I think Jalisco's is a great option in STC for a quick lunch or for that craving for traditional Mexican food you may get. I work in STC, and that craving hits me a couple times a year so I will stop in at Jalisco's. I think the ingredients are really fresh. I love their tostadas the most! They are also flexible at the counter with adding additional veggies to their basic taco, burrito or tostada dishes. The owner is friendly and always there. I even practice my Spanish with him when I visit. The only thing I have as a mild complaint is that I think a few of the food items are overpriced, especially the vegetarian items. 4.5 stars, great local stop. read more

My boyfriend and I came to St Charles to meet up with a friend. While waiting for her to get off work, we walked around and explored the river. We walked over it and found ourselves near some fancy places to eat but all looking out of our price range. Luckily we found this little taco joint- which was perfect cus I was craving some authentic tacos. They weren't too badly priced- I went with steak tacos (I thought) and the boyfriend got a pork burrito (he thought). There were several families inside but no one followed the mask rule. (The only man working was wearing one, but never heard him ask anyone to put on a mask. Including a group of adults who brought their 7 demon spawns. The kids were running around the restaurant which wasn't that big. The older kids wore no masks, but they kept covering their face with their shirts when ordering. But the parents didn't even cover their face while ordering! I was appalled. We ate outside at a fish joint to avoid all of the people. Finally got the food and surprised to find out whatever meat me and my boyfriend got, was the same thing. So either their pork and steak was the same thing or the only staff didn't understand us. Whatever kind of meat it was, it was dry and overcooked. No chips and salsa and the verde sauce wasn't that good. Prob won't come back. read more

As another reviewer mentioned, they have pork/chicken soft tacos with cilantro & onions for $1 on Sat/Sun/Mon! The torta is another of my favorite foods from this establishment ($3.90). It comes in a soft, fluffy, warm sub-style bread. A hefty size. Doesn't taste like cardboard. You can pick the meat, and the other fillings are beans, lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, and avocado slices. Tostadas are good too, toppings piled high with avocado pieces on top (~$2.90). Their small burrito is $2.90, but it's a lot of food. Gorditas are good as well. Tamale was okay. It was my first time trying an horchata and since I have a sweet tooth, the taste was such a pleasant surprise. A milky sweetness with some cinnamon. Definitely a dessert and treat for me, especially great on a hot summer day. UPDATE June '14 - I'm not sure if they have the $1 taco specials anymore because the menu board doesn't list it. Outstanding AlPastor sliced off a spit. Had lengua which was also wonderfully prepared, not chewy or fatty at all. Chips were fresh, salsa could have used a bit more heat. Spoke with the owners upon leaving about getting some more heat with our meal next time. Tip: Ask for the extra hot hot sauce.. They should not keep that a secret, hopefully they will ask future patrons if they want some extra kick. The salsa verde was spot on. read more

I love coming to this restaurant. The owner and staff are so friendly and helpful about choice items. This is a small business that is family ran which I love and support fully. The food is always amazingly good. They know how to season their stuff well. I love the atmosphere of this place, it really brings in that Hispanic vibe. The price for everything is very affordable compared to every other taco place. It is tucked into the strip mall which I think is the reason why many people don't know about it. But this should definitely be one of the best quick bites around the area. I would definitely recommend this to everyone I know. This is the only place I want my tortas, tacos, gorditas, and tamales from. Also if you have a party coming up and want the food to be the highlight of the night , you can come in and ask the manager about prices and food amounts. They can happily help you feed your dozens of guest with their delicious tacos and tamales. (They do not go to the party and serve, it is trays of meat with tortillas, Chile, onions, cellantro, and everything you ask for). I've used this multiple times and the party guest love it. I like to see the silver lining in my consumer experiences... if you doubt this check my other reviews. However, my girlfriend and my experience at the restaurant had none to be found... the first red flag was the waiters inability to understand our order... we literally had to point to the menu board... my girlfriend ordered a Coke, not at all unusual... a bottle was brought to the table... she tasted it and immediately, suggested I try it... it was totally flat... she takes it up to the counter... the man takes it from her hand, swirls it around... and twice, tells her loudly, "no, it's fine"... but it gets better... keep in mind, we both ordered our choice of platters. Our selections were different... when the, "food" comes... a single platter is brought. When, my girlfriend questions, where my order was... the best I can discribe, the waiter looked confused... so eventually a second platter arrives... much to my surprise... it is a duplicate of her order... problem is, my order was completely different. At this point, we had, had enough. We ate quickly... the food was passable at best. This was on a Sunday, so maybe not regularly staffed. A terrible experience and I feel I am being kind... I cannot recommend this spot to anyone, not even my worst enemy. And would never return. Taco Bell looks attractive as an alternative... read more

I've gone to several "authentic Mexican food" places, and I swear, this place is the BEST! I got a 3 taco meal, and I got a chicken taco, a beef taco, and a pork taco. I swear, I at the chicken one first and thought it was the best thing I've ever tasted. Then I ate the beef, and then the shredded pork - and each one was better than the one before! Just fantastic! Jalisco Tacos was my savior in a day and age when STC had no authentic Mexican restaurants, and before I began working in Aurora, the mecca of all cuisine de Mexicana. I really loved Jalisco at first but we've fizzled out somewhat. Their food is still good but not the best I've had. The prices are a-ok with me though, I ordered a side of rice, guacamole, and a large horchata for like $6. Sweet. Their guac is prob the highlight of their existence (at least to me), traditional, fresh and delicious with nice size chunks of avocado in it. Located next to my bf's salon so it's great to stop in for a bite when I'm waiting around for him to finish up. It is always very clean and the service is courteous and quick. Also, they have a nice flat screen for watching telenovelas which I don't understand. I don't worship Jalisco like I used to, but I dig it for a quick bite. read more

This is a perfectly nice place tucked away next to the fish market and a few other shops just north of downtown St. Charles. The serving sizes are nice and large and reasonably priced. The food is good, but akin to what you'd find at other Mexican restaurants all around this area. I think you could be blindfolded and taste samples from this place and a few others and struggle to tell the difference. So it's definitely good, but definitely not unique. In all, if you're looking for a hearty plate of good Mexican food, Jalisco Tacos is definitely worth your money. It's not likely to stand out in your memory, but I doubt you'd have any noteworthy complaints, either. read more

Was so excited to have found this place, tucked into a little strip mall, and saw other reviews, but was completely disappointed. Stopped in mid day, there were no other customers, so you would think the food would taste super fresh ... but .... The place is clean, and the staff was nice enough. But the steak tacos I ordered were NOT good: no seasoning, poor texture *(like they had been reheated) and one of the taco's "tomato". was literally just the top of the tomato (where the stem is) Also, I requested cilantro, and it was not put on. (not sure if I was charged for that, as I never got a bill, just a total) The beans & rice tasted as though they had been microwaved, also no seasoning or flavor. The only decent part was the french fries I ordered for my child. Very disappointed, not sure if this was just a one off, but I wouldn't waste my money again (bill came to $17) won't go there again. They were passable, but under-seasoned and way more peppers and onions than shrimp. I also tried their tamale. It too, was okay, but far from the best I have ever had.
