Decent enough Mexican restaurant that is somewhat hidden in plain sight located in a rather nondescript shopping plaza. The service was friendly enough and whike the menu did not stray far from the expected items, they did these beloved food items good. I went with one of their burritos and was overall happy with my order. read more

El Potrillo Mexican Restaurant - Mexican Near Me - Brandon, Mississippi

SLOW... Ordered online. They kept arguing trying to charge me extra for the extra pico I already paid for via their online website. They keep stating " was this for door Dash? " I had to tell them multiple times "no..it's for me " Then they took literally 48 minutes just to get a two taco order out. And in the end..they forgot my soft shells that were supposed to have come with my chicken fajitas. Nice fail El Potrillo. And the additional amount you're charged for ordering online for pickup = NO BUENO!!! read more

Steak and chicken happy plate is the way to go!! It was big enough to share! The chips and salsa are always a hit too! The service is super fast and the atmosphere is nice! read more

El Potrillo Mexican Restaurant - Happy Plate - Mexican Near Me - Brandon, Mississippi

I ordered food for my family and I which WAS NOT READY and I had to wait an additional 12 minutes for the food. It wasn't even started on until after I arrived at the restaurant. When I ordered a Cheese Dip along with Guacamole ($22.00) , they informed me that chips are extra! The little girl running the register was an absolute nightmare! She did not care about the order not being ready and she was very RUDE!!!! read more

I ate here with my family. This was our go to spot when they were open on Sunday but they had an ownership change about a year ago and are now open only Monday-Saturday. Food is still delicious and reasonably priced. I enjoyed it. I wish they were still open on Sunday's read more

Great food and super-friendly people! The atmosphere was great as well. My family and I will definitely be back.

Best Steak Fajitas in the Ark-La-Tex. A fun place to go. The owner is there working the place to make sure everything is the best it can be. Love the atmosphere. Their adult beverages never disappoint. We had to miss those on our most recent trip. They'll get the permits back. Give them a shot. read more

For what it is, cheap mexican, and cheap margaritas it is good. I'm very surprised by all the negative reviews.. We come here every time we visit my sister in law, and always have a great time and of course take advantage of the great deals on margs. I've also found it to be very kid friendly and my niece loves coming along after school. Love the cheese dip and salsa specifically, and the quesadilla never disappoints. read more

This location used to be so good but alas, not anymore. Flowood is still the bomb! I love the P5 Texana...:at Flowood. I got one at Brandon tonight and just gave a $20 meal to the raccoons that live in our woods. First of all, I'm glad I checked before I left with my to go because I live 40 minutes away and they forgot my onions and jalapeños. The young lady at the register said she could not tell if there were any so she opened a to go flatware set and handed me a spoon and asked be to "dig around" and check. No onions or jalapeños. She returned a few minutes later with an exceptionally heavy container. Just as I had expected, they added more cheese sauce and more cheese to the top to cover up where I had to dig through it. Many people would say, you can't have too much cheese, but I beg to differ. It was too much. The shrimp that they use at the Brandon location are bait shrimp. They have a strong taste that corrupted the entire dish, hence the raccoons got a feast and I went to a local restaurant here in my town, and paid for another P5. Get this dish at Flowood. Excellent flavor and nice sized shrimp that taste clean. My husband said we are done with this location. We've had too many meh meals there to keep wasting money. read more

The service, the drinks and chips + salsa were good but the shrimp enchiladas were gross tasting and the shredded chicken enchiladas seemed cold. read more

The service is quick and the food has good flavor. Usurally stop in about 2 to 3 times a month.

I would NOT recommend the Brandon restaurant. Go a few more miles to the one in Flowood. We ordered fajitas to go and while the meat was good, the beans and rice were a joke. Plus, we didn't get any tortillas. Had to ask for them separately. read more

El Potrillo Mexican Restaurant - The rice and beans for Chicken Fajitas for 2. - Mexican Near Me - Brandon, Mississippi

If I could give it zero stars. I would. Gross. Do yourself a favor. Do not come to this restaurant. It was the worst experience. Service was awful, food was equally bad. The atmosphere is so far from desirable. There are 2 different types of music playing simultaneously within the restaurant. I will NEVER come here again. Oh, and they were out of water, but charged us $3 for each drink. read more

Diarrhea and Stomach Cramps from lunch there today Extremely slow service. 15 minutes to order drinks, another 20 minutes to order food, 30 minutes to receive food. Was basically full from chips and salsa by the time we got food. What little we did eat caused diarrhea with severe stomach cramping. It may have been the refried beans. They were a grayish color, were an odd texture, and tasted disgusting. But it could've been the shredded chicken. Who knows. Anyone else experience the same please contact me. read more

Come on guys, fix your bug problem. Was inundated with flies the entire meal. Was also visited by some sort of wasp or dirt dauber. And this little guy came and visited my plate. Additionally, your beans were 'grey,' and chicken fajita meat was close to minced. read more

El Potrillo Mexican Restaurant - Had a friend come to dinner. - Mexican Near Me - Brandon, Mississippi

Hands down the best Mexican I have had near Downtown Brandon. Fast service is the key to a great Mexican restaurant and they have it. Food comes out hot and packed with flavor. Margaritas are a must when eating Mexican and theirs are top notch. My only complaint is that the last couple times we have gone in, the air conditioning must have been out because it was almost cooler outside than in the restaurant. read more

Just meh at best. Service slow but they were kinda busy so that I understand. The refried beans were gray and frankly nasty looking. Reminded me of chemo or something. We won't be back read more

This is my favorite close to home spot! I usually go for lunch or happy hour on my off days. I mainly go for the margaritas, but the food is very good. I'm transitioning to a pescatarian based diet so I definitely enjoy the shrimp fajitas but every now and them I give in to a beef craving. I go around once a week and do not see this changing anytime soon. read more

El Potrillo Mexican Restaurant - Tacos de Carne Asada and Margarita - Mexican Near Me - Brandon, Mississippi

Food is decent, but customer service is absolutely awful. I have never been to a place with such rude staff. I am not basing this off of one experience, I go here often because I work close by, and I have tried to give multiple chances but after today I will not be returning. read more

Why is this restaurant so poorly managed? Our server was s-l-o-w. And mistake prone. They served it so slow it was barely warm plus the food was fairly bland and they were small servings. Décor needs a refresh and the storage area above the dining room is visible and messy. Had a skimpy marguerita with so, so flavor. Ugh. Sorry, I like to leave favorable reviews, but be warned. read more

I ordered three orders that suppose to come with cheese. They send over a small container of cheese for three orders. And the order was cold when we received it. I called to get them it order corrected. They told me that I will have to purchase cheese. I will never order from this again Resturant! read more

El Potrillo Mexican Restaurant - Cheese for the nacho orders - Mexican Near Me - Brandon, Mississippi

I walked in ordered 2 tacos, and they expected me to pay for the salsa separately.. I've been eating here for years, like 15yrs, and never have I been charged for the salsa, a complimentary salsa ALWAYS comes FREE with ANY taco purchase. The front desk kids are trying to pull a scam last minute?! Unacceptable! I even said to them "you guys did NOT charge me just LAST WEEK for salsa when I bought my tacos. Buyer Beware, the attitude from the front desk kids can a not welcoming nor friendly either. Highly disappointed. No one on Earth charges for a small cup of taco sauce/salsa when they sell tacos. That would be like charging me for the glass I drink my free water out of! read more

This place nearly always has good service, and the food is pretty consistent. Smallish dining area, with several booths. As with nearly every Mexican restaurant, the TV's are strangely tuned in to a foreign channel, showing soccer or bobsledding (yes, bobsledding was on this entire visit). This type restaurant is the only business I've ever seen that seems to have TV's for their employee's enjoyment, rather than their customers. That's a minor gripe, as most every Mexican restaurant is this way. Comparitively speaking, this is a very nice, consistent Mexican restaurant. One of my favorites. After eating, there's a frozen custard place just a few steps away, in the same complex... makes for a nice dessert. read more

Weekend special Saturday and Sunday fajitas steak shrimp and chicken for two for 19.99. Beans and rice could use some help with season. In the mood for Mexican so we found El Potrillo Mexican Restaurant. We entered and could see that they were busy but the bar was empty. So we sat at the bar. We find out that the bartender is really a waiter that has 1/3 of the restaurant. Two other servers were on as well. The chips and salsa were ok. The wait staff were running around with their heads cut off. Just a crazy show. Also the restaurant had a smokey haze throughout. After leaving and getting back to the hotel, I could smell every meal on my cloths. The enchiladas suizas ok. Just ok ! No one really bothered us and at checkout no one asked how we enjoyed our meal. read more

The food is always great and the margaritas flow will. The staff is always speedy and courteous. Best place in Brandon to have Mexican

I've ordered take out a couple times now from here and both times it's been great. I get beef tacos and cheese dip with beef and cilantro. Also they are super fast! read more

This place has gone downhill over the past few years from the lack of attentive service, the laziness of letting the fire alarm chirp for days on end, to the ever increasing absence of spice and taste. We visited last week and the air wasn't working. It happens, but the service was spotty as usual. If you have to ask for the check, service sucks. I ordered the fajitas and they had no taste. Tasteless chicken like one of those rubber chicken toys. It was so blah I had to add salt. That didn't help. In fact the only thing this place seems good for is loud patrons, cheap booze and crappy service. Two thumbs down. Way down. All the way to the gutter. read more

Ordered a chicken enchilada with verde sauce and a chicken fajita taco with cilantro, cheese, and onions. They had karaoke on the patio. Service was iffy, he made me feel... uncomfortable.. I prefer to not be groped when I'm buying my own food, but the food was great and the salsa was good too. This is one of those unfortunate incidents that although the food was amazing, I'm not sure I would return. 100% due to service. read more

Had an awesome time at El Potrillo with family and friends the other night. We arrived just before close, so the staff was a little rushed to get us out, but that's nothing to get bent out of shape over. They were all still friendly and attentive. I had the Martinez Special, and it was delicious (chorizo mixed with chicken, rice, lettuce, and beans). I don't see the reason for the negative reviews outside of a few one-off bad experiences. From my perspective, this is everything you can expect from your local Mexican joint. The beer is cheap ($2) and there's always a good drink special going. If you're looking for reliable, tasty Mexican food: I'd stop by here. It's worth it. read more

Absolutely horrible customer service. I placed an order on waiter food came late and when it got here I noticed it was the completely wrong order no biggie right... I called the restaurant to let them know what happened which is no big deal crap happens just fix it. Well when I called the manager/half owner bluntly told me that it was not his problem that he couldn't help what the delivery driver picked up and there was nothing he could do. Basically told me oh well eat it or not! I haven't had very many encounters with bad customer service especially from the individual that was in charge of the establishment but this was by far the worst. I generally don't do reviews but I felt the need for this one. Will not be going back here nor ordering anything from here. read more

The food was horrible. I got the ground beef nachos and they were very disgusting. It tasted like straight up dog food and when I approached the waiter about the situation he acted like he didn't care. The manager came and asked what was wrong and I told him what was going on. He was very rude and told me if I ever get the nachos again to just not order the ground beef. He was very sarcastic and rude and I definitely will never come back here again. read more

The service was marginal, the spinach quesadillas were not edible, and the fried ice cream is not made properly either. The wait staff was very unconcerned about placing orders as our party came in. Please go to another restaurant if you're considering coming here. Food is almost flavorless and not worth the price at all. read more

Food was good but the service is absolutely HORRIBLE. Staff needs to get it together and better serve their customers!!

Good food at a decent price. Seating time was really quick, drinks were served in a timely manner and no issues with the order! Overall a pleasant experience and a good environment to sit down and talk with friends over a bowl of queso while we waited for our food! read more

Horrible customer service. Staff was extremely rude. Super long waits. Would not recommend.

Average Mexican food. There are better restaurants to choose from in the area. El Sombrero just down the road puts them to shame. I typically order a bean burrito and 9 times out of 10 they bring me beef. read more

Great quality food; fairly good service, and it is generally always packed with people, so that's usually a good indication. I would return to this restaurant. read more

This place is fine if you eat in but don't order out. If you do pickup or app order it always gets screwed up for me . They don't know how to make a taco correctly based on instructions from app that is directly from their menu. I've tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and order again think it was just an honest mistake but I've had this happen over and over again. Not sure how it's so hard to get a taco correct. If someone orders a taco with cilantro and onions make that. Not a fajita taco or a taco with nothing in it but the meat. Not sure how that's so hard. I've tried to support local restaurants through COVID but won't be ordering takeout or delivery from this one any time soon. Complained to manager and he blamed it on delivery service menu. I've used several different ones all have your menu and spoken with them about the orders. Someone at the restaurant is not reading out online or call in orders correctly. I had one person On phone argue with me that it wasn't on the menu which I confirmed it was eating in a few weeks later.. If you eat this restaurant, eat there. Don't do delivery or pickup. read more
