My visit to El patron exceeded my expectations. I was greeted by the nicest staff and seated right away. The staff here is friendly and definitely checked on me throughout my visit. GREAT find! It's a much bigger space than how it looks on the outside. Took a small while to be seated and served at first but once our waiter came and got in his groove he was great! We saw that he was seating and serving other tables so he definitely deserved the grace. Chips and salsa were good. My friend and I came in for National Margarita Day. They had a GREAT special ($1.99 for small margs +$1 for flavors) and we definitely took advantage. By the 4th one we couldn't even finish it and didn't feel bad at all. The watermelon marg was definitely my favorite though. Our food and drinks both came out very quickly. I got the chicken chimichanga which tasted SO fresh. The portion size looked small but surprisingly one and some of the rice filled me up (maybe it was also the liquor lol). Even the rice was better than what I usually get from other restaurants. The restaurant itself is in a strip mall, but don't let that be a negative. Walking in, I was greeted and the staff was super friendly and polite. The menu is huge and being my 1st time; I had not idea what to order. I found a dish that was loaded with ribeye, chicken, shrimp, chorizo, veggies, etc and ordered it. It was amazing!!!! We ordered the white cheese dip and it was buttery and savory. I prefer with some jalapenos and chilis but it was good. We ordered the steak fajita burrito which was fantastic, Smothered in more if that great white cheese. I ordered the Steak Fajitas bowl with no rice. It was smothered in cheese and peppers and perfectly cooked onions. I asked for a side of there hottest hot sauce and it was red and full of aroma. The heat was an 8 out of 10. I've tried and loved other El Patron (Helena and Moody) but this one is a total disaster. Tried the restaurant in summer 2024 and sat for over 30 mins with no service, drinks or acknowledgment and just walked out. Tried it again August 2025 and was still disappointed and will NEVER recommend!!! The salsa was literally chucks of tomatoes; but whatever could possibly let that slide. The queso was lukewarm and thick and tasted like canned cheese. The margaritas were literally watered down with no taste of tequila; a regular and the strawberry both tasted like it was premade and sitting with no alcohol in it. The food (burrito and chimichangas) was literally lacking flavor down to the rice. The only thing that was good was the guacamole. read more

El Patron is a new restaurant that has opened up in Trussville. The decor inside is so pretty and you can tell they put their heart into this new establishment. Coming here for lunch and was seated immediately by the host once I'd made it inside. There chips and salsa are so good and I had plenty of salsa in the bowl that I didn't need any refill. I ended up ordering a steak quesadilla off the lunch menu and for the price, it was plenty of food. The steak and vegetables was well cooked and seasoning to my liking and I really enjoyed the rice and beans. My water was refilled without asking and the manager and the waiter came by the table to check that I was doing good. Overall, this is going to be my new spot for Mexican food and I can't wait to come back. read more

Head back to the bathrooms so you can see just how much they DON'T care about keeping it nice and clean! And don't worry, no one is in a rush to take your order. Your food won't be there for a looooong time anyways, so, feel free to order and walk about gazing at the scenery, which is honestly the one good thing about this place. Don't look too closely though, if you're a neat freak, goodness knows when the place has had a good scrubbing. When you get back to your table, and bring that unpleasant bite to your lips, be careful not to get frostbite from the temperature of the food. My son wanted to add: if you love tasteless discs of fried mystery meat, order the chicken nuggets from the kid's menu! Sure to please your palate! I used to go to this location before it was El Patron and the food was excellent. Then one evening my family and I show up and it's got new owners and a new name. But the big surprise was when the food was served. Four people (us) and four different entrees and four huge disappointments. The first thing that caught my eye was the decorating inside. It looks like you are dining along the streets of Mexico and it's just beautiful. I got one of their mixed drinks - the Cantarito - and it was delicious. It had some tajin and chamoy around the rim and was served in a beautiful cup. We all enjoyed our entrees and the service was fantastic. I will say I wasn't a huge fan of their salsa - it really just tasted like a tomato sauce.
