for me. The meat was not as soft as I like it and the chunks were cut too big. Huevos rancheros were not what I was expecting so I would not recommend. I've ordered delivery multiple times and ToGo once from this establishment and I've always found everything to be satisfactory. The cuisine is super tasty, well prepared, taste authentic and is reasonably priced. When I ordered, they brought me the wrong item. I went ahead and ate anyway because I was pressed for time. I used my card to pay and left a tip anyway. When I saw the price on my card I was over charged. I said ok, no problem. The next day when I viewed my account, they added money to the bill. I don't know how the heck that can be done. The place is high in prices, not worth the money. Next time I'll just go to QT and get a hot dog and a soda. Always check your charges on your card. Never going back there that's for sure. read more

I mean the food is definitely good and the prices are reasonable considering how expensive everything is now and day Anyway, the mayor complains for me are their service not all servers are good! I visited this restaurant 16 years ago and hated it and never set foot in it again until today. I was craving tacos, and my hubby joking said, "There's always El Rain-cone!" Because he knows how much I bad talked it over the years. Well, to call his bluff, I agreed to give it another try for dinner tonight and. . . Y'all!?! Not only was the service good, the food was GREAT! The beef fajitas were tender and well seasoned, the flour tortillas were homemade and hot/fresh, the ices tea was just the right amount of sweet and the puffy tacos were delicious (although the shell was more of a gordita texture than a traditional puffy taco, in my opinion but still good)!!
