I've tried another El Rancho location before and it was about the same as this one. The service was good but the food wasn't memorable. I was excited about the chicken nachos and tamales but the meat was bland. The margarita was mostly mix & no tequila. Also, there was a gnat in my pitcher of water. Service was ok, food was - well hard to describe. I ordered tacos- fairly simple, the cornerstone of Tex-mex cuisine. I made a serious err in my judgement though and did not get the simplest version of tacos. I went bolder and got the Mexican street tacos. I decided to try this place out since I was craving some mexican food so I finally did. We came in for dinner and it was fairly slow and were seated right away. They have tons of items to choose from at fairly reasonable prices. I decided to go with the beef fajitas for 2 and a side of tamales. The fajitas come with rice, beans, guacamole, sour cream and some diced tomatoes. They also give you warm flour tortillas wrapped in foil. Shortly after we placed our order the meal arrived at our table and before I even noticed anything the waitress let me know that the beef fajitas were burned and she will give me more meat later. The tamales were a little dry and had a chili enchilada sauce over it. Overall the fajitas were okay with the grilled onions and peppers and the rice and beans were good to complement it. Since we had so much meat I asked for more tortillas and she gladly gave them to me. I will return in the future and try some other items. read more

Honestly I was afraid to try this place because of all bad the reviews. But I really wanted a Margarita and it was super close and let's face it it's kinda of hard to mess up chips and salsa. So we first started with a round of drinks, delicious and the perfect amount of alcohol . We had lotsss of chips and salsa it was really good! Then we ordered the queso, pretty damn good if I do say so myself. Then we ordered the combo fajitas for 2 OMG this order is HUGE! It easily could feed 4 people. We ended up taking most of it home and we ate a good bit of it! These are some awesome fajitas btw, best ones I have had at a Mexican restaurant in a long time. All in all this place was a really good Mexican restaurant and I will definitely be back again, I would highly recommend this place to others! The prices are great also! I think some of the reviews for this place are a bit harsh. Is it great/authentic mexican food? No. Its a Mexican Food version of Applebees. Lots of families and groups and pretty predictable taste. Ive always had good service and for us it serves its purpose in a pinch. Kudos to them for experimenting with a new chip that wicks away the majority of the oil. They are presumably healthier and they taste....umm baked, ie not that tasty. But they get an A for daring to mess with chips and salsa. read more

We were traveling from out of town and had been out sightseeing all day. We wanted to get either nachos or tacos. So we stopped here to eat, our waiter was rude. The daiquiri was watered down salsa had no flavor and everything needed to have salt. We asked for flour tortillas butter and the waiter was shocked we even asked for that stated no one had ever asked for that. Once we received the bill we were charged .99 for a bowl of butter. The location is easy to get into, we took our children and the service was friendly and super fast, which is great with kids. The kids had chicken tenders and fries. The tenders were pressed chicken, which I think is gross, but kids don't care. Being a fish taco girl, I tried them out. I asked for one fried and one grilled. The fried one was tasty, but almost like a fish stick... And the grilled was tasty. I don't like mine minced up, and it was slightly minced into bite size pieces, but again I say it was very tasty. Served with sour cream on the side and diced tomatoes instead of salsa. Wasn't the best fish taco, but it was fine for a quick meal. The flan... It was great! Not what I expected, it was black beans loosely laid in a tortilla covered in burrito sauce, cheese (not listed on the menu, lettuce, tomato, guacamole, and sour cream( also not listed). I don't eat cheese or sour cream so that was a huge disappointment. The chips are over cooked and the salsa is loaded with black pepper, that is the only flavor it has. We were trying to kill some time before kids dentist appointment. It looks like a nice place seemed the only had two people working and even might have been the owners. The man we had came to the table for the drinks then came back to take our order. Lunch menu the gf got the L15 which was the fajitas. It came out not sounding like fajitas for one was asked no tomatoes she is allergic, but couldn't eat her meal because they added them to it me and my 13 yr old daughter had the L3 the meat was very bland and I asked for soft taco didn't get that either. My youngest got a burger and fries we had to go find ketchup for her because our server didn't come back yet he was at every other table even walked past us twice and even helped the table behind us. They only had 4 tables. When he finally came back to check on us we were ready to go I paid the $47 check and we left. We will not be returning that is for sure. read more

Super disappointed with this place! Went for a friend's birthday celebration and everything just sucked- plain and simple. First, birthday boy had to ask THREE times for his beer, even having to get up to ask. The first beer was a warm one in a can (not a cold glass like he had emphasized). The second beer wasn't even the beer he asked. Second, our quest dip came out so cold, it was like picking up a glob with the chip. The salsa is also super bland. Third, it took soooo long for our food to come out (even an upset couple sitting besides us left before ordering their food) and when it did, the steak and veggies in the fajita was so charred, everything looked black. And the steak in my quesadilla was also severely charred! When we told the manager our issue (us not even expecting to get a discount or whatever- just to let them know for future reference) the manager had the nerve to say "well next time, tell us so we won't make the plate so hot", as if this is how people normally want their fajitas to come out? Burnt?? And just to prove to her it's not just the fajita, I told her the steak inside of my quesadilla was definitely over cooked and black. She didn't seem to care at all about our satisfaction and wouldn't acknowledge anything wrong with our food. Pretty much our whole dinner was ruined and was a horrible experience. My college friends and I decided to eat here with a friend from high school after the school's band concert. We had six people all together so they sat us in the back. We were all having a good time while we were ordering our drinks and eating our complimentary chips and salsa. Then our server came and asked us for our orders. Three of us ordered and the other three did not. One of my friends who did not order asked if we could all get some more salsa for our chips because we were running low, and our server said, "No! You cannot get extra chips and salsa because you are not paying for anything, so no extra for you!" and rudely ran off. We were all confused as to why our server basaically yelled at her because it was just a simple question. We weren't even being rude or disruptive. So our server came back with our food, slamming our plates onto the table and throwing my flour tortillas across the table. Because some of our friends couldn't afford anything tonight, we all shared what we had together and tried to make the best of the situation. Then when we were all done and ready to pay, he asked us who all was separate or together for the tickets, and we all said separate. He then went on to explain that because we had "ordered" extra chips and salsa (which no one ordered chips and salsa in the first place and we never recieved any extra after that) that the people who did not order anything in the first place had to pay $2 each because "they did not pay for anything so they pay for this- it's not what I said- the manager said this- I'm only the server- it's policy." We all looked at each other utterly confused as to the fact that we had to pay for the COMPLIMENTARY chips and salsa that NO ONE ordered in the first place. In the end, my friends and I who actually ordered food had to pay an extra $2 each ($6 altogether) because our other friends didn't have any money on them- hence the reason why they didn't order anything to begin with!! Being LOYAL El Rancho clients, we already knew what we would order having, no second thought about the possibilities to come. Being my birthday, I ordered a cocktail and the nachos, quick and easy for staff, my husband got an iced-tea and burritos, again, very easy. We also enjoy the cheese dip, so placed an order to enjoy while we waited for food. BOY, was THAT a rip-off! Within minutes the young man had the drinks on the table, the chips were there immediately and of course, he cheese sauce came out pretty quick. We started talking had 2, maybe 3 chips and here comes the food. We're thinking wow, that was quick and it looked appetizing, full plates dressed well. I had tried to have Mexican a few nights before and was totally disappointed at that location, so this looked awesome, I was so excited... As soon as the food was placed on the table and he walked away, they music went off. The next thing I know, my husband is half way thru hi first burrito, I am a quarter of the way thru my nachos and this woman is on the other side of the bar saying "did she pay her bill, did she pay her bill, did she pay her bill?" I finally answered her with "No I haven't even received the bill for this $10 meal that I haven't even been able to eat half of " They wouldn't let me order another drink so I could finish the food, they were pushing us out the door--- I HAVE NEVER FELT SO DISRESPECTED AND UNWELCOME!!! We went to that exit specifically to check out what type of restaurants were available since it is such a highly recommended exit for traveling and were SO disappointed! We left and were going back home to ALABAMA, NOT just right around the corner and after driving at least 10 or 15 minutes passed exit I think 65 with a clock sign reading 10:21.
