This candy shop is a throwback in time. It was quaint with so much decor for one's eyes to enjoy. I have been here before for the candy & recommend it as a treat to yourself or as a gift. Chocolate I have eaten was creamy & delicious. This time I wanted to try a sandwich. Glad I did because it was fresh & delicious. I ordered a Build-A-Sandwich & you will see in my picture how fresh & well stacked it was. Sandwiches come with chips. I also ordered a Village Mango ice tea which topped off the meal. It was refreshing with the splash of pineapple & mango pieces being a treat at the end of the drink. Was craving a good cookie while downtown. Stopped in and they had a special buy 3 get 1 free. Got 2 peanut butter, chocolate chip, and a sugar. Also got a pecan popcorn bag and some white chocolate over honeycomb. Everything tasted like it was from the 10-day old bakery. All the cookies were stale, hard, and lacked flavor. The popcorn was chewy and also lacked flavor. The white chocolate honeycomb was hard and just not good. Every item we bought couldn't be finished because it was stale and just plain unappetizing. We ended up throwing everything out. So disappointing. Had to go to Cookie Crumble to satisfy the craving. Was trying to keep it local without going to a chain, but there was no comparison. Do better Village Candy. We want to support our local businesses but the quality has to be there. read more

Christmas Eve I was running around last minute in the pouring rain. Work had run later than expected and I had very little Christmas spirit in me. My wife loves the chocolates here so I had planned on getting a box. I was greeted by Vincent who was very kind but let me know they were already closed and in process of finalizing the till. It was after 5 and I felt terrible for even being there on Christmas Eve. I headed back to my car and was about to leave and Vincent brought a box of chocolates out in the rain and gave them to me. They also make specialty drinks that my family likes to enjoy in the summer. They also make sandwiches with their own baked bread. Haven't tried those yet but they look delicious. This is the best shop in Redlands for any chocolate or caramel treats. Everything they sell in the shop is high-quality from handmade peanut butter cups, caramel turtles, fudge, caramel apples, and even caramel popcorn, and so so much more. I have shopped at this location for years anytime I'm in downtown Redlands and have never bought anything I didn't like. They packaged things beautifully upon request, so they also make perfect gifts if you can manage not to eat them right away. The shop has an old time, historic feel, but is well maintained and incredibly clean. It gives you the feeling of stepping into the past without the dust. I can't wait to keep coming back and bring my little ones. The staff are always incredibly friendly. They have free samples of certain items so you can get a taste of the quality difference. On this last trip, I accidentally forgot one of the items I purchased, and the staff who checked this out, ran halfway down the street to make sure we got it back. This place is amazingly underappreciated! It was Bicycle Classic weekend and we were walking around the mayhem up on the parking structure around the bike course (BTW this a great event for people watching!). Suddenly, it became lunch time. So we went to Village Candy Kitchen: it was quite, serene and plenty of inside seating (we got the cushiony chairs). Now when you walk in, you're definitely in a candy and a fresh bread bakery. BUT ................ there's more: they make sandwiches. While not fancy gourmet sandwiches, but very tasty, made-to-order with tons of options. You fill out the sandwich order slip, select your options: bread, dressing, meats, cheeses, veggies and they'll bring it to you. You can eat in peace and quiet - even on Bicycle Classic weekend, one block a way. BTW, don't forget their chocolate and fudge. read more

I'm no Smartie expert but this candy shop is on the Sour patch side. The menu was a hand written paper sign. A small food selection of sandwiches to order which was a little confusing . Half of the candy shop was dark and cluttered with furniture. A mini maze to walk and look at the preserves on the back wall so I passed. I'm no dum-dum. So I lolly-gag my way over toward the chocolate. That was semi sweet. You can purchase a chocolate covered orange Rind. I Snickered at the thought. The sweet side was the service it was popping like Pop Rocks and Mentoes shook up in a Soda Can. The selection was Brittle just like the different kinds they sell. I walked in, eyes beaming at the wall to wall displays of sweet treats, almost expecting little orange men to come cartwheeling out of the back room. Instead, I was met by the ambassador of the working Gen Z. I don't even really blame ol' sauerkraut Christine. As a manager or owner of a *candy* store, you should probably hire people so sweet, they give more cavities than your product. But hey, what do I know. All in all, I would really only recommend this place to people who don't put their grocery carts away or stop the pay-it-forward train at Starbucks. What a gem of a find! I was strolling the downtown Redlands area and the word candy caught my eye. This is more than your typical candy shop -- lots of delightful looking chocolates! I don't really eat chocolate but something else caught my eye -- cookie! I ended up buying four cookies (three sprinkles and one shortbread) -- just over $2. Been here several times now, and it always smells amazing! Sweet treats abound with chocolate covered everything. They also have a cafe + sandwich counter. I did a double-take at the size of the chocolate covered strawberries. Speaking of which, my Mini Me and I tried out the Iced Chocolate Covered Strawberry Latte, which I've never seen on a menu before. It mostly tastes like chocolate with a strawberry aftertaste. Nifty! The cases of chocolate treats are a sweet tooth's dream. They'd make a great host gift. A lot of the hand packaged hard candies, however, look like they'd appeal to more to old-school church ladies, which is fine for them but doesn't appeal to me. Jordan almonds, round primary-colored candy drops, etc. Sandwiches take kinda long to make. They taste good, but I'm not sure about all the food handling practices here tbh. I don't want to put anyone on blast, but I'll say I saw a few things that elicited minor cringes. Nothing I'd call the health department over, but definitely not best practices. My daughter and I came back to Redlands to revisit the antique store and hit up Jack's toy shop. We parked near Bank of America and was pleasantly surprised to see a candy shop ahead of us!! She was very warm, welcoming and friendly! I've visited Southern California enough to say that many people are very smug and rude. My daughter and I were pleasantly surprised that no one in Redlands were like that! We bought a caramel double chocolate pecan candy apple. Forewarned is forearmed and I didn't do my due diligence on this one, so it's on me. I have been looking for a bakery in the Redlands area for some time that sold fresh baked pastries and continue to be disappointed. My visit to the Village Candy Kitchen was another disappointment, not just for the baked goods, but particularly for the candy as it's in their name. (I do want to note that the sales person was friendly as that seemed to be an issue for other patrons.) Waking in, it's hard not to be overwhelmed by the amount of products spread out and in the display cases. The shear number of items raised questions about their quality (the amount of product turnover needed for everything to be fresh would be large), but I was willing to give them a try. We went on a Monday evening and purchased two different types of cookies (dipped shortbread & shortbread with sprinkles), a s'mores fudge ball (basically fudge mushed into a ball) , 2 different sour balls, mint & chocolate fudge slice & maple nut fudge ball. Everything tasted off, bland, or stale. The cookies were stale and didn't have much taste to them. The s'mores fudge ball did not taste like s'mores. The maple walnut fudge ball did not taste like maple or have any nuts. It had a chemical taste to it. The mint fudge slice tasted as if the mint flavoring was artificial, heavily artificial, with an aftertaste. The sour balls were OK, but again left a not quite pleasant aftertaste. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place for anything that we've tried and they gave me no reason to go back. read more

And the candy's not cheap..... we bought hand dipped Caramel apples and of course my husbands fav root beer barrels...... It seems like the apples are running small this year. We've always walked by this shop, but we never had interest. Finally gave it a shot today. While the strawberry rhubarb jam was good, I can't bring myself to give them more than one star due to their lack of customer service. We purchased several treats, and a caramel macchiato. The guy who rang us up was courteous enough, quiet but otherwise indifferent. The female who made the coffee was rude. She didn't seem so interested in making the coffee (someone in the back asked her something, and in an annoyed tone responded, "I'm doing this caramel macchiato so... (sigh)." She hands me the coffee (which was in a Starbucks cup), and right in the middle of her saying something about the coffee, the cap fell off. She picks it up, went behind the counter, then walked over to the register to help another customer. My family looked at each other wondering if she had forgotten me, or had forgotten to give me another cap. After she helped that customer, I asked her if I could have another cap. She said that the caps they have don't work on the cups, then walked away. It would have been nice to be forewarned or her not just walk away without saying one word. It completely brought our moods down that I just tossed the coffee. Will not be coming back. read more

This place had a chilly climate inside the store which made it a relief when entering due to it being like a billion degrees outside right now. We brought the kiddos here after a haircut and some walking just to give them a good little treat for the Labor Day weekend. This cold temperature and shake are uplifting my soul. These chairs r comfortable to sit in and to enjoy the chocolates and drinks. They have sweet edible treats, even teas, and coffees, even affogatos. This place has a bit of everything for anybody with a sweet tooth to just satisfy. Very polite and friendly staff :) will come back Forsure. I've tried this place a few times and I have to say I'm not feeling it. The chocolate is MEH. I bought some of their 'fiddle faddle' -- and thought it was tasty it came in a rather small bag for $6. I This is frustrating because (so far) I've noticed chocolates in Redlands at extremes. PARLIAMENT chocolate can run bitter and rather intense, where VILLAGE CANDY seems too bland. We have been patiently waiting for the new Redlands store to open and it finally did. My wife and I went here today for coffee. The lattes we had were very good! The owner, Dawn, was chatting with us while she was making our coffee and she is so sweet. We loved getting our lattes in a ceramic mug which always feels special. After enjoying our coffees we looked around the store a bit more. They have so many things in there! Jams, specialty crackers, dipping sauces, gourmet pancake mixes, and so much more. This is a cozy and nostalgic store, they even have some decent creations for those guilty pleasures. The reason for my low rating here is the customer service, or lack thereof. There were younger employees, looked like high schoolers, not friendly at all. A young girl behind the counter just looked at me, she didn't greet nor welcome me, didn't say a word and failed to ask me if I needed any help or had any questions. In fact, it looked to me like they didn't even want to be there, perhaps they were forced to work here for court-ordered public service? This is what it came across as, or just another pack of privileged Gen Z persons? Whatever happened to customer service? read more

Excellent staff, they have a home town feel and they treat you like family. I miss them in Oak Glen but are easy to find in Redlands. We love to visit especially at each holiday time because they always desplay a special treat! Come in and indulge yourself. read more
