4 stars for Hacienda Real restaurant. This is like an Uncle Julio's style Mexican restaurant, tasty food but it is kind of pricey. The tacos were very tasty, I loved the house made hot sauce (spicy!) and the shrimp enchiladas were also tasty. They do give you free chips and salsa, but all the sides (rice/beans) are additional charges. The decor inside is beautiful and our waitress was very friendly. Overall, I'd recommend a visit here if you're looking for an Uncle Julio's/Tex-Mex style of experience. read more

We chose Hacienda Real to celebrate Mother's Day early, and unfortunately it turned into one of the worst experiences. This was my mother's first time visiting your Geneva restaurant, although she has enjoyed other Hacienda Real locations in the past. It was my first time dining at any Hacienda Real, and based on this experience, I'm not eager to return! The issues began with extremely poor service. We repeatedly had to chase down our server, Alejandro C, whenever we needed something. The food was also disappointing. The salsa served with the chips reminded me of chunky Tostitos wasn't good or authentic. The steak fajitas were very skimpy and had a super charred taste. For my son's chicken fingers the only dipping sauce available was ketchup? No other sauces. They made my mom's plate wrong three times to the point where I had to get up and go to the receptionist a young girl with glasses and a little black skirt on "helped" me. She confirmed our table number and said she will get a manager and to sit back down. We waited another 20 mins and no one showed but our waiter. At this point were so frustrated and just ready to go that my mom and I paid the $113 bill but did not leave a tip which is not like us at all, but the service was so poor and on the bottom of the receipt it said text the owner so that's what I did since no manager came to us in person. Hopefully I get a text back. Overall, it's a cute restaurant with nice decor, but the food and service just isn't it I did enjoy my strawberry mimosa and the guac was decent. read more

HR is gorgeous!! I had no idea that this place used to be a local bar, but the HR purchaser made it better! At night you are greeted with a low light atmosphere that is set for a girl's night or date night. The music is blasting, which is a complete downside, but the decor is excellent. My husband and I went on two occasions and the service is truly 3 stars. Both experiences shared the unusual lack of service from the wait staff and the bar. We chose to sit at a bar our first time and we waited 15-20 minutes before someone asked us our order. We then did a table experience and our waiter, Angela/Angie seemed so busy that she couldn't connect with us at the table. At one point she walked off as I was speaking to her because someone advised her that the manager called her name. Mind blown! She realized that I was a bit shocked that she walked away while I was talking and course corrected ‍. Service disaster! The food was mediocre. It was served warm, I assume this is because it was so busy. The flavor was good, but because it was served warm....and it was so busy, we didn't bother sending it back. My take on HR is that they have created a beautiful space, but the service is not top tier. The food is not nasty, but this would not be my first choice for Mexican cuisine. read more

Had dinner with family, my first time there. As my son called it "fancy mexican, not authentic-- and he was right! The restaurant is beautiful, the food presentation is unique with using fire lit rosemary sprigs, I tried to blow it out, and ash flew out too. Not necessary, but their portions are small, The chili rellenos, the poblano pepper was small and not traditional made, everything was indeed "fancy" but definitely not traditional Mexican. I won't return. Also, the server really didn't know the menu. Oh, I wasn't aware that reservations were required on a Friday at 4:00! We had a very nice lunch at Hacienda Real. It was kinda loud for the middle of the day but the is a personal thing. There was now handicap door. The service from the hostess to the server was fantastic very friendly and efficient. The chips and salsa we fantastic the chips were hot and salted which was nice. The pick 3 was very good but i ordered all 3 with onion added but didn't get it. The drinks were very good the mojito was very flavorful and pretty too. This was hands down the best Mexican food and experience I had ever had. We came in about 5:30 on a Friday to find they were booked for the night! But luckily there was plenty of room at the bar and it was full service! We started with some drinks, all of which were amazing, I got a margarita flight and my husband got a specialty cocktail! We then moved on to appetizers, we got the queso expecting your run of the mill Mexican restaurant queso and was surprised with something MUCH better. The flavor was amazing. I ordered the fajita chimichanga and my husband got a pork dish I now can't remmeber the name. Everything was easily a 10 out of 10. Food with a side of fraud. Before I ate here I said I would take pictures and leave a review after, good or bad, so here it is. Cons: - I paid for two checks and since we had a group of maybe 9 people there was a 20% gratuity added. Would have been nice to be told that up front but that's fine. What isn't fine is the restaurant adding another 20% on top, which is either fraud or at the very least really poor customer service. I assume this happened to every check at my table but we're still researching - I was told I'd have a call back in 30 minutes and it has now been 2 hours - I also messaged the owner but no return text yet - my next step is report this to my credit card company and possibly the Geneva police to deter this from happening to other people as I won't be eating here again - the server also had us repeat ourselves several times (what part of no meat is hard to understand?) and the beans and rice tasted weird - prices were higher than La Campana in Bloomingdale and portions were smaller Good: - the atmosphere was good - the restrooms were clean and nice - the food was decent except the rice and beans - the service was mostly fine except for the credit card fraud Neutral - spanish dance music is played while you eat I'd suggest not going here If you do, pay in cash If you go and don't pay in cash take a picture of your receipt and check your credit card statement later read more

We tried Hacienda for lunch today and will definitely return. The ambiance and service today was wonderful and we could actually tell that a lot of fresh quality ingredients were used. Very fresh and flavorful! The drinks are fantastic so we'd even come back for cocktails and appetizers. We had the guacamole trio, queso dip, mojacete and enchiladas de mole. We loved everything aside from the rice. The flavors of the molcajete were fantastic though I'd suggest larger bowls for those so the meat can marinade a bit more in all of that deliciousness! read more

A party of 4 with a 6 PM reservation, seating as scheduled. From the moment we walked in everything felt effortless. The service was attentive and exceptional (Angelica former chef turned server), without her being overbearing - every detail was handled with care and precision and the food??? Absolutely delicious. We had the Chicken Tinga Pescado Baja with rice, the Pulpo Asado, three meat fajitas and shrimp tacos. In addition, we had their signature Margaritas, beer and wine and ended with their fried ice cream. Each of our dishes were presented beautifully on wooden planks and packed with flavor, the chef's passion and skill was evident and the octopus - was so tender and tasty we talked about it all night. At one point they had a large party next to us from the bar, and it did get loud, but they dispersed quick enough. It's rare to find a place that delivers at this level of quality and consistency across all facets of a visit - from the ambiance to the service, and from the right speed (we were seated just short of three hours), to amazing flavors. The girls had so much fun, the drinks were great, and the best part was how they celebrated the birthday -- so thoughtful and festive. Overall the decor and atmosphere is so cool! You feel like you're transported to Cabo or Tulum when you're here! The chips and salsa are brought k the table and the service was overall good. We didn't order drinks due to dry January but we did get queso and entrees. The queso was a good size. We got the fajitas, chimichanga and vegan tacos. Wall items tasted good but the dishes did get cold very quickly. Overall, I think the food is good but more modern and reasonable for the type of restaurant. read more

First time here. The place itself is very nice. Nice place to go. The food was really good. My wife's fajitas were good not great. They tasted better the second day. The Ribeye however was on point. Very flavorful. The potatoes were decent. Rice decent. Beans just OK. But the star of the show was the guacamole. The toppings, the regular salsa, no big deal. But the pineapple salsa, and the watermelon salsa(seasonal), the hint of sweet, with guacamole it tasted refreshing. The waitress was nice and helpful. Definitely will go again. read more

We wrote in to the manager about an issue we had; and they never responded. I like to give the benefit of the doubt but ignoring our email is unprofessional. We had a 6:30 reservation, arrived at 6:20 and wasn't sat until 7. We asked for a manager to come to our 4-top table, and they never came. This is our second time at the restaurant and we would recommend it to others. They have a wonderful outside patio that I suggest adding a request for. Last night - there were plenty of empty tables - yet took a while to get seated outside. Possibly - not enough staff to cover it. Hopefully, they work out that kink soon. They also have a large bar outside - of which was not open either time we visited. Drink-wise - excellent. We got the Watermelon Margarita and Texas Margarita. Large portions - beautiful glassware. I've heard mixed things about Hacienda Real but was pleasantly surprised. Great food, great atmosphere, great service! We came for a weekday lunch so it wasn't busy at all. We were seated right away at a table away from everyone else which felt nice to have our own space. The chairs were super comfortable and all the decor was wonderful. For food, we started with the octopus ceviche which was delicious! For my meal I did a combination platter with a chicken enchilada and a chicken quesadilla. It also came with a side of rice and beans but I subbed the beans for vegetables. The enchilada was small but mighty. It ended up being pretty filling and full with flavor. The quesadilla was STUFFED! They definitely did not skimp on the chicken there. My friend ordered the molcajete which was quite a show. It comes in a big black pot and they bring it to the table on fire. Service was very friendly and attentive as well. My only complaint was that it was a pretty expensive lunch. Amazing!!!! I can't get over how great this restaurant is. Amazing alcoholic drinks. The complimentary salsa is actually spicy. The paella was my favorite. Fajitas are great as welll but the paella really blew me away. The ship ceviche was okay- we still ate it all but wish it was more sour. We came in on a Saturday night so they had entertainment. The interior and overall atmosphere are absolutely gorgeous -- it's a great spot visually and has strong date-night potential. Unfortunately, the food doesn't live up to the setting. Dishes arrived barely warm, closer to room temperature than hot. The rice sides tasted like they had been reheated -- almost as if they came from a plastic bag -- and lacked flavor entirely. For the price point, that's a tough miss. The drinks are creative and well-presented, but they're over priced. When you're spending a couple hundred dollars for a date night dinner and drinks, expectations are higher. I'm really disappointed in this place. It's a beautiful restaurant but my experience is never great. Tonight I went there with 2 friends I haven't seen in a while and as we were getting ready to order dessert, we were asked to leave because they needed our table. We had just finished eating our dinner and not even camping. The manager came over and said they needed our table for a large party. It really ruined our evening and killed the whole vibe for us. We told our waitress how turned off we were by this and another manager came by to apologize. He could have at least offered to take our unfinished drinks off the bill, but no such thing happened. Poor service, 3% surcharge on orders. When I asked what the 3% was for, the waitress said "I can take it off your bill". So they are just trying to milk an extra 3% out of every order for no reason provided. If you catch it, they will remove it. I would bet most folks don't notice it and just pay it. read more

I got carryout to try this place finally! Everytime I try to go there is a long wait and it's always busy! I got the chicken and steak fajitas! I have seen people complain on other reviews they don't cook the green peppers and that is correct. It was a bigger chunk of the green pepper but very good still! Our 1st time at this location. Visiting family and needed to find a nice place for lunch. At first I was a little skeptical as there were very few patrons in the restaurant, however that was unfounded. We both ordered an entree that we weren't familiar with and really enjoyed them immensely. But, first we were treated to maybe the best chips and salsa options I have ever tasted in a Mexican restaurant. Service was absolutely spot on, very attentive to us and friendly but not over done. Just OK. I arrived about 8:30 PM on Wednesday evening, they close at 10. It was just me, a table for one. It took a couple minutes to be seated, and then five or six minutes for someone to show up to take my order; they were not that busy. If you enjoy employees walking by you without any acknowledgment, this is the place for you. There were at least five or six servers that walked by me before the bartender finally came out and said he would be waiting on me. I ordered the classic chimichanga and it came with beans and rice as well as pico de gallo, guacamole, lettuce, and cheese sauce. A chimichanga is my go to when I'm trying a new place, and this one was average. When it arrived at my table I was warned that the plate was very hot and it certainly was! Note that they add a 3% restaurant surcharge to your check. When I asked about it the bartender told me that rather than raised the prices on their menu they charge the 3% surcharge. So be aware that whatever the menu price says it's going to be 3% higher. To me it felt like a sneaky way to charge higher prices without you knowing it when you place your order. I imagine they were going for a roasted salsa flavor, but to me it just had overtones of being burnt. The interior looks very nice and perhaps when they're busier services is better. read more
