We use to dine here often then went back once in 2021. Since Covid noticed food tasted different maybe there was a change in the cooks. Did not enjoy our entrees. CS same. We would like to return but don't want the disappointment. I was really hoping this would be our go to Mexican restaurant in Stevens Co. If and when my friends from OOS for a limited visit I would like to take them out but they always want me to prepare some of their favorite dishes I make. This is my favorite restaurant in town. The staff is always very friendly and they go the extra mile to provide their customers with a memorable and satisfying experience. The food is great...I'm addicted to their Tamales. On my parent's Anniversary, they went the extra mile to make their dining experience special. After visiting just once, they remembered me and welcomed me like family. The atmosphere is clean, light, and bright. This place harkens back to a time when providing good customer service was important and paramount to the operation of a successful business. This place was horrible! The chils tasted like soap they took forever to get our order to us . They got a majority of the order wrong. In my friends nachos he only got 7 chips and they were all soggy, they mixed up chicken and beef on a lot of things. Bean burrito was cold. This place is awesome. Chewelah is lucky to have such a great Mexican place in town. I like the Chile Relleno, it's not too spicy. The service is great and the Original Margarita is never ending. Cute little place. Clean and tidy. Our waitress was attentive and did a good job, bringing us Chios and salsa. I was surprised that beverages were bottled instead of fountain, but that was ok. My husband and I ordered the chicken enchiladas. They were tasty and hot and we didn't wait long. Not bad prices and we left with happy bellys. We will be back! read more

I really love Mexican food and I like the people who run this restaurant. So, I am trying not to be too harsh. The food is okay Mexican food. Only okay. Good Mexican food should have spicy (HOT) complexity, fresh ingredients perhaps a little oily and tortillas if not made on site should at least be fresh not from the box. I think all the Mexican restaurants in our area are cooking bland, tasteless Mexican food because that is what they believe the gringos want to eat. Sadly, they could be correct. Couldn't believe how awful the food was. We each had the "avocado tostada". The tortilla, which should have been crisp enough to be lifted and eaten with your hand, was soggy and virtually unrecognizable. Further the chicken was of your basic boiled variety, devoid of any seasoning. Stunningly tasteless. The rice was similarly without seasoning. It was only made edible by copious spoonsful of the salsa, which was, surprisingly, quite good. I don't even want to address the beans which were most closely related to brown, tasteless library paste. In short, it was an overall awful experience. To make it worse, the server (on September 10 at noon) was entirely too friendly with the female customers. I did NOT appreciate the pats on the shoulder and back rubs. Someone should tell him that such behavior is no longer even remotely acceptable. read more

Went here last night In the past this has always been an excellent restraunt. When ever I come up to visit we always go there. Last night was not the case. The waitress was very drunk when we arrived, and if we couldn't tell she said 3 or 4 times. "Fuck I'm fucked up" plus witnessed her taking more shots. She was partying with 2 other customers there. Didn't even realize she worked there until she brought us our water. Through out our visit. She was backing her ass up to them being loud repeatedly saying fuck. She was more concerned with getting laid then working. The two men started discussing her in Spanish she became irritable asking em what the fuck they were saying. They were discussing how loose she was. The Mexican food was great, my aunts food which was a hamburger was literally raw in the middle. This is behavior that Belongs at a bar not a family restraunt. Sad to say that was our last visit. I rather get diarrhea from taco bell then listen to a dumb drunk girl. OMG this place is absolutely awesome. At most Mexican restaurants I generally take half my meal home for lunch the next day but not here because it was so good. I ate every generous bite of my meal and then had flan and I needed a wheelbarrow to get me out of there. The hubs basically inhaled his meal!! This place is small, OLD and dingy and NOT well kept, a bit run down. The food was TERRIBLE!! I wish I would of just gone home and ate a bowl of oatmeal. They have NO IDEA WHAT MEXICAN FOOD IS. Their salsa is HORRIBLE!! "TONS" of chili powder and VERY FEW (crumbs) onions and NO tomatoes. If you don't mind watered down tomato sauce with tons of chili powder, then this is for you. I ordered the steak burrito and there was nothing but rice (for filler) and about 10 very small fatty thin pieces of steak. I picked through the burrito to get what little steak there was. I went home hungry and was out about $35 (for 2). They have NO IDEA what true Mexican food is..... I'm really shocked at all of the 5 star reviews. Our party of six rated the El Ranchito a solid four. I had steak fajitas which was tasty and not swimming in oil like some places. Wife had an enchilada which she couldn't finish. The sauce was a smokey peanut flavor- a little sweet but yummy and unique. We all agreed that it could have been hotter/spicier. Next time we'll let them know. The chips were served hot and the salsa was just spicy enough. Service was friendly and helpful and the kitchen got the food out fast. Best restaurant I have ever been to hands down. My family and I went there for the very first time today and had a blast. Both of our servers were hilarious and fun to chat with. By the end of dinner we felt like long lost family members. And that is just the customer service, the food was amazing too. I had the Rancho Steak. Oh. My. Gosh. It practically melted in my mouth and the serving size was huge. With this place you definitely get what you pay for! VERY SMALL TACO SALADS people wanting to help as soon as we walked in the door. We both ordered taco salads. When they brought them to the table my first thought was this was something they wanted us to sample but it was our meals. The salads were smaller then a side salad you would get when ordering a steak at outback. ( extremely small ) they couldn't of had more then 75 cents invested in this salad.
