My veggie burrito...hard to judge the size here but it was HUGE!
Mandy C.

I honestly didn't expect to give this place a 5 star rating when I ordered take out, but what a pleasant surprise! I ordered a vegetarian burrito, side order of refried beans and chips with pico and guacamole. In the dead of winter, everything was so fresh and it was clearly made from scratch. The guacamole was the real thing and no weird creamy filler (as some restaurants add, which is a real pet peeve of mine). I was very impressed with the burrito, which was filled with fajita style veggies and Mexican cheese...it also came with rice as a side! The portions were HUGE, I had 2 full meals from the order. Their prices can't be beat, either! I can't speak to their authenticity (I'm a born and raised Indiana gal) but the flavors and freshness will keep me coming back.

Walked in, the waitress made eye contact with me and walked to the back, so I sat myself - nobody came out to greet me. My friend joined me and we sat for a few, their were two other tables who had menu and drinks - we left b/c a racist establishment such as this will not receive our money.

Definitely a solid spot. Food was authentic, minus the chips, which I had seen in other reviews. I love the chip brand they serve though so I could care less about that. Guac was fresh and had good chunks of avo. I got 2 Al Pastor and 1 carnitas tacos. Both were good. The carnitas had a bit of char on the edges which gave it a little crisp which I was a big fan of. I would have liked to see more pineapple chunks in the pastor, but that seems to be lacking in the Indy area. Not my favorite Mexican spot in the area, but have to give them credit for the authenticity and great taste!

Another good dish... Marjolla del a Diabla. Yummy. Full perch scored and fried in Diabla sauce. Perfectly cooked and happily supplemented with tortillas and fresh picante. Happy Hombre'. This was served with rice and accompanied tomato lettuce onion and lime wedges.

Love this place! It's a little hole in the wall on the west side but it's amazing and so authentic!! I been going to this location for the past 7 years! It's worth the trip! They have one of the best horchatas! A definite must try!

Carousel of salsas. The red one is HOT! Beware!
Julie M.

Good authentic Mexican grub. We had the chicken fajitas and chicken quesadilla. They brought out a carousel of salsas (salsa verde, tomatilla salsa, pico de gallo) but it didn't have the usual salsa served in most Mexican restaurants which was a bummer to me but others in my party enjoyed it. The tomatilla salsa was SUPER spicy, so be forewarned!! The queso was watery and pretty disappointing. The corn tortillas for the fajitas were super good. Overall it's a decent place to grab a bite of Mexican cuisine and I would probably return if I am in this area again.

Secluded little gem with Authentic Mexican flavors. In my never-ending quest for the best tacos in Indy, a friend and I visited El Pastorcito on an early Saturday evening and were pleasently surprised by the foods authenticity and freshiness. I went straight for the street tacos (corn tortilla, onions, cilantro) and had the El Pastor, Lengua, Carnitas, Barbacoba, and Suadero. Tacos arrived on freshly made tortillas with your traditional lime...And slices of fresh radish and cucumber which provided a nice change in pallet to the tacos, providing that crisp fresh taste you want (something I've never seen in a Mexican restaurant in the states before). Flavors were on Point! Especially the El pastor and the Lengua, both of which were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The other tacos we're good, but didn't wow me as much as the El pastor and Lengua. Interestingly, Pastorcito does NOT provide Free chips and salsa like your usual Tex Mex. Instead it's 1.99 for an order of chips and salsa. Do yourself a favor, and just order the chips and salsa. Sure, the chips are quite literally from a bag (like tostitos chips), but the salsa verde and pico de gallo are Fantastic! Though the red salsa wasnt my favorite as it was a bit bitter due to the peppers they used, they did try to balance that by sweetening it with pineapple juice. However, the salsa verde was fresh and acidic, providing that great lime and cilantro flavor. And the pico de gallo was perfectly seasoned, just enough salt and acid to bring out the flavors of the tomatoes and onions. Yea, the chips came from a bag....but who hasn't devoured a bag of tostitos... they're delicious! So coupling that with some stellar salsas, and the 1.99 is well worth it. Ok, there have been a lot of compliants on Yelp about the service at Pastorcito, and I get it. But you have to realize that 1) the constantly checking-on-you service we get in American restaurants is NOT the norm around the world, and 2) Not all of the service staff speak or understand English well. So be proactive but respectful when you need something. Flag/Wave down your waitress and they will come to you. Since they weren't busy when we visited, I literally got up and walked over to the waitress who was busy in the kitchen to ask for things. I do so respectfully and was met with friendly and immediate attention. If you know this before going in, you'll be quite satisfied with the service. Also the menu has been updated from other previous yelp reviews, so this review includes the most updated version as of April 27th. All in all, I'll definitely be checking out Pastorcito again. I still won't crown it as the best taco shop in Indy, but it's definitely up there. Check it out and enjoy yourself!

House-made horchata! Yum!
Haley R.

My boyfriend and I were looking for some good eats in the area so this became, I think, the first restaurant I've visited based solely on its Yelp reviews. Unfortunately, it left me wanting. El Pastorcito is tucked inside a strip mall on 79th & Michigan. At 5:00 on a Wednesday evening, we were the only diners inside the clean, orange stucco-interior establishment. I was surprised to see two "dining" rooms. I say "dining" because I definitely noticed a pool table, so I'm not sure if room #2 actually houses many patrons. The super bonus of the evening was that El Pastorcito has horchata, which is pretty rare in Indy. Not only this, but they make it in-house! Whaaaat! This was like when Tim Curry finds the lost city of Zinj in Congo, but without the ultra violent gorillas. Man, I was excited. (I realize that Congo is a terrible movie that's 15 years old and therefore pretty much irrelevant, but it's on Netflix and I couldn't help myself, okay?) I'm also not ashamed to admit that my entire reason for choosing El Pastorcito was because they serve brain tacos. Seeing myself as adventurous and never having had brain, I knew it was destiny. As someone mentioned earlier, chips do not magically appear at your table. $1.25 or so buys you a basket of tortilla chips they pour out of a bag, and honestly I only had about five of them. They just weren't very good. If you're going to charge for tortilla chips (something that's generally on the house), learn to make and fry them yourselves. This would make it worth the additional charge. I ordered the carnitas en salsa verde (pork meat in green sauce) along with one of the aforementioned brain tacos, and my boyfriend ordered the carne enchilada (spicy steak with rice and beans). Our food arrived piping hot not too long after. While my carnitas were generally pretty appetizing, I had two or three large chunks of nothing but solid fat. And don't get me wrong, this girl loves marbled meat. But I don't want a whole piece of pork fat that's slightly larger than a tblsp of stick butter. The carne enchilada is no standard wrapped enchilada covered with red sauce. It's literally what the menu states - some strips of "spicy" steak with a side of rice and beans and a plate of tortillas. Dry steak and no spice here. Wah wah. In regards to the brain taco: I can't say much about how it fared on a scale of 1-10 as I'd never eaten it before. I suppose I'd describe it as a hot, seasoned slightly creamy gelatin. Needless to say, the texture doesn't bode well in taco form unless you stuff it with some onions and tomatoes for a crunch factor. I LOVE lengua (tongue) tacos, but brain just isn't for me. I do want to make note that the waitress was friendly and attentive, though she had no other tables at the time. All in all, a completely lack luster experience which makes me a little sad because I was so excited to go based on previous reviews. Nothing here put me totally off, but I don't think I'll have a reason to go back. Sad. Face.

Trio of dipping sauces: pico de gallo, salsa verde, and something really hot
Katrina D.

Large portions with not large prices? Yay! I'm a fan. Friday is go out to lunch day at work so I came here with my coworkers. Lunch averaged about $10 per person after tax and tip. Not too bad for a restaurant with waiter service! I had the chicken enchiladas rojas- so good. The three enchiladas came with a salad, rice, and refried beans. When your food comes out, so does a trio of dipping sauces: a spicy red pepper sauce (and boy is it HOT), a green salsa, and pico de gallo. Refried beans are one of my favorite foods and El Pastorcito had the best refried beans I've ever had. I could have had a meal of solely refried beans. Now I want them again since I've been thinking about them. I'm glad we gave this place a try!

The service was a bit slow but it being cinco de mayo, we understood that things may move a little slower than any other day. The restaurant is sleek and has a cool vibe, but we immediately realized it was not going to be what we thought of when we saw "street tacos" mentioned during Google search. It's more of a metropolitan American Soul fusion place, with a heavy emphasis on loaded, uniquely flavored tacos instead of traditional Mexicana. The server was wonderful in explaining their menu and gave multiple recommendations, which I went with all of her great suggestions once I told her what I was craving. My husband didn't enjoy his appetizer, saying it tasted too sweet instead of savory for him, but the server was great at being aware of our plates and took the appetizer off our bill when she noticed he wasn't eating it without us even mentioning it. I got three different tacos, and the only one I didn't enjoy was due to the Mac n cheese that was stuffed in it. It just didn't taste or feel right having a taco with macaroni that was pushed in so densely that it became a sponge. The other two were great! My husband gave his burrito a 3/5, as he felt it was too much one note. Overall, don't come here if you're looking for upscale Mexicana, but instead want to enjoy interesting fusion flavors and fun cocktails. Great place for a group outing or celebration!

Then again, it's not an uncommon story unfortunately- large parts of the city forgotten in terms of economic development but then suddenly needed during times of campaigning. Tlaolli stood out for its vegan offerings. Plenty of vegan taco options, birria (an absolute rarity to see vegan birria), and torta. They offer soy chorizo, jackfruit, and king oyster mushrooms as protein options. The exterior is colorful, and inside there are seating options. We had gotten our food to go, so I cannot comment too much on the service. Had placed our order online, and the food was ready within the estimated time in the order.
