    That's one massive burrito.

Who knew you would be able to find authentic Mexican food in a town like this? I mean, for real, who knew? This was my first visit to this area, but I took a cue from the others that had visited here before when it came to where to eat a sit down meal at. I love me some good Mexican food and try to partake in it as often as I can. So when I heard that there was something other than a Taco Bell in town, I was down. Pulling up to this place you think that this must be some type of joke as you are pulling up to a run of the mill strip mall. But once you walk inside it's like you are transported to a mercado. They really did their thing in here to transform it to make it look like you were in a Mexican area. Be sure to look at the specials as you walk in. I assume they change frequently, but when we were there they had a great special on margarita pictures. Can't pass that up. Take your time looking over the menu and don't feel bad about it. You want to make sure that you get exactly what you want and not settle for just anything on the menu. I can tell you that I looked at every item on the menu before deciding on the Burrito Lleno. A tortilla as big as a car tire is filled with rice, beans, lettuce, sour cream, and either shredded chicken or ground beef (I went with the ground beef). Then they top this with a red sauce and cheese. When this thing showed up I actually said, "I won't be able to finish this." But I did, and I was proud of it. It took some time, but that thing went down like nobody's business. I mean look at that picture of it. It's really an amazing feat for me to devour that thing. But maybe the margaritas helped? There are few places that can nail Mexican cuisine, and I am glad that this place did just that.

Nice place with a good menu. We had fajitas and a single order was plenty for both of us. Our friends had guacamole made table side and said it was great!

I wasn't super hungry so we got chips and salsa and guacamole to share and my friend got the chicken fajita. The salsa comes with two different salsa options, both were a bit spicy. The guacamole was classic and came out with a cute serving spoon. They had lots of food options but it's a bit more expensive than most Mexican spots in the city. I think my friend was a little disappointed that there was an up charge to add vegetables to her fajita and the portion wasn't as big as she thought it might for a $20 plate, but it tasted good. Super nice service and cute on the inside. They have a back patio that's very big and heated. Street parking.

We chose inside and although they have a couple tables out front, I realized they have a super cute patio out back. Our server, Obed, was friendly and explained everything we needed to know as well as answering all the questions! He was great! I had eaten a big lunch, so I ordered a couple of sides, Poblano Rajas and Half-Smashed Black Beans no cotija. For the table, my daughter's ordered the Classic Queso, and Chips & Salsa Two-Ways. The Queso was good but those salsas? They were really great. The red was smokey, which I love and not a lot of places do, and the green was a spicy pineapple, I think, it was so good! There was a Handmade Limeade ordered and it was so refreshing! I enjoyed the sides I ordered; I tasted the Al Pastor Empanadas, delicious and more so with that green salsa - sweet and spicy! Great spot I am glad we tried. Would love to return for a pitcher of margaritas when I am not driving!

I lived here in the late 90s and remember when it was on the corner of Clay Street, and I was drugged in by a couple of friends from high school, saying that they had the best food, I'm such a picky eater, and I didn't think I would be able to find anything at a place called chuckwagon, that I'd be willing to eat... oh, but I was wrong! They have something for every pallet and the food is all amazing! When I move back 14 years ago and saw it was no longer on the corner of Clay Street in 159, I literally felt a pain in my heart and I lived here for over a year before I mentioned to someone else how I was upset that Bert's was no longer around and how I couldn't believe it shut down, just to find out it hadn't, they had just moved a main street!! I was there with him 48 hours and oh my goodness how I had missed the awesome that is the Chuckwagon! Whenever I am asked what we should do for dinner by people who are in town visiting and they can't make up their mind on what cuisine they want, I tell him we're going to Bert's Chuckwagon, watch them, wrinkled their nose, tell them too late. I've made up my mind and that's where we're taking them and I get them there and I watch their eyes widen, as they try the food! Bert's is the best open secret Collinsville has to offer and if ever you find yourself, not sure where you wanna eat or have guests in town who can't decide between Italian/Mexican/chinese or just a good old burger, make the executive decision and tell them you're taking them to Bert's. Make sure that you emphasize the chuckwagon, watch their faces as they come to terms with what you just said and try and talk you out of it, but stay firm, stay quiet about what they're getting ready to walk into, and take them to Bert's!

We are always greeted by someone quickly and service is always outstanding! I'm obsessed with their super tacos but that's because I prefer a flour Shell. If you like a corn shell better stick with the regular size. I didn't get one this trip but their mini pulled pork sandwiches are also a great choice! Prices are reasonable and whatever they do to their soda it's the perfect mix With the "sonic" ice!
