We come here every time we visit my sister in law, and always have a great time and of course take advantage of the great deals on margs. This location used to be so good but alas, not anymore. Flowood is still the bomb! I love the P5 Texana...:at Flowood. I got one at Brandon tonight and just gave a $20 meal to the raccoons that live in our woods. First of all, I'm glad I checked before I left with my to go because I live 40 minutes away and they forgot my onions and jalapeños. The young lady at the register said she could not tell if there were any so she opened a to go flatware set and handed me a spoon and asked be to "dig around" and check. No onions or jalapeños. She returned a few minutes later with an exceptionally heavy container. Just as I had expected, they added more cheese sauce and more cheese to the top to cover up where I had to dig through it. Many people would say, you can't have too much cheese, but I beg to differ. It was too much. The shrimp that they use at the Brandon location are bait shrimp. They have a strong taste that corrupted the entire dish, hence the raccoons got a feast and I went to a local restaurant here in my town, and paid for another P5. Get this dish at Flowood. Excellent flavor and nice sized shrimp that taste clean. My husband said we are done with this location. We've had too many meh meals there to keep wasting money. read more

Diarrhea and Stomach Cramps from lunch there today Extremely slow service. 15 minutes to order drinks, another 20 minutes to order food, 30 minutes to receive food. Was basically full from chips and salsa by the time we got food. What little we did eat caused diarrhea with severe stomach cramping. It may have been the refried beans. They were a grayish color, were an odd texture, and tasted disgusting. But it could've been the shredded chicken. Who knows. Anyone else experience the same please contact me. read more

Hands down the best Mexican I have had near Downtown Brandon. Fast service is the key to a great Mexican restaurant and they have it. Food comes out hot and packed with flavor. Margaritas are a must when eating Mexican and theirs are top notch. This is my favorite close to home spot! I usually go for lunch or happy hour on my off days. I mainly go for the margaritas, but the food is very good. The front desk kids are trying to pull a scam last minute?! Unacceptable! I even said to them "you guys did NOT charge me just LAST WEEK for salsa when I bought my tacos. This place nearly always has good service, and the food is pretty consistent. Smallish dining area, with several booths. As with nearly every Mexican restaurant, the TV's are strangely tuned in to a foreign channel, showing soccer or bobsledding (yes, bobsledding was on this entire visit). This type restaurant is the only business I've ever seen that seems to have TV's for their employee's enjoyment, rather than their customers. That's a minor gripe, as most every Mexican restaurant is this way. Comparitively speaking, this is a very nice, consistent Mexican restaurant. One of my favorites. In the mood for Mexican so we found El Potrillo Mexican Restaurant. We entered and could see that they were busy but the bar was empty. So we sat at the bar. We find out that the bartender is really a waiter that has 1/3 of the restaurant. Two other servers were on as well. The chips and salsa were ok. The wait staff were running around with their heads cut off. Just a crazy show. Also the restaurant had a smokey haze throughout. After leaving and getting back to the hotel, I could smell every meal on my cloths. The enchiladas suizas ok. Just ok ! No one really bothered us and at checkout no one asked how we enjoyed our meal. read more

This place has gone downhill over the past few years from the lack of attentive service, the laziness of letting the fire alarm chirp for days on end, to the ever increasing absence of spice and taste. We visited last week and the air wasn't working. It happens, but the service was spotty as usual. If you have to ask for the check, service sucks. I ordered the fajitas and they had no taste. Tasteless chicken like one of those rubber chicken toys. It was so blah I had to add salt. That didn't help. Had an awesome time at El Potrillo with family and friends the other night. We arrived just before close, so the staff was a little rushed to get us out, but that's nothing to get bent out of shape over. They were all still friendly and attentive. I had the Martinez Special, and it was delicious (chorizo mixed with chicken, rice, lettuce, and beans). I don't see the reason for the negative reviews outside of a few one-off bad experiences. From my perspective, this is everything you can expect from your local Mexican joint. The beer is cheap ($2) and there's always a good drink special going. Absolutely horrible customer service. I placed an order on waiter food came late and when it got here I noticed it was the completely wrong order no biggie right... I called the restaurant to let them know what happened which is no big deal crap happens just fix it. Well when I called the manager/half owner bluntly told me that it was not his problem that he couldn't help what the delivery driver picked up and there was nothing he could do. Basically told me oh well eat it or not! The food was horrible. I got the ground beef nachos and they were very disgusting. It tasted like straight up dog food and when I approached the waiter about the situation he acted like he didn't care. The manager came and asked what was wrong and I told him what was going on. This place is fine if you eat in but don't order out. If you do pickup or app order it always gets screwed up for me . They don't know how to make a taco correctly based on instructions from app that is directly from their menu. I've tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and order again think it was just an honest mistake but I've had this happen over and over again. Not sure how it's so hard to get a taco correct. If someone orders a taco with cilantro and onions make that. Not a fajita taco or a taco with nothing in it but the meat. Not sure how that's so hard. I've tried to support local restaurants through COVID but won't be ordering takeout or delivery from this one any time soon. Complained to manager and he blamed it on delivery service menu. I've used several different ones all have your menu and spoken with them about the orders. Someone at the restaurant is not reading out online or call in orders correctly. I had one person On phone argue with me that it wasn't on the menu which I confirmed it was eating in a few weeks later.. If you eat this restaurant, eat there. I had the enchiladas Suiza. They were ok, except nothing on my plate was hot enough (fire hot, not pepper hot). My BF on the other hand had beef enchiladas with red sauce. He ordered the meal, but got ala carte, so had to order a side of rice. After one bite he said "they aren't very good". I tasted them, and the red sauce is nothing but tomato sauce out of a can. Seriously. Absolutely the most horrible excuse for a Mexican red sauce I ever tasted. Luckily for us, we are just traveling through so won't be back. read more

if i could possibly give this place less than one star i would. i order the same thing every time i go here- the enchiladas suizas.. and tonight was no different. however, i ordered it to go via phone this time. i get there about 15-20 minutes after i placed the order and the young lady working the register told me that she wasn't able to make my order because they didn't know if i wanted 1 enchilada or 3..? the enchiladas suizas comes with 3 enchiladas, and i have never been asked that before. i had also ordered a small side of cheese dip. i pay, get my food, and leave. something told me when i got to the car to look at my food, and i'm glad i did because well for 1, there was no cheese dip... and 2, the food they had given me was not anywhere close to what i ordered or what i have always gotten. i walked back in and the young lady who had just handed me my food was in disbelief that i wasn't given the cheese dip. another older man that worked there happened to be standing there and offered to correct the problem, as well as correct the enchiladas. i had earlier pointed on the menu exactly what i was trying to order and they STILL got it wrong. i waited 5-10 minutes and the older man brought out the "corrected" order and said that it was exactly what i was trying to order... he was so nice, and i made the mistake of i trusting him. i got to the car and again looked at my food. i did have the cheese dip, but i sure as heck didn't get what i had ordered. needless to say, this place has continuously gone downhill and they cannot give you exactly what you ordered, even though that's exactly what's on the menu. this place shouldn't even be open. read more

My recent visit with this place was not what I'm use to. The the wait time was very slow on refills. Our waiter was hardly around to check up on us and to give us updates on our orders. My latest visit just did not feel like a family oriented culture that we all know of Mexican heritage, which is why I love to bring my family too. The food was great when we finally got it.
