These are my favorite cheese enchiladas in town. I almost always get it 'to go' as I am too busy to enjoy sitting inside. The food is always hot enough that you can travel all the way to Visalia and still have a nice warm lunch when you get where you are going. The only con I have is the salsa. Ordered a taco salad with carne asada. It was almost all lettuce, with some foul smelling ground meat. I ate 4 bites just trying to stay positive but kept feeling nauseated. When the waiter approached asking if everything was good, I kindly told her there was something wrong with the meat and it smelled and tasted rotten. She said she had just had some and it was Good. She took the plate away and she didn't return. When I walked to the counter to pay, she charged me full price for both meals And Didn't offer to deduct or trade out for another dish or compensate in any way. The Details: The breading on my wife's fish fillets was oily (undercooked) and impossibly salty. The rice and beans for both us was too salty. I was able to fix mine with crushed chips and mixing it with the small salad on the plate. I don't think that my wife suceeded in this at all. The guacamole was watery, bland, and only briefly acquainted with any avocado. I believe our waitress tried to warn us and I did not pick up the hint. Stale chips. I was really happy looking at the menu and the prices. Everything we tried was delicious and our server was so friendly. She was really wet with our kids and made sure we got refills and checked on us a few times during our meal. I love their self serve salsa bar. My nachos were packed and so good. The taco I got was huge and the tortilla was so good. The meat was flavorful and hit the spot. I got tea and it was really good too. Definitely won't come back. Came Sunday after church. Horrible service. Finally got up and got our own menus. They never came for our drink order. After I got the menu, they came in less than 5 minutes to take our order (and finally drink order)- hardly even enough time to decide. People all around were getting wrong orders. It's now been over 30 minutes since we sat down, and I still don't have my drink. Kids are getting antsy. Salsa is like water. Husband wanted to come here because he said the food is "spiceyer". Been out of chips for at least 15 minutes and they haven't brought more, despite us asking for them. So apparently they forgot about my drink. They brought the adults food before the children's!! My son ordered guacamole. It was like no version of guacamole I've ever seen in my life. It was watery. The pico de gallo finally came, after we reminded them, and again it was like nothing I've ever experienced before. It was super salty and had cucumbers in it. It was not edible. My been tostada was nothing but a pile of refried beans with iceberg lettuce and a little cheese on top. By the time we left, everyone was in terrible moods. In fact before we moved out to the Central Valley, I would drive down for work this way and she would make sure I ordered her chimichanga meal before I drove back home (3 hrs away) and brought it back to her. This has been my go to Mexican restaurant I have been a customer for years before they moved, through the pandemic and the owner change. My food is always to go! I got my food Friday and the beans were so wet!! Water wet no flavor slopped all over my enchiladas and rice which I always get a #5 I think there may have been a trace of cheese in my enchiladas it was disgusting. To top it off the Horchata was watered down. We should have taken the rumor seriously right when we walked in seeing that there was a man laying on his back (literally) using 4 separate chairs as his support with his knees up while he was using his phone. The food and the michelada were lousy. They only had one waitress on a very busy night and took twenty minutes before she came and took our order. El Nuevo has been a fixture here in Exeter for at least 20 years now, and while it's got a huge local following, I just don't get it. I have to start by acknowledging the fact that they workers are amazing. You will always get great, friendly, fast service, and they are the only place in town that delivers (aside from the pizza joints). The shrimp cocktail is pretty much the only thing I can recommend in good conscience. They don't skimp on the shrimp, and it's got a wonderful spicy broth that I love. The rest of their menu is pretty disappointing though. Everything is so greasy, and fatty that your tongue will be coated in oil making it hard to taste much. The albondigas is the worst thing I've tried from here. The meatballs appear way undercooked, and the veggies are soggy and not fresh. The potatoes were green, and the broth was very oily. Thinking that I may have gotten a bad (old) batch, I decided to order it again as I love albondigas. Sadly, the same result again. I hate giving this place a bad review, as I adore the hard working staff, but folks should know before they spend their hard earned money, what to expect. read more
