    Concha and Polvorones
    Monty D.

El Nayar's Bakery brings back memories of past bakeries I have been to: straight-forward, unpretentious and very affordable. This morning we tried 2 sweet breads (pan dulce). In the picture, the top bread is concha and the bottom cookie is polvorones. The concha is a small semi-sweet loaf, white and very light breading. Concha means shell in Spanish, which is what this bread looks like. The distinctive topping is made primarily from shortening, confectioner sugar and flour. This makes for a sweet, tasty topping. The concha at Nayar's is very typical of what I have had in many, many places. Polvorones is a whole class of cookies. Polvo in Spanish means powder or dust. As with these cookies, they crumble quite easily. They have a very mild flavor; the variation in color here is a result of coloring. They are semi-sweet and good with a cup of coffee. We ate them on their patio, which in the morning had plenty of shade and was set back enough to be away from the traffic.

The first and last time going here. Bread was a good portion size, but it was so dry you could choke on it. Tamales were mostly masa, with a small portion of meat in it. Wasn't bad tasting, more bland. Lady who was behind the counter wasn't very friendly but kept the place clean.

    The best in Redlands!

Tamales- 10/10 Bread- 10/10 Tacos-10/10 Champurrado-10/10 Everything 10/10! The best place in Redlands I got half a dozen tamales for $9.50 not too bad but it's definitely worth it!

Fix your MENUDO!! I had to add flavor when I got home and that shouldn't happen. It's not a factory line.

Terrible customer service and bread needs to be fresh. I understand your busy but freshness should always be your priority for customers.

I also like the pan dulce, but I can't leave this place without some handmade tortillas.

The vibes are top tier & thanks Nas to you and the rest of the staff for being so great all of the time. This establishment has some truly amazing souls that work there. Every time I've been and it's a lot, the service has been wonderful. I used to be a baker for many years and I'm hardly impressed with places because I either taste the cheap lack of quality ingredients or the lack of fresh ones. This place has neither. I taste all the flavors, quality ingredients and fresh ones too. I look forward to all the new things that'll come out and the summer Friday nights for "Deaux after dark" I've been to a few and have never been disappointed. 100/10 Mint matcha is my current favorite drink that you can get to go. Honestly, it's the best matcha I've ever had! 100/10 Ube seasonal was amazing. Breakfast savory and the pastrami are Epic! Tres leches is also one of my favorites. They offer apocalyptic teamster discount. They host community engagement events and have always been this way since day 1. Check them out on social media if you want to keep up with all they have going on.

Nothing about Deaux is a generic, this place is a Gem. I ordered the Olive Oil Salt, Protein Donut and a couple of minis. The flavors are delicious, well balanced and the store is gorgeous, minimalist and clean. Music was a little loud for 630am but whatever gets the staff motivated and moving I'm for it. Staff was plesant, patient and upselling. My tiniest critique was that the dough was a little spongy. Of all the things that have to go right on the daily for a business, for this the be the error is the best news. This is such an easy fix. It seemed like to me that the dough was either not proofed long enough or over-mixed, or if it's regularly this way possibly the recipe has too much egg. Or maybe this their signature! Either way, it was still delicious! Great job Deaux, will be back for more soon!

Glad I did because it was fresh & delicious. I ordered a Build-A-Sandwich & you will see in my picture how fresh & well stacked it was. Sandwiches come with chips. I also ordered a Village Mango ice tea which topped off the meal. It was refreshing with the splash of pineapple & mango pieces being a treat at the end of the drink. Also got a pecan popcorn bag and some white chocolate over honeycomb. Everything tasted like it was from the 10-day old bakery. All the cookies were stale, hard, and lacked flavor. The popcorn was chewy and also lacked flavor. The white chocolate honeycomb was hard and just not good. Every item we bought couldn't be finished because it was stale and just plain unappetizing. We ended up throwing everything out. So disappointing. Had to go to Cookie Crumble to satisfy the craving. Was trying to keep it local without going to a chain, but there was no comparison. Do better Village Candy. We want to support our local businesses but the quality has to be there.
