Not sure what happened but I came back and was quite disappointed. The drinks were still very good though. Service was wonderful, so I hate writting this. My fajitas had zero flavor, the shrimp was not cleaned. The enchiladas de mole, had way too much chocolate flavor to them. Sadly I will not be returning.

Complementary chips and salsa, two à la cart Steak Tacos, Grilled Jalapeño Peppers, and a Shrimp Taco Dinner with Beans and Rice.

We had a wonderful dinner at El Puente on Main Street in Saint Charles, Illinois. This is a very authentic Mexican restaurant from the decor to the delicious meals. The service was excellent. When inquiring about seafood options our waitress suggested a Shrimp Taco Dinner, a special order dinner which was not on the menu. It was very good. We also enjoyed complementary chips and salsa, Steak Tacos, and Grilled Jalapeños, which were also very good. The meal arrived surprisingly fast and when we were done eating, our dishes were promptly removed by a very polite worker. We did not feel rushed, and we were able to enjoy our dining experience . This is a great place for authentic Mexican meals.

Had this place bookmarked to try and finally tried it this weekend. It was alright. I thought it would be more authentic, but it kind of reminded me of Mexican food that would be ordered at a non-Mexican restaurant. I ordered the taco salad with chicken. It came out looking more like a chef salad. The shredded chicken was all buried at the bottom with huge chunks of vegetables piled on top. The chunks weren''t really cut up, just kind of thrown on top. Taco shell was really greasy. J ordered he chicken enchilada and chicken taco w/ rice and beans. He said the beans were really good and most likely homemade and also liked the mexican cheese. Chips were good and the spicy salsa was pretty good. The place was packed for a Friday night, so the service was a bit flustered and scattered. We met a friend who came later and was catching up on his beers when he arrived. Our server seemed a bit annoyed that he kept reordering. When I'm dining out, I don't like feeling rushed and having my bill brought to be before I'm done or anyone in my party is done and I don't like that feeling like they want us to get the heck out. Not a place for lingering around or for an amazing taco salad. I think I've had better at sports bars. Not the worst, but won't be jumping back anytime soon.

That was on me, but still, the drink itself was solid. For my meal, I got the spicy shrimp appetizer, and we also shared guacamole and chips--probably the best guac I've had yet! The chips were light and airy, which I really appreciated. Our friends got the fish tacos with a side of rice and beans--also very fresh and flavorful. The tuna tacos were great too. Our waiter was really nice and had no issue splitting the checks for us. The inside is nicely decorated, and the wall of tequila adds a fun touch. The outdoor seating felt a bit cramped though--where we sat, it seemed like we were super close to other tables, and it was a little tight for the waitstaff to move around. Overall, a really good experience! They weren't kidding when they said spicy shrimp--it was definitely spicy, but in the best way. The breading and flavor were on point.

My boyfriend had a variety of tacos (fish, shrimp, and ribeye steak) but the fish taco was his favorite. There were only 2-3 young men working the front of the house and they were hustling. They spoke very loud and clear (a good thing!) and stayed busy taking orders, cleaning tables, and checking on guests. Job well done to those hard workers. Inside is a bit tight. When we visited, a part of the restaurant was closed off for a party so seating was limited to the few tables up front. However, there are some tables outside and you're super close to St Mary's Park so you could always get your order to-go and picnic at the park.

The tacos were filling and tasted great. Same goes for the esquites. Service was good and prices are pretty fair too. Overall nothing big makes this place stand apart but fit the bill for a quiet, casual lunch.

Even though it is more upscale than your typical Mexican restaurant, the chips and salsa were still served on the house, which I appreciate. I really enjoyed the salsa, as it had a little heat and good texture. I got a regular margarita with my meal. While it could have used more salt around the rim, it was still good. The lime did not over power the tequila and it had the perfect amount of sweetness. For my meal I got 3 tacos with a side of their refried beans. I wanted to try their pork options, so I got two that were a Yucatan style and one al pastor. The Yucatan ones were fine but just not for me, as well as the beans, as they were too smokey. The al pastor taco saved my meal, as it was juicy and had so much flavor. Overall it was a fun atmosphere and nice dinner. We were seated outside around 7:30 PM, and the live music created a nice atmosphere. After being seated, our server brought chips and dip and took our drink orders. My children's drinks and my husband's drink arrived fairly quickly, but I waited quite a while for my drink. The server returned to take the adults' meal orders before my drink arrived, but did not ask for the children's orders and left the table. About an hour into our visit, we still had not received our food. When the children's meals finally arrived, one of the meals was not the cheeseburger that had been ordered. The server stated that a different kids' burger had been ordered and then took the food away. Shortly afterward, the adults' meals arrived. My parents, who joined us later, received their food soon after. While we appreciated being seated earlier than expected and enjoyed the outdoor atmosphere, the service was slow, there appeared to be confusion regarding the children's order, and the overall dining experience took much longer than anticipated. I ordered the 22 oz strawberry margarita and it was probably one of the best margs I've had. Came with strawberry slices in the drink and a tajin rim. Great deal for $10. I ended up getting three tacos traditional style: Birria, steak, and chorizo. The birria one was really good, just wish the tortilla was dipped in juice like some of the other birria tacos I've had. It was my first time having chorizo, and I would order it again. The steak taco was good, but nothing special.
