My GF has tried this place in the past, so we gave it a go. Being of the culture, I normally go into any Mexican restaurant with an open mind. We were given chips with mild salsa and queso. The queso was edible, however, the salsa tasted like tomato paste, which is not how good salsa should taste. I ordered 3 fried tacos with ground beef. Since the salsa wasn't flavorful, I opted to use the queso in place. The fried tacos were made from corn instead flour, so I wasn't pleased with the results and should've inquired before ordering. We had an early dinner on a Saturday and had great service. This was not because they were slow. There was a party of 20 and multiple other groups. We were seated quickly and greeted immediately. We received chips, salsa and white queso. We were asked if we wanted hot sauce and we confirmed yes. The hot sauce IS hot. Our server said it had habaneros in it. Our entrees were served very quickly and arrived hot. We will definitely be coming back. read more

We arrived for lunch at Noon on Memorial Day. First impression- there's been a number of bars and restaurants in this space. El Potro did very little in respect to changing the decor from the last place that failed. Pretty sure its the same carpet. Hoping the experience would be better than the decor. My hopes were dashed on the rocks of mediocrity. Two servers and a manager working about 5-6 tables so there was no reason for service to be slow, but it was. It took almost five minutes just to get chips to the table. Speaking of chips, someone had dumped their chips on the floor which we walked over to get to our table. Took them about five more minutes to clean it up. Chips were light and fresh, and they did have free espinocha dip which was a nice touch. Salsa was nothing to write home about - pretty sure it came out of a big Sysco container. According to the Yankees game on the wall behind me it was 2 1/2 innings & 3 runs from order to arrival. Apparently the kitchen is in no hurry to serve customers either. Wife ordered the taco salad. It was huge so if you like a big flour bowl filled with a below average taco salad this might be the place for you. My son had a chimi and it was okay. I had the tacos el carbon and they were the best thing about the whole lunch (surprise cheese dip was a close 2nd). We finished and once again it took much too long to bring the check and then tab us out. There's too many options for Mexican in Lee's Summit so I don't see a return trip. read more

Went tonight with a group of friends... Party of 8. Music waa a bit loud. Atmosphere is kind of Mexican sports bar. Our waitress took great care of us. Some had been to this small chain before... This location has only been up and running a little while. Food came out hot and nicely prepared. The salsa was mild and generic. The chips were thin and ok but not warmed. The cheese sauce was not spicy but had a nice flavor. Extra cheese sauce is $2.50 and that is overpriced. My wife got extra to put on her tacos and it was in a small saucer instead of the small bowl on the table. The borracho beans were points with some seasoning...ok but nothing special. My shrimp enchiladas were excellent and the shrimp perfectly prepared...the sliced avocado on top was also perfect. The fried tacos were filling but light on the meat. All in all a good experience and every one seemed happy with their choices. Those who had been there before were not fans of the gravy sauce or ranchero sauces so we didn't order those. The cheese sauce was generous and very good. We had a good evening and came away very satisfied. I'd like to come back and try some of the fruit churros when I'm not so full. They have a nice selection of desserts including flan, fried ice cream, churros, and sopapillas. It's always nice to have another choice of restaurants in town. read more

I finally found my favorite menu item but I had to ask many questions to get there. Not a fan of the salsa but I do like the cheese dip that's included along with the salsa and chips. I am a huge fan of fajitas and margaritas. I've had them everywhere. I just don't think either of these are good here. We shared one of their combo fajitas and the "chorizo" tasted and looked like Hillshire Farms. The steak and chicken were meh. First time here. For starters when we are seated we get chips, salsa and queso for free. That's awesome. 22oz beer on tap for $4.95. So on to the meal. I had the #10 combo. Shredded beef in an enchilada, burrito and fried taco. As of this writing I cannot rate the burrito. Too full to eat it. I added the cream cheese jalapeño sauce. If you like cream cheese this is worth it the taco was great. The enchilada was also very good with the white sauce. My wife had the combo #4 with ground beef enchilada, taco and cheese and onion enchilada. She had the red sauce which was very good not tomatoyy at all. Terrible! Sat on the patio and waited for over 20 minutes hoping to order food. Server was obviously overwhelmed and never even acknowledged our table. First & Last time here! Had chicken fajitas both of us. The chicken was dry & very bland! The tortillas were like a pita bread. Not good at all...had mostly onions and 3 strips of red peppers. I had a burrito and my husband got an enchilada. Very nice! Really liked our waiter, Erik. He was friendly, quick and answered my questions about the overhead music. The only good thing about this place is the free Queso and chips. The food is nowhere near to authentic Mexican food. It's crappy Americanized Mexican food. I have tried several dishes and with exclusion of the Steak Fajitas I found all to be tasty. There are some complaints about he salsa being bland, which is true because their main clientele is white so they are catering to the masses. And if you ask me it taste like any other Mexican restaurant's basic salsa. All you have to really do is ask for the hot green or the really hot habanero if you want something else. Been going here lately every Friday and they are always packed to the gills with customers, that should say something in itself. As I am writing this I'm inviting my sister tonight to come eat here. This is our go to for Mexican food. It's right around the corner. Monday's are $1 tacos and the place gets hoppin. They were so busy one Monday night during last summer that there was a 10 min wait just to get a pager. I highly recommend the Barbacoa Tacos with a side of Boracho Beans. read more

I've called several times and either the person says they have nothing (which I find hard to believe) or they tell me they don't know. I remember vey well waiting for over an hour to get our food. Their Queso cheese was good but that's all I have to say about the food here. The chips come with Free Espinaca Queso & they've always kept my beverage full. The food was served hot and the special Monday $0.99 tacos are a steal. The prices are reasonable and you get a lot of food for your money. They also open early on weekends and serve Mexican breakfast favorites! Our neighbor warned us NEVER to go there because as he said food was awful. Husband had to try it. Walked in 2 hostesses were looking down at their phones and didn't see us, literally 2' in front of them. Atmosphere awful. No personality from anyone including manager. It was dirty where they sat us. I cleaned up with a handi-wipe. Took about 5-7 minute to get chips and salsa. Cold bland chips, salsa OK-ish. Cheese dip OK-ish. Got food fairly quickly however there was only about 5 tables with customers. Food was a 3 out of 10. All other Mexican restaurants in Lee's Summit beat it by far. Including taco bell next door. My husband thought the shrimp was lacking flavor. The service was slow. I would compare this to a LaFuente or ElMaguey. My daughters kids meal (corn dog minis) were over cooked. I've only been here on Mondays for their 99 cent taco special. You really can't beat this special. You can get crunchy or house made soft tortillas with either shredded chicken or ground beef. The margaritas were the worst I've ever had (I didn't even finish mine) and I was shocked to learn that my enchiladas with tomatillo sauce had pork in it. When does tomatillo sauce ever have pork in it? I discovered this after sending back the okra enchiladas for having chicken in them (I'm a vegetarian). You would think ordering a dish without meat would prompt the server to warn me that the tomatillo sauce had pork in it, but it did not occur to her. Very disappointing. read more

The first time my parents and I went here, we were seated immediately without problems. However the service was slow to start with but in return, we got a complimentary cheese dip (free when you sit down). I will say that the portions are too much for one person. And going for the taco special on Mondays is so not worth it. There was hardly any meat and there was too much lettuce. I could almost compare it to a salad. I was dissatisfied with the attentiveness of our waitress. She only had 1 other table and we had to wait 20 minutes to just get another bowl of chips (we flagged down a different server to do that after she was preoccupied with something else). I will never recommend this restaurant to my friends. If this type of service continues (and I hope management reads this), you have just lost another patron. read more
