First time eating here. There's a lot of parking and approximately ten tables. Most people were ordering food to go. The place was pretty busy. It's nothing fancy, nice decor and a big kitchen. The staff were all friendly. My wife ordered two quesebirria tacos with comsomé. I ordered the taco plate 3 tacos)with two asada and one al pastor. It came with beans and rice. My teenager ordered 4 tacos, two asada and two al pastor. The beans were to die for. So much flavor. The rice was delicious as well. The asada was bursting with flavor and the al pastor... well, it was as delicious if not better than the asada tacos. My wife loved her quesebirria tacos, but felt the consomé was a little on the oily side. They did bring a small thing of chips and salsa after we ordered and sat ourselves. The chips were freshly made and all 3 of the salsas were delicious, although my least favorite was the green one. I'll definitely be back and try other things on the menu. If you are going to an event for a popular group or artist you're in for an uncomfortable time. They over crowd the space and charge you for a cup of water even though it gets to over 85 degrees in there(illegal in California). You'll be rubbing up on everyone and everyone is sweaty. There is no room to dance. You'll just be packed shoulder to shoulder and will have to literally squeeze through everyone to get anywhere in the establishment. They need move and get a bigger venue or stop overselling tickets. $80+drinks just to be uncomfortable. 0/10 would recommend. read more

This restaurant has done a great job on updating everything from the last time I came here for my mom's birthday dinner a few years back. Man such an improvement!!! So nice and spacious but I can tell the prices have gone up too, which is understandable. We did not have reservations but we were seated right away it was pretty empty but we did get there at an early time. This is my mom's favorite restaurant, she always used to come here with my dad back in day to come eat and dance! So I thought to myself why not take her out to her favorite restaurant where she shares a special memory of my dad! As always she always gets her favorite fish of zarandeado. She loved every bite she even finished her whole plate! My sister got the camarones al mojo de ajo and she loved it too it was very flavorful but she said it was a bit too oily. The boys got chicken nuggets with fries as always they finished their whole plate, love my fatties! My brother got the mariscada maztlan, and he f***ed that up!!! That plate was HUGE!!! And he loved every bite of it!! I got the camaron fajtas and man it was sooo delicious and flavorful. The only part I didn't like so much is that there wasn't enough shrimp in it it was mainly veggies. As for the drinks we all feel in love with the mango chamoy drink!!! It was like a smoothie and you couldn't taste the alcohol which is dangerous lol!! The strawberry margarita was too sweet not really my favorite. I just sticked to the mango chamoy drink!! Giving this place a 4 out of 5 because I love the customer service, food, environment, and overall experience. We were a group of friends and family (8 guys) attracted by radio commercials and comments about the place, when we arrived we faced the first obstacle...! THEY DO NOT ACCEPT CARDS THEY CHARGE CASH...! and the local ATM...! IT DIDN'T WORK!--we had to go out and look for a BANK and there is a BANK OF AMERICA ($5 x CASH) 2 miles away, we came back and the table we previously chose and the ones around it...! THEY WERE NO LONGER BECAUSE THEY WERE FIXING IT BECAUSE A MARIACHI WOULD ARRIVE 2 HOURS LATER! (??) They took us to a corner (next to a bathroom) even though we were the only customers and "WE PROTESTED WHY ARE THEY TAKEN US TO THAT CORNER?" The waitress told us that this "WAS A VIP AREA($$$)" and that it was reserved for "SELECTED CUSTOMERS" and they came not only to eat and listen to THE BAND & MARIACHI LIVE (they are going to drink...) stoically we calmed down and We ordered "3 orders of SHRIMP EMPANADAS/ 2 AGUACHILES/ 1 MAR Y TIERRA/ ROASTED MEAT & 1 ZARANDEADO FISH"... it was a 40 minute wait and 2-3 SODAS when they arrived with all the food in one trip (there was NO SPACE AVAILABLE ) and the waitress set up the food plates(?) for us, it's not worth mentioning something, but we could never find out the EMPANADAS because they say they were shrimp, the AGUACHILES had 9-10 SHRIMPS open in 4 to appear to be more ( ?) too much onion and the green sauce was the same as the tacos, the CARNE ASADA was never fully cooked (it never lost the flavor of FROZEN MEAT), the rice and beans were very scarce on the plate (maybe 2 TEASPOONS), and the SHRINKED FISH was "BURNED" and with the same tendency as roast meat... each dish is usually presented with 5-6 corn or flour tortillas/dish in any restaurant..."HERE THEY GAVE US 12 TORTILLAS IN TOTAL" and there were 8 of us PEOPLE...(?) we told the waitress and she told us that the "EXTRA ORDER OF 5 TORTILLAS cost $2.50"... the experience in that place was anything but MEMORABLE... and we have never returned... maybe it is popular because of the NOISE AND THE RUDE ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT... but that is not attractive to me, ALSO IT IS NOT AS ECONOMIC AS THEY SAY read more

Food was not all that great. We used to come here allot before COVID, I believe they changed management. The food was awful we ordered pescado sarandeado, which takes 30 minutes to cook, so we usually call it ahead which was never a problem. They told us we couldn't do that. We got there it looks like a hall with scattered tables, they remove all the old seats and put us smack in the middle, which there was no customers there. The menu only has Mexican seafood and features food from the Nayarit area on the west coast of Mexico. It is definably not the typical tex/mex food that most of the restaurants in Concord serve. I stopped for a late lunch. The restaurant was not full; there were two families with young children and two other tables with people. Perhaps the large dance floor and the closed, until the evening, bar scares people off, but shouldn't because the food was very good. I ordered Camarónes (shrimp) Rancheros, they came in a smoky sauce with tomatoes, bell peppers and onions. The menu describe it as a tomato sauce, it seemed more buttery to me. I never eat beans at Mexican restaurants they are always to heavy and fatty, these were different and I liked them. The rice was pleasant, but bland, it was pefect to put the shrimp and sauce over because it did not over power the main attraction. The chips were warm and fresh and the salsa was mild. I like salsa hotter but somehow it was all gone when I finished my lunch. I will be back to try something else. It is cash only! read more

I really enjoyed El Rancho. The food and drinks were great. The ambiance was 1970s Dennys. The waitress was sweet and helpful. We just missed the Mariachi band which may have been okay. They specialize in seafood...shrimp, crab and langostino. They were all very good. Some of the dishes were quite spicy which i enjoyed. It seems that this restaurant caters to local Mexican Americans...which is probably an indication of the foods authenticity. read more

I've been here three times, always on a Sunday afternoon. This is not your normal Mexican joint. It's very authentic, mostly seafood. The decor and service are also very typical of a real Mexican restaurant and very few of the wait staff speak English. I own a home in Mexico and this food is very consistent with coastal towns - I love it. The service is so so, just like in Mexico. The ambiance is mildly chaotic, just like Mexico (non touristy Mexican places). This place makes great drinks, has excellent Mexican music and outstanding food. There are no burritos or tacos, but lots of ceviche, octopus tostadas and shrimp dishes. There are chicken nuggets for kids and enchiladas for the less daring. Cash only. I live a few blocks away from this restaurant and knew it was a good night club on the weekends, but had never tried their food before and now I really wish I hadn't. It's so over priced for some frozen, can tasting seafood. I ordered a ceviche tostada and I don't know if I can even call it that. All I saw was onions and tomatoes and the fish was slim to none. My husband ordered their seafood cocktail and he was not impressed at all. Everything tasted like it came from a frozen bag or can. The cocktail was also filled with onions and tomatoes. A very small portion of seafood for a large amount of money. I much rather go to Playa Azul, La Pinata, Las Montanas any where else but here again. I am a little surprised to be entering the first review for El Rancho, since it is a large restaurant with good food. Of course, every time I go, the clientele seems to be 100% Mexican, which is in itself a good sign. The menu is standard Mexican stuff, with some seafood selections. The real winners are the beans, which you should order as "frijoles charros", not the refried ones. The charro beans come as a little soup with bacon and other tasty things added. They wanted to charge us $10/each to come in and dance for about 40 minutes, because you know most places close down or shut down music/dancing around 1:30am. I actually want to give this restaurant 3.5 stars but that isn't an option. Three stars seem low as my son and I had a good meal here despite the other reviews. Son had tacos with pork which wasn't on the menu and I had shrimp with garlic, butter, white wine and hot sauce, which was cooked just right. The pinto beans they serve on the side is also pretty good. Place lacks atmosphere but I am ok with that. Eating at fancy looking places gets a little boring after a while.
