My absolute favorite restaurant! I am so glad I stumbled upon this place a year ago. I have been back too many times to count! Omg, where do I start?! BEST food ever! Chips and salsa were AMAZING and super fresh. Between the two of us, we tried all of the tacos and they were soooooooo good. I had the En salada de la Casa and it was delicious with super fresh avocado. Seasoning for everything was spot on! Drinks were great, and service was top notch! Super friendly server and nice atmosphere. We went on July 4th when other places were closed and we were soooo happy this place was open. We will Definately be back again. Prices were good too. Stopped by here again before the all the craziness several weeks ago. Adrien has been my waiter several times and he is always the best, never can go wrong with any of his suggestions or anything on the menu. My go to now is one taco, one pupusas, and then half Torta al Pastor. I am slowly rotating thru all the tacos and pupusas - each are so filling, full of flavor. And then the half sandwich with fresh advocado and the juice and seasoning of the pork is the perfect amount. So nice to get a hot, fresh pupusa from a sit down place - no need to wait for a food truck or festival. The pork pastor torte was a standout. That bun was fresh, just the right amount of squishy, and the pastor pork had the right amount of char. Their quesadillas could feed two. The French fries are a fried russet potato, cut fresh into wedges - more fries should be served this way. All four plates were five stars. The steak chimichanga was more middle of the road - the rice felt a bit stale and it was heavy on the cheese which felt somewhere in between cheese whiz and nacho dip. Each time I've gone, El Pope never disappoints from the food to their service. The first time tried this place, I did take out and it was very quick. When I visited Richmond again, I came back to El Pope to dine in, and I ordered the pupusas revueltas (pork, beans, and cheese) and an order of the cheese pupusas. A hidden gem. Ever since this place opened it has been on my list to try. Once I heard they're whipping up authentic Latin cuisine - specifically pupusas - I knew I had to stop in. Unfortunately my first visit was during COVID-19, so I wasn't able to enjoy the ambiance and get a feel for what it is like to dine with the them. However, I could see they had a full bar & a board listed with specials. To my surprise, the menu is super affordable! I'm talking $2-12 range The team working at the restaurant is so nice and genuine. They recommended we try their best pupusa with pork & a steak torta, with a side of rice. Let me start off by saying the flavors were magical. The pupusa was cooked perfectly and the sauce compliments it so well. The torta is HUGE. I shared it and only ate half & was stuffed. The rice was also very tasty. The spicy sauces are legit hot - not for the weak. All in all, I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for some authentic Latin cuisine in Richmond. With tacos and popusas at 2.50 a pop and most entrees at no more than 12 dollars but an ambience and setting of a white table cloth restaurant, you'll find a classy dinner or a night out with your friends right here! Everything is homemade, from the complimentary tortilla chips to the salsa that accompanies them. With house sauces coming with anything that touches your table you'll be coming back again and again (if you like spicy, ask for the spicy sauce with your meal). Usually I don't do appetizers but when you're eating Peruvian you gotta order the fried yuca to share with the table and you're on the road to deliciousness. And of course what would a Latin restaurant be without a dedicated drink menu. With mixed drinks coming in at $5 dollars you might expect them to be mostly flavor. Not at El Pope! We had driven by El Pope so many times and had always exclaimed "OMG PUPUSAS" but finally we stopped to order some, and they did not disappoint. If you've never had a pupusa before, you're missing out. It's Salvadorian cuisine that is a thick griddle cake of corn stuffed with a variety of different things (my favorite is the bean / cheese / meat combo, but they're all good). We had the avocado shrimp rolls and the shrimp pupusas and wow they were so good! The jalapeño coleslaw was very tasty as well with the perfect amount of spice (not too much!). Not only is the menu very reasonably priced, the food is filling and seasoned with intention! We came for papusas, and they did not disappoint. Many options of: cheese, bean & cheese, chicken & bean, pork & bean, zucchini & cheese. All delicious and only $2.50 a piece. I ordered the pork torta, which I didn't even realize was a sandwich, but it was fantastic!! The bread they use is light but crispy and 100% yum. Found this place randomly and decided to give it a try and it was definitely the best decision. First off the staff was great. Our waiter was very helpful and so patient with the kids in our group. Well, here I am suffering from a classic case of ordering the wrong meal. I was here last night with a monthly Supper Club group. None of us had ever been there before and we were excited to give it a try. I do like the location on Main street and the interior is really nice and cozy. I was a bit shocked, though, that there was only one other occupied table. We started with a round of some appetizers. I got to try the calamari and bbq chicken wings. I really enjoyed the calamari and thought the wings were pretty good, but not great. For my entree, I ordered the Chicken Breast Lemonata which, unfortunately, was a huge miss. Everything about it sounded good, but it just wasn't executed well. The chicken was super dry and I didn't taste any of the lemon or dill flavors at all. The spinach was the best part, honestly. I got to try a bit of someone else's Shrimp and Crab sopapilla which was great. The beans were also a hit among everyone at the table. Another reason for 3 stars instead of 5? The service was a little awkward and left much to be desired. I'm willing to chalk it up to an off night and would give Latino Cuisine another try. So excited to have found this little gem! Latino Cuisine serves up fresh, Pan Latino Cuisine and it's pretty amazing! Went with a large group so was able to sample a variety of items from the menu. The calamari, which I am honestly not a big fan of, was actually really yummy! The mussels were super fresh and well seasoned in a tomato based sauce. The grilled Caesar salad (pictured) was well executed and had a great smoky flavor. For my entree I had the chicken sopopillas (pictured) with yucca fries. The chicken was pan seared which gave a nice crisp texture to the food. The sauce was a just the right amount of spice and the yucca fries were yummy. And it was excellent the next day reheated for lunch! One of my companions ordered the papusas which were a exceptional! Pretty grilled, full of flavor. I will definitely be returning soon for some more. Another person ordered the veggie version of the sopopillas that came with the beans as a side. These beans were life changing! Not refried mush, these beans were flavorful and amazing! So good in fact, that I ordered some to go to have with my leftovers! I've been dreaming of these beans ever since and can't wait to go back! Spent the morning at Texas Beach and we were the kind of hungry you get when you've walked a couple miles in the sunshine. Sweaty and hot,we needed take out (fast) and El Pope fit the bill. It was easy to order online and everything was wicked cheap. I tried the veggie pupusa and the pork pupusa. The taste was good - seasoned and flavorful. I wanted some more filling but the hot sauce and the Cole slaw rounded out the meal nicely. My friend got the gordita and it was loaded with chorizo and cheese. I heard good reviews of the food, so was excited to try their brunch. We get seated instantly as there are only 2 other tables there and look over the menu. Looks good and great prices! BUT We sat for 15 minutes without the waiter coming up to us to even to ask us for a water. We heard the family next to us complaining about their service and the waiters language around their kid, but we aren't ones to complain so we just took it with a grain of salt. After seeing the waiter watching TV and playing on his phone for a good 5 minutes, after already sitting there for 10 minutes, we decided to leave before ordering anything (not even a water!). As we were leaving, we told the waiter "Hey thanks, but were just gonna leave. " He responded "Oh I'm about to get to you. I'm almost about to get to you!" We said " it cool, we appreciate it, but we're just gonna find someplace else. " He said "wow thanks for wasting my FU*King time!" Like dude, you didn't even bring us a water or ask our order, how did we waste your time? You were playing on your phone and watching the game. Not an authentic pupuseria but food was decent, our order was cold and it took more than an hour to receive it, once i told them the food was cold the owner came out and disrespect me and my friends im salvadorean and i know how to pupusas are supposed to be and the owner was rude and kinda yell at us for telling him the food was cold, it was obvious his ego was hurt and it look like he was under the influence, over price as well only good part was the waiter he was great he is the only reason i gave 1 star, over all not recommended by a real Salvadorean and to the waiter please find a better place to work your skills are being wasted there!
