Great margaritas and huge servings! Food is delicious and this place has become a weekly hangout for us

I have eaten at this restaruant every couple of months for two years. The food is consistantly outstanding. Quality and value per dollar. The same waitress has always been there smileing, full of energy, and regularly stops by to see if anything is needed. I have also eaten at the el nopal in louisville, which is also very good. Just based upon value per dollar I'd give them five stars for food quality and service. I made the mistake of ordering the crabmeat enchilada. The crabmeat was spoiled and smelled foul. Unfortunately, I only realized this after eating a few bites. I hope I don't get sick. New rule: When trying a new restaurant not known for seafood- don't order seafood! The rice was dry and rubbery. The "free" chips and salsa were the only edible things on the table. Not sure I'll go back to order a more traditional Mexican food like tacos, but perhaps that would be something pretty hard to mess up. However, since they didn't even offer to reimburse me for the cost of the spoiled food, I think not. read more

Excellent Mexican Food! Not crowded on a Friday night, food was delicious and very fast and fresh. The guacamole is very good!!! Be careful though, the salsa bottles aren't marked and the spicy is super spicy!!! read more

El Nopal - The Half Guac Half Queso plate. - Mexican Near Me - Florence, Kentucky

Moved to Northern Kentucky from El Paso, TX. Hoping to find a descent Mexican restaurant. This is NOT the place! Ordered combo #6- enchilada, taco, beans and rice. The shredded beef was chopped bbq brisket and the taco shell was the same as you would buy at a grocery store. Green enchilada sauce was sour. Husband ordered taquitos mexicanos, but it was more like chimichagas. Kids had bean burritos and we had to tell them how to make it (their version had red sauce and covered in cheese soup). I called and placed a pick up order on november 13th for 3 meals that were mediocre and didn't taste even close to how much they costed I was disappointed to say the least. I wasn't bothered too much until I saw that half of my order was wrong. I called up there and they acted like they couldn't hear me halfway through my complaint so I called back and they did it again. after that the other person who was with me called and they said there would be a refund of $22 posted to my card in 5-7 business days. Here I am a week and a half later without the refund. I just called up there and they could hear me until I started complaining about not receiving my refund. I wouldn't have cared as much if the food was better quality because 2 quesadilla meals and a burrito meal shouldn't have costed $69.42. Overall don't recommend the food quality isn't close to the price and they are rude and will refuse to refund you for missing items and incorrectly made items. read more

There are a lot of Mexican restaurants in Florence, and El Nopal is distinguished by having the worst food. I had crabmeat enchiladas and my wife ordered spinach enchiladas. Both were filled with soft gooey stuff that was flavored and colored relatively close to what we ordered, but had the texture of cereal that had been in milk all day ... and tasted about the same. The staff was pleasant and attentive. The prices are reasonable. But I'm never going back. read more

The only reason I give it a 4/5 instead of 5/5 is sometimes the waiters can have a hard time understanding English, which is difficult in a restaurant. The food is really good though, and you get free chips and salsa with every meal. It's definitely my go-to place when I'm in the mood for good Mexican food, and I definitely plan to come back a number of time. Portions are big, and the prices are good. Not nearly as good as the Louisville location. The waiter wasn't friendly. The grilled chicken quesadilla had chicken and a few specks of cheese. It was dry and didn't even stick together. The mild salsa tasted like tomato sauce. Not a place that I will go back. read more

Food was pretty good, service was okay. There was a large table of about three women and 5-6 kids next to us. The kids were running everywhere and screaming. Several kept coming up and trying to wave their arms and get my attention and i ignored them. One climbed in the space between our booth and our window and was about the climb on our table. I finally had to say something to the mothers who then barely scolded the kids who were back to running around in 30 seconds. This is the restaurant's fault. You are carrying around hot plates of food and trying to give customers a pleasant experience and clearly these people are jeopardizing that. Tell them to get their kids under control so I don't have to. I gave you several chances to do so and I had to do it. If the parents are too stupid to teach their children you sit at a chair at a restaurant, then the duty falls back to the restaurant employees, not the customers. I am sure we won't go back! read more

Authentic Mexican, quite up to the standards of the louisville locations. I had the burrito de carnitas, which was full of tender chunks of pork. El nopal's queso is unrivaled. Creamy with a dose of jalepeno heat. read more

My wife and I ate at this restaurant and was terribly disappointed. When the restaurant moved from across the street it was great. We had not eaten there in awhile because we have moved from the area. It is the second worst Mexican (?) place that I have eaten at. The salsa is nothing more than catsup. It has no Mexican taste, there are no onions, tomatoes or cilantro in fact there are no solids in it. Baskets of chips are left sitting on the table waiting for the next customer, thus they are cold. The combination meals we had were horrible. Two thirds of the plate was taken up by bland rice. One entree was like a pancake with ground beef and some kind of white cheese, totally worthless. Although the waitress was nice, she was stretched too far and was always late in her duties. Please, please be aware of this place. read more

Just stumbled across El Nopal this past Saturday as we originally exited I-75 to eat at a sports bar. While sitting at the sports bar for over 10 minutes with no one coming to the table, we left. A block away we saw El Nopal and there were a decent amount of cars in the lot so we figured it couldn't be bad. Well - - couldn't be bad doesn't come close to the truth. It was great. With in 10 minutes, we had ordered, had our drinks, had our server out twice along with the manger and had our food. Excellent and fast service. I had the grilled chicken salad - it was great. There was so much chicken - I couldn't eat half of it. The salsa - it was one of the best I have had. My husband had a huge 32 oz mug of cold beer. He was happy. I wish we lived closer so we could go back. Will stop by again the next time we are driving past! read more

Went to eat there for the first time a little over a week ago and enjoyed it. Went back with my son last night and asked them to turn the football game on and he said ok well 15 min went by no football. (we had a coupon that said come watch sports on our tvs) well then upon ordering I ordered the same thing as my first time and the waiter said no substatutions. (fries for rice) I said I had the same thing last week. He said no no no substitutions! RUDE as can be. I said well you know what ....the football game we ask for 2xs still isnt on and now you wont sub my food?! I said go ahead and charge me for my drinks and my caso I got for our chips. I walked up to pay and I said you just lost business from us and we had planned a 20+ party coming in this weekend. The man said ok have a nice day! read more

Food was average. I ordered the spinach and mushroom quesadilla which was served without sour cream (never had a quesadilla without a side of SC). I was charged $1 for it. Speaking of charge, check your bill. I was overcharged and could not get the waitress to understand so I just let it go but will not go back. read more

Terrible customer service! We ordered take-out from there tonight. When we opened up the bag at home, we saw that one of the items we ordered was incomplete (we had ordered cheese dip and chips and there were no chips in the bag). So we called them and figured it would be an easy fix--just refund us for the cost of the dip. Wrong. They gave us the option of either coming back to get the chips or returning the food. In other words, we either let them keep our money for something they didn't give us or we make another 20 minute round trip to the restaurant. So we returned the food because even if I had wanted to keep the entrees, by the time I would've gotten home the second time, it would've been cold. They refunded our money but at no point did they apologize for the inconvenience or for the mix-up. To make it even more insulting, they carefully went through the bag to make sure the chips were actually missing and that we hadn't eaten any of the food, as if I would waste that much of my time to cheat them out of some chips or a few bites of an entree. We used to go to this restaurant a lot (and visited another location in Louisville regularly when we lived there). We will never be going back. read more

Went because of we had a BOGO coupon for fajitas. Service was actually pretty good. Nice servers who kept our drinks full. Food, was meh. Salsa was not fresh made, chips were typical mass bought and reheated. Tortillas for the fajitas were also not fresh made, and probably not made there. Plenty of food, which was nice, but again, taste was just meh. Chuy's definitely has the drop on El Nopal with better food at comparable prices. We'll be going there from now on instead. read more

We had a very bad experience here. I got a piece of rubber band in my food. I showed and told the server. I was not going to make a fuss about it and ruin my evening. She went away and came back and said she will take off half of the whole bill. I thought they were being decent. When I got the bill, I found they reduced half the price of that dish only. I asked about it and talked to the manager. His reply was I ate the food and I should have told him in the beginning. I told him I didn't get the rubber band till later. He was so rude in how he talked to us. I said I could report this but his answer was I can do whatever I want but I have to pay for the meal. I understand mistakes could happen but the way they dealt with the situation was horrible. This was my first time here and definitely don't plan to go back there. read more

A group of five went with me to El Nopal in Florence. We will not go back! The bigest reason was the desert. Four ordered desert and one liked the plain ice-cream. My fried ice cream had hard things in it that could cut your mouth and could not even be pulled apart. Another with us checked it out and we both showed the waiter. He took it back yet would not credit or check for the amount, not even a sorry about that was given. I did not get the food I ordered yet still billed for it. I gave coupons to the waiter and he said he took them off yet he did not. They did not act like they knew how much less to do business. You been warned. read more

I truly like El Nopal. My only complaint is that they can be bit skimpy on the salsa. The bottles are almost always half full if not less.

They send out coupons all the time. I had one that just expired and they would not accept it. Bad business in my book. They were rude when I tried to explain the coupon. Will never go back. read more
