This is an update on their menu. Thought I should share since prices and other things have changed . Food is still great though !

I like to get steak tacos and fries here. I take the meat, onion and cilantro off the corn tortilla and over my fries to make "taco fries" and it is delicious. I spread sour cream, cheese and hot sauce in top. DELICIOUS. I always get a pineapple jarrito (soda) to accompany my taco fries. #OffMenuHack

I came here with my family and I absolutely loveddd the food! The servers are attentive and very kind. I have ordered burritos from here before and they are always great. This time I went , I ordered something different- and greatly enjoyed that as well! The portions are great for the price and the outdoor seating for COVID is not bad at all. My only issue was with the wait for the appetizers and food.

Excellent place to get your Mexican food fix in Elizabeth. Great prices for the amount of food your receive and excellent service. I tried the Tacos al Pastor and Agua de Jamaica. Tacos are well cook and include pineapple! Yes please! and the aguas are fresh. You can also order fresh squeezed juices (orange, carrot, pineapple, etc) You can easily miss this place since the decor inside and outside it's not that much to notice in a busy street. But once you find it your will not want to miss it anymore. Only thing it's the street parking that you have to be careful with since there are meters and it's a busy street. Great place, awesome food and excellent service.

Fantastic Mexican food. Very casual and no-frills place but the food speaks for itself. The menu is substantial, and the prices are just right

Faced with the usual dinning dilemma (I just can't seem to figure out what I'm really in the mood for, ever), I decided to be my cousin's tag along since she was craving tacos. Wise decision on my part, she is, after all, a local of the area. This restaurant is really easy to miss. There's no fancy signage and the same goes for the decor inside. None is needed, however, as their tacos are great. Simplicity at its best. One order of tacos allows you to indulge on four little flour tacos. I split my order into two chicken and two chorizo and added cheese for two dollars. Together with diced onions and fresh cilanto, I squeezed some lime juice, added a dollop of (a similar to sour) cream, threw in their green hot sauce and devoured them. Major plus, the chorizo wasn't too greasy and the chicken was white meat. Another bonus, they offer squeezed OJ ($4 a pop). After three tacos I was starting to feel full but couldn't let a bite go to waste. Definitely willing to try to this place out again when in the area.

Nice brightly lit taqueria that serves the standard fare but also shrimp tacos. Worth a visit if the area.

Dined in once and ordered delivery and both times, the quality and flavor have been there. What's great about their delivery service is that it's FREE! So far, I haven't been able to stray from tacos al pastor but I can't imagine any of their tacos are bad. The meat is tender and the flavor is bursting. The fresh pineapple on top is the perfect addition. Not to mention for $8 you get 4 tacos and it's a lot of food! I'm always making two tacos out of one because of the generous helping. There's nothing better than a taco with fresh onions and cilantro EXCEPT for maybe adding a little pineapple. The guacamole on the other hand is a little pricey, $7.50, but it is GOOD. Unbelievably fresh with lots of cilantro, onion and tomato plus I added jalapeño. I'm not sure how they get the best avocados with the perfect texture and consistency but it's been flavorful and fresh every time. Very much worth the money. Not much of an ambiance when you dine in just your normal taco joint but now that I know they delivery, it will be a regular thing for me. I could eat at El Portal every day.

Delicious Mexican restaurant in downtown Elizabeth…read more... Started it off with some nachos But they were not my typical nachos, they were nacho chips buried in melted cheese... Different but still tasty. I had a strawberry margarita and they brought some condiments for our dinner to the table. I ordered the steak chimichangas. Now I'm accustomed to getting one large chimichanga, but here I was served three smaller chimichangas topped with sour cream again different but still very delicious. They were served with a side of rice and refried beans. My husband ordered the whole red snapper fish that was served with rice and a side salad. My husband always enjoys getting a whole fish and he liked this fish very much. Everything here was very authentic and very delicious. The staff was very welcoming and friendly, and their decorations were very fun and festive and we look forward to returning.

A waiter came by and took our orders. We got some carnitas and lengua tacos to start. The meat was very tender, and came with onions and cilantro on corn tortillas as expected. The tortillas were very good too, i was thinking they might have been freshly made. I ordered the steak chimichangas for an entree. It came with 3 well fried chimichangas, rice, beans, and salad. I wish the chimichanga had cheese in it along with the meat. But it didn't. Not my favorite, but OK.

Our server was very pleasant, but unfortunately didn't speak English at all so when my friend asked to pack up her food, they got rid of it instead. They gave back the charge receipt, but without the credit card and it took forever to get them back to the table. Overall, I liked it, but the end of our experience was not great. Quick update: my friend reached out to the manager because after throwing her away the offered to make her another but only sent her home with 2 ribs and the peppers without the chorizo that she didn't even touch our the veggies and plantains. We were stupid for not checking first for sure. She ate two of the three ribs so I don't even know where they got the second rib that they gave her. I'm assuming they remade them. The manager asked that she text instead because he didn't speak English and wanted to be able to use Google translate I'm bilingual so I understand the struggle, but not being able to speak to anyone including the manager in english is completely unacceptable, in my opinion. I really love this place and will always support local Businesses but after bringing in new patrons and having this experience I would not put my name on a recommendation for them again.

If you want unlimited sangria or mimosas, great music, and decent food, this is definitely your place. The DJs they bring in are always on point and really set the vibe. That being said, if you're going for top tier food or a lot of variety, this might not be it. Nothing I've tried has been bad, but nothing has really stood out as amazing either. One thing they do not play about is the drinks. Your mimosa or sangria will never be close to empty , the second your glass drops a little, someone is right there to top you off. Overall, it's a fun brunch spot if you're going for the energy, music, and bottomless drinks.

For drinks, we ordered the Don Chente and the Tour of Mexico, both were very good and perfect to start the night. My favorite dish by far was the BBQ rib bao buns. So good and definitely something you should try if you come here. The vibe gets better as the night goes on, and with live DJs on the weekends, it's an ideal spot for a birthday celebration or a night out. I'd definitely come back.
