We stopped into El Apollo Guapo a week or so ago to try the food, it was pretty good! We had a chicken meal with rice and fries, a build your own bowl, and the plantains. The chicken was really delicious. None of the fried things were too greasy. The rice fell a little flat, it seemed slightly dried out- maybe just the day we visited. All in all, everything tasted great. Service was friendly. I also really enjoyed how allergens were very clearly marked on their online menu, including spaced to incline allergens on the order.
Always a special treat when we make our monthly run to Sam's. We love the chicken Tostadas and the Brussel Sprouts are prepared as well here as any of the fine restaurants in the area! Wish there was a location on the shoreline!
Wow, Bahn Mi taco was delicious. A nice kick from jalapeno but not overly hot! Would definitely get again...
One of my FAVORITE places while back in CT!! I got the dazed and confused, but subbed the sauce for sriracha aioli. It's a quick and easy take out place, but there was seating inside too. The food came out so fast! The staff brought out our bowls within 5 min of us ordering and sitting down.
This is my favorite quick service spot in Glastonbury. The food is always on point- I usually get one of the bowls with chicken, delicious rice, and toppings such as cojita cheese and pickled onions. Highly recommend!
Found it. I knew it was moving in Newington and now also in Glastonbury. Had a good quick eat-in lunch here today. Fond memories of the truck parked on Bartholomew Street at KnowGoodFood but those days are gone. Ordered the 1/4 chicken [dark] with plantains and roasted corn. The chicken was juicy and delicious as usual, the plantains were good [but was dreaming of tostones] and the corn was very sweet and filling. The lime aioli was super! The dining area is clean and spare; all the better to feed your face my dear. ps I hate the pop-up order forms that obliterate the menus online. Let me read it all before I make my decision. That's old age grumpiness but that is just me!
Omg! I can't wait to go back here again and have some more yummy food. The chicken is so flavorful and so are all of the sides. All of the sides are amazingly seasoned, I loved everything!! No complaints at all.
This review is probably biased because El Pollo Guapo is easily our favorite fast casual restaurant and I'm just leaving this review because of their new location in Glastonbury. But if you're in the area and you've never heard of this place...you're welcome. Everything here is fantastic. The staff are the greatest people you'll ever meet and treat you like family even if the only reason you know them is from coming into their restaurant once a week (just ask Tony). You definitely want to try the queso...it's actually real queso not like what you're used to eating from a jar or from another place that rhymes with Poe's. The chickpeas are also insane. And their chips?! There's magic dust on them. Well..it's actually Tajin seasoning but the first time I ever tried it was here and now I buy it to put on my eggs in the morning (life-changing). The rice bowls are also a home run. I recommend the Arroz Con Pollo because it comes with plantains and they're just perfect. The garlic lime aioli also adds a hit to your tastebuds that will keep you coming back for more. We also tried the churros here for the first time and now it's become a problem that I'm seeking help for. Don't go anywhere else in Glastonbury now that Guapo has opened its doors. You'll just be sad you didn't come here.
With a name like El Pollo Guapo, you should expect many chicken options. I did find a vegetarian option but was disappointed when I was going to try the rice only to see bacon in it!!! Be careful, check out your rice first! Give us a meat free rice option, please. **Update---I have been advised that their rice is vegan. I don't know what I was looking at, but it apparently was not bacon. They do not carry any pork products.
Never heard of this place before and it's a little farther down the strip of main shops, but the name holds true about their chicken. They make everything themselves, the chips are house fried and the queso is made fresh and seasoned deliciously. The guacomole is also very fresh and given in large portions make it okay to take huge scoops. The half chicken is big and easily will fill two people's stomachs, great tasting and very juicy. The potato wedges are thick and fried perfectly, comes with a great sauce too. Brussel sprouts have been appearing as side or appetizer everywhere, they hold up here and are worth picking if you're between different options. Will for sure be coming back, especially since it's down the road from the gym and one of the healthier options in the area.
The bowl looks good but once you start eating the rice is way too saturated and then it just tastes like a bowl of cole slaw and extremely over priced. I paid extra for white meat chicken and there were pieces of dark meat in there. The plantains and bottled sparkling water are good. If I go back I would not order a bowl again
Good to see more El Pollo Guapo's around Hartford. Food from this chain has become my comfort food. I like their Almost Legal bowl the most. I added plantains to it. The crispy brussel sprouts are good. I like the spicy taco slightly better than hola guapa, because it is a bit spicier. In general, their food is a bit salty for my taste.
Still tasty, little pricier I've come to this place a couple more times. The handsome chicken was good bites at decent prices. Now they are a little more expensive but the quality is still pretty good. The chicken fat potatoes need a bit more seasoning, the chickpeas need to be crispier, and the empanada chicken tasted old. Everything else was wonderful. There's some minor slips compared to my previous visits, but it's still really good food and a great to go option for the area. read more

My company ordered food from here for an event for more than 40 employees. I was so glad to try it. I had roasted chicken; yellow rice and various grilled veggies. I made a great taco with all the options. I loved their pickle onions; grilled Brussels sprouts; cabbage salad; and all 3 sauces. I will definitely try their location soon. I Ate everything on my plate. read more

I come here multiple times but after tonight I won't be back. The chicken in my bowl is all fatty, inedible pieces. Gross to look at, very unappetizing. I'm highly disappointed, as I truly loved this place. read more

This spot is the absolute bomb. I'd been dying to get here for many months and after three visits I'm pleased to share that this place great. The food is delicious. Lots of flavor, high-quality products and consistent. The service is quick and the folks that work there are nice. The nachos and arroz con pollo are some of my favorites. These days it's super hard to find a great place to eat, make sure to put this place on your "to go" list! read more

The food was fantastic, lots of options, all the ingredients were very fresh and vibrant. The staff was incredibly friendly, making changes to the menu was easy and no issue there. Serving sizes for the price was reasonable. Blown away by the tenderness of the chicken! All in all a great experience and plan on returning to try more items from the menu. I had the Spent bowl, subbed crispy chickpeas for the quest fresco. My friend got the Almost legal bowl. We split a side of brussel sprouts and plantains. Everything was delicious. Build your own bows of delicious goodness! (Or try some of their premade combos). Honestly guapo is consistent and super thorough each order 100% of the time at any location. Try one of their baseball size empanadas with some sweet chili dipping sauce too, YUM. The quesadilla really hits the spot too and is loaded for cheap. Love these guys! read more

The food here is very flavorful! We've gotten food from here many times. When you get take out, you walk in and there is a big counter that you pay and get your food. We usually get Arroz Con Pollo Rice Bowl, Dazed and Confused Rice Bowl, and we got Almost Legal Rice Bowl. Arroz Con Pollo is very good, the chicken is tasty and so are all the flavors of the slaw, guacamole, and rice. There are also plantains in it which are yummy. You can ask for only white meat if you want. The Dazed and Confused Bowl is good too, the Brussels sprouts and corn are nice and it's super flavorful. I highly recommend getting food from here if you like stuff that has lots of flavor. We order online usually and it's super easy! read more

I finally made the drive to try out el pollo guapo after wanting to go for months and it did not disappoint! I ordered the almost legal bowl which came with rice, corn, pickled onions, their delicious rotisserie chicken, sriracha aioli, slaw, guac, pico, plantains (so good!), and queso fresco (I got without!). The chicken in the bowl is so flavorful! I can't wait to come back and try more of the things on their menu! read more

Was in Glastonbury and decided to stop in here having had amazing luck at another one of their locations. My daughter had nachos the wife an empanada and myself the salad. The food don't get me wrong was good but not as good as their Berlin turnpike location. I don't shun this pace but over all the most impressive part was the fact it has way more seating then the other. read more
