El Rey Azteca - enchiladas with a side of rice and beans and my husband got a quesadilla. - Mexican Near Me - Gallatin, Tennessee

The staff is friendly. It is bright and colorful. The food is not that great. It is bland and does not represent authentic Mexican food at all. I had higher expectations. I grew up going to Mexico a lot as a kid and I lived in. Phoenix the last 12 years. I have had authentic. I wish the Mexican restaurants would share their true culinary culture with Tennessee as a whole. read more

Staff was friendly. Restaurant was cool inside on a hot day. Draft beer tasted off. Tequila was good. Food was very bland and not authentic at all. Enchilada was barely warm. Dry ground beef on toastaguac and stuffed in chili relleno, which wasn't battered in egg and stuffed with cheese like a true rellano. TN is not known for authentic mexican food, but this is one of the least authentic we've ever had. read more

The food, service and prices here are excellent. I commented to my wife that this was the best service I have ever received in any restaurant in my 55 years. The building isn't the greatest but that is not high on my priorities. read more

Food always very good & service is excellent. We've tried several Mexican restaurants in the area, Hendersonville & Gallatin but always come back to El Rey's which does not disappoint. read more

Always great food and atmosphere. Staff is very friendly and attentive. A great place to take the family

Got the fajitas texanas and beef chimichanga to go. The service was clean, fast and friendly. The salsa portion was larger than I have had at other Mexican restaurants in to go orders; although it was lacking flavor sadly. My fajitas were very bland but they did have plenty of shrimp compared to other restaurants. I went home and seasoned them more so that they were more palatable. They also gave two packs of flour tortillas to go with the fajitas; most restaurants only give one. My mother's beef chimichangas were a little tough and mediocre as far as flavoring. I probably wouldn't eat her again; might come back to just try the margaritas. read more

Fast friendly service. The salsa and cheese dip are the best in town. Great place to enjoy with family or friends.

I have tried this place off and on. One time I ordered out and found a dead coach roach on my food bag. Ended up giving it another chance 5 months later and this time we ordered out and there was an short female employee reaching in their chip container grabbing a chip breaking it in half and eating one half and putting other half back. She did it like 4 or 5 times. Foods pretty good. read more

Had dinner there last night and it was one of the best meals we have had. Everything was fresh and the service was great! I had the fajita burrito and was perfect and beans were fantastic. I are way you much! We'll be back! read more

Just ate there, the service was a 5, they were great and attentive. We didn't enjoy the food. It all tasted bland and like it came from a package. The chips were good, salsa wasn't great, queso we liked. We also liked the authentic decor. Cool place overall, great service, if food was improved it would be a great place to dine :) read more

Great lunch!! Fast service. I had chilaquiles with steak. Really good. I'll give that dish an 8. It was a little different that the original. Still great flavor. Also chilaquiles are served with beans not rice. Again, great flavor. Next time I'll make sure to tell them how I like them. Mi micheladas with Negra Modelo were delicious. Manager was on top of the tables. Nice flow. Thank you. read more

The food and crew were fantastic! My food was brought out so fast & the staff was so helpful!

I really wanted to like El Rey Azteca. We arrived Friday night at 6, and were seated immediately, even though there was already a good-sized crowd there. Our waiter was very friendly, but the service was kind of slow. I believe that the kitchen isn't large enough to support all the tables they have. Their salsa was very good, but the guacamole was very disappointing. It was more like a bland avocado soup than a dip. I have no idea what went into their Texana Margarita, but it was very good. The chicken chimichanga was OK, because I have finally learned that I have ask to have the queso left off of my order. The chili poblano was outstanding, though. The deal-breaker for us was my daughter's taco salad. She ordered the taco salad with black beans instead of beef. What she got looked nothing like the picture on the menu. It was some kind of soupy mess that did not include black beans, lettuce, or sour cream. I have no idea how anybody could call that any kind of a salad. read more

El Rey has been the go-to place for Mexican Food in Gallatin for the last 20 or so years. My family and I have frequented it since it opened and my mom threw me a surprise 18th birthday shindig here (to my teenage embarrassment...). Anyway, I swung in for a Cinco de Mayo lunch with my mom last week and I am proud to say that my great memories of this place held true. From the Queso Fundido to the Margaritas, everything was fantastic! Service was fast and friendly! I don't stick around Gallatin too much these days, but I am happy to know that El Rey Azteca is still awesome after all these years. read more

Rumor is this place is owned by the same family as Dos Margaritas. My wife and I prefer this location, and not just because it is within stumbling distance of la casa. The servers here are all Mexican men, and they are hard working, amiable and attentive. The food is great and consistent. The prices are fabulous. The server will remember you on your 2nd visit. I heartily recommend the chips, salsa and queso. It's killer. Of course they make the margaritas that most gringos will call great, and they have all the combos and platters you'd come to expect. There is a great atmosphere to the place, and they've always got some futbol on from the home country to lend some authenticity to the place. This is our favorite Mexican place in Gallatin. read more

First impression, small, cute, ample parking for its size with potential for crowding bc the tables for large groups are centered in a tight area... Colorful decor, clean in appearance (shakers on table were clean and full, no grime on bottom). As I was alone, I was greeted and seated quickly and they were moderately busy... only 2 spaces open when I pulled in. Chips are fresh, though not home made... salsa was very sweet, none of the "mexican" spices you would normally anticipate... great for kids, probably. Guacamole was more of an avocado/cilantro duo, very blended, too much for my taste but aside from texture it was "ok". Ordered Pollo Fundido, looked good, served appropriate temperature. Chicken breast, very thin, seasoned well and moist, topped with (a lot) of cheese sauce (white cheese, also not my favorite but flavorful), with sautéed bell peppers, tomato and onion, Spanish rice. Do not order if you don't like your foods "touching" as they are layered: rice, vegs, chicken and cheese. Vegetables were grilled to tender, not mushy. Rice is moist and flavorful. Cheese is very salty. Side order of jalapeños were served promptly. Not overly spicy, even for a peno. Being from Tx, I always enjoy a good foodie challenge in the spice category. Can't complain, since I am in Tn... My server was attentive but not bothersome. He checked on me often and either got what I requested or left me alone. My advice: don't write your review as you eat this dish as the rice gets smushy under the chicken and vegs. Otherwise, try it out. I'll be back when I am in the area! PS Serving size was more than I could eat in 2 days.... with or without my "appetizer " read more

El Rey Azteca - Pollo Fundido, "guacamole and salsa", Dos Equidistant Lager..... - Mexican Near Me - Gallatin, Tennessee

Food and service were great, and has been consistent every time we go! Great spot! The quesadilla fajita is my go to, and the margaritas are rock solid. I will be back without a doubt! read more

Had an amazing lunch today! Chimichanga 100%! Two meals, a soda AND tip came to $20! What?! Going to be tempted to go here every time I find myself in Gallatin. Food was sooo fresh and DELICIOUS! Friendly staff and right on top of keeping the drinks, chips & salsa coming! read more

Order out here all the time. Pricing is good. Honestly my favorite Mexican restaurant. My order is always ready for pick up in 10 minutes! When I pick up I'm in and out, and the staff are always so nice. Definitely recommend checking this place out! read more

Carnitas were a bunch tough little chunks. Day after resulted Aztec's revenge. Spent much of the day in the outhouse.

Our favorite Mexican restaurant for the past 22 years! Always fresh & great food. Quick take out, too. 5 STARS!

Hilarious staff and super speedy with everything! Have been eating here since i was born haha

I love El Ray's! This is the go to place for Mexican Food in Gallatin. The food tastes great and the service is quick. I have never waited over 10 minutes for my food to be brought to the table. I've been enjoying meals there for several years and hope to continue doing so for several more. read more

Took my girlfriend to eat here and the food was not that great, also it took forever to get the food. I will not be going back.

Best service and Mexican food in Gallatin! Quesadilla El Ray is delicious!

We ordered takeout, food took about 30 minutes to get. They didn't give us forks even though we asked for them. Food was not good. Tiny portions and it made us sick. Would not reccomend. read more

I just had the most amazing palate pleasures that I hadn't had in a long time. I think Im in love with this food. Its "the one";). I was taking a walk when I detected the most mouthwatering aromas emanating from this place. Since it was my cheat day, my curiosity got the best of me and I later went in. The salsa is the best Ive ever had. The tortillas tasted homemade. The homemade hot sauce was tasty. Words cant even begin to describe the deliciousness of the fajita rey dish. Simply delectable and impressive. This place is far above any Nashville Mexican restaurant. The price is great and the restaurant interior looks fantastic. The only downside is that the staff seemed a bit rude. Maybe I caught them on a bad day. But still is my favorite Mexican food ever. You must try! read more

This is the best Mexican restaurant in the area! The warm tortilla chips are always light and delicious, and every dish I have tried there is delicious! My favorite is the chicken Fajitas. Give them a try! read more

This mexican restaurant does not disappoint. Great food, great prices...it's as good as any in Gallatin.

I've eaten El Rey several times now- once inside and twice take out. The portions are plentiful, food is yummy, and service is exceptional. Hubby and I prefer El Rey over Dos Marg for several reasons but one is essential to type here- way better chips and sals read more

Terrible Mexican food there attention to detail is lacking this is the second worst Mexican food I've had

This is the closest I've found to authentic Mexican food in Sumner County. The restaurant is very small, but very clean, and the wait staff is very attentive. I've eaten both inside the restaurant and ordered for pick up, every single time the food is fresh and the portions are great. Prices are amazing. Great place to take the family for a low cost Mexican meal. read more

I have been coming here for years, but no more after today. The food quality has been going down lately and the service is not as good as it used to be. Today after a long day of work I went over with my wife to eat and we waited for about 15 minutes for a table. Another couple walked in and were seated immediately. We got up and left and nobody even noticed. I will be getting my Mexican fix elsewhere from now on. We will have to go Mt. Juliet and visit Mia Casa :) read more

Completely and totally agree with the previous reviews. The service, food and price are all amazing. Their queso is quite possibly the best thing I have ever eaten. It's a teeny tiny little place. If you aren't from town you probably wouldn't think much of it. It really is worth trying though. read more

I would give this place 5 stars, but they have really gone down with the unprofessionalism. My best friend can't eat there anymore without the waiters trying to get her number and the last time one of the waiters kissed her on the cheek when she got carry out. That's a shame, but Dos Margaritos down the street has the same food, and it's better. So that's a total win, and you don't have to put up with slimy dudes trying to pick you up. read more

I have eaten here for longer than I can remember. I have never had anything that I didn't like. It is alway hot and fresh. I really like their salsa and the chips. I tried the tamales the other day and they were not as good as, I get in California but, still good. The servers have always been nice and super quick, for dine in or carry out. It's kind of hard to think that others have had a bad experience here. I never have. read more
