I was craving for some lengua and even better if I can have lengua with a taco, burrito, or quesadilla. I got the tongue meat taco and I think at this order I ended up getting another meat on my quesadilla.Nicely cooked lengua and it was easy to chew. Ordered a jarritos and the mushroom quesadilla. The quesadilla here comes in 3 and it's basically 3 corn tortilla tacos. (Not an American quesadilla) I couldn't be happier because I really wanted tacos but since the menu didn't show me mushroom tacos I opted for this. I've been a vegetarian for almost 2 months and sometimes I can't find a decent flavorful non meat taco. Well this place was a hidden gem for me. The flavors were great. I've lived across the street from El Mirador for years, but I never realized it was actually open until I started seeing reviews for it -- and then it appeared on my Seamless suggestions. Always down to give neighborhood spots a try, I ordered Cochinita tlacoyos, mole enchiladas, and choco flan. Initially, I was super impressed by their menu selection! Maybe 15 minutes after I placed my order, I received a phone call from the restaurant. The person on the other end asked (in Spanish) if I spoke Spanish, and it was a good thing I do, because they didn't have either Cochinita or choco flan. No worries, I thought, and said that regular flan and al pastor tlacoyos would be fine. I got another call right after asking what kind of meat I wanted in my enchiladas, since they don't have a way to mark your selection on Seamless. Through all of this, the lady was super nice, and I was still feeling optimistic about my order. It arrived a full hour late, but I was still hoping I'd be really impressed with the food! Sadly, I just wasn't. The tlacoyos were definitely the standout -- they were super flavorful, well-made, and the salsa roja was fiery and delicious. Also the portion size is huge, my husband and I easily could have shared this dish alone and been fine. The enchiladas were really underwhelming, not a ton of flavor, watery sauce, and the vegetables used to garnish were not fresh or ripe. You could really taste the fact that the ingredients were low quality, which was a shame. I love flan, but this one was not my favorite. It had a very soapy flavor, and it was served oddly in a 16-ounce cup. 1) that's a lot of flan and 2) it was almost impossible to get to the syrup. Overall I'm glad I tried this place, and I'd consider giving them another shot for a cemita or something, but I would not order delivery again. I also think you'll really struggle to eat here if you don't speak Spanish, especially because it seems like their seamless menu is very inflated with items they don't actually keep on hand. read more

Everyone who lives in the Ditmas Park area and it's immediate surroundings knows that pickins are very slim when it comes to delivery choices. These people are well outside the neighborhood and they delivery here anyway. There are about 4 Mexican places that will deliver to those of us that live near Newkirk station and this is the best of them. Mirador is always very fresh. They are AUTHENTIC, this is food made by Mexicans FOR a Mexican palate and those of us who appreciate that even if we're not Mexican. Yes, delivery takes forever. I know that and I deal with it because of the freshness of their ingredients, and the fact that the food will be good. Some Mexican places near me deliver much faster but are nowhere near as good in flavor. This is a small, seemingly family business and whoever delivers my food (younger guy, older guy) is always super polite and friendly. The prices here are also beyond fair. Menu standouts: steak tacos, steak or chicken Nachos Supremos (these are fantastic, add a little lettuce and onions and you have the perfect bite) which are good enough to convince my husband to eat Nachos regularly, something he never used to....also the Tortas are great, especially the Milanesa and grilled chicken varieties, and nicely made guacamole. Recently tried the golden taco and thought it was a good dish for every once in a while if you want a crispy tortilla, although beware the giant chunks of meat inside, it's not cut in cubes like the soft tacos, it also tends to be covered in sour cream so maybe get that on the side if it bothers you. Their green and red hot sauces are super fresh and tasty too (get it on the side if you're not used to real heat or else your food will be unedible). I've also eaten inside, sitting down with my husband a few times and those were also good experiences, with icy cold beers to boot. It is definitely divey, dark and kinda weird in the front but the jukebox and other patrons create a quirky vibe that I enjoy on occasion. Don't know how it would go for people who don't speak Spanish, but the service was fine and the food was the same --- overall, consistent, fresh and delicious. Thank you El Mirador! read more

I feel like the point of Yelp is to make people read and know about a place like this. Why the fuck does Shake Shack need another review? How many does it have, like 270? I like Yelp a bunch, but it seems like at this point you know about Shake Shack. Or hipsters or food nerds do. So El Mirador. On the scale of 1 to Mexican, high on the latter side. Hidden in the dirty fill in uncomfortable body part (I would go with taint way over armpit and asshole, but it's a democracy we have choices) between Kensington and Borough Park which the rest of Brooklyn who doesn't live near there will never see but maybe you should. Because the Cubano cemita here is equal to Sunset Park places. I'll say that. Wait, now I am fucked because you will just go to Sunset Park. I live around this area so going is easy for me. Ok, here's a reason to come to this super no frills, everyone is mexican who eats here any time I have ever been here type of place. Everyone is nice, we all need to hide from our friends we hate, stay with the taco arabe and the cemitas, get the cemita over the torta, I say that, you do what you feel, I am a 70 year old Jewish grandfather and yes Ethan just got accepted to Brown so we're all happy about that. Other menu items here: the regulars who will never post on Yelp or haven't so far love the pozole. It's hot out, tacos are 3 star and you can find better (maybe even at Mi Barrio across the street or the Ditmas Ave Cart that I don't think anyone knows about). Everyone is nice, the tortas/cemitas are really good. Mole queso enchiladas okay, haven't had the huaraches. Hot rice and sweet milk was good. Pork Cheese Cemita actually has the right seasonings in it (papalo!) Shockers Taco: Alambre doesn't mean shocker, but this was really good. Really heavy. Think mexican philly cheese steak (chicken, pepper, onions, cheese, seasoning.) Tlacoyos: Good, like a masa huarache. Arepa texture, salsa verde, queso blanco. If you are on Church Avenue and craving a Torta- this is the place to go. Couple things- you will wait some time for your food but there is plenty of Fanta and beer to hold you over. This is a VERY casual place. Prices are manageable if you are bringing a family. Once again...the Torta's were great. Will defineitely return. read more

The staff is always very nice and the food is always great. They take a little longer to prepare than other places I have ordered so take that into account, but other than that we are always happy with the result. It's also alway a welcome place to sit in and have a beer. I suggest the quesadilla, it's not the flat kind, it comes as sort of a fried taco with everything on it. Very nice. read more

I feel blessed to live within a 5-block radius of this authentic Mexican restaurant. One of my favorite places for takeout/delivery - not only is it a good value (platters are large enough for two), but the quality is right, and this is coming from someone from south Texas who knows his frijoles. Speaking of, I always judge a Mexican place by the quality of the rice and beans and this place does it right! Top recommendations - any specials of the day, including tamales on the weekend, pork chops en salsa verde, flautas, chicken mole, green (pipian) mole, shrimp a la diabla, and chicken milanesa. I would agree with the other review about the beef, however I've only had the beef milanesa, which was a tad on the greasy side. read more

Late in the evening one can't be picky about good food. I got the nachos which were quite good (but halfway soft cuz the delivery came almost an hour after I placed the call), the chicken burrito, (I did not like the chicken, it somehow felt subpar in quality) and a sangria soda (nothing like an actual sangria. I liked that the nachos had avocado and lettuce included. I wish they would add more lettuce and more avocado though. The burrito was unlike anything I had seen before. It wasn't wrapped like a roll, it was placed in a Styrofoam box, drizzled with cheese and was ok. It was too spicy for my liking, making it difficult for me to eat and enjoy. The sangria soda was weird but good. I'm giving it five stars because it was ultimately good food on a late evening and delivered. I will definitely order from here again. read more

I'm so disappointed in the good reviews, because we had a horrific delivery experience through grub hub. we ordered last night at 10pm and got our order at 11:30pm. The food was cold. We ordered guacamole and asked for chips in the order since I didn't see tortilla chips on the menu. The guac came with 8 tortilla chips. I ordered a roast pork taco, and got a spicy pork taco with fresh pineapple - WHICH I'M ALLERGIC TO!!! No one has made good on this experience. There's also a $3 delivery fee plus a tip. Just give up. You're better off finding a Taco Bell. My first order went horribly wrong (ie missing and incorrect items)and the manager didn't care to make it any better. This is my local Mexican place of choice. They have some great usual fare (my favorites being the burrito al pastor and the chiles rellenos) and some stuff you won't find at many other restaurants like Mi Barrio, like tlacoyos and huaraches. These two dishes (kind of like papusas at the Red Hook carts in the summer) are my girlfriend's favorites. They use a special batter, so they take a little longer to cook. And of course, weekends mean tamales. The tamales here are spicier than at many places -- it's up to you if that's good or bad. The only warning I have is to steer clear of the beef; it's not the best quality you can find. The service is quite good, especially if you speak Spanish. It can be a little frustrating if you don't unless the manager is there. If you're eating there, bring some money for the jukebox. If you're picking up for a night in, be careful balancing those take-out cartons or all those yummy beans they're so generous with will be all over your bag. And yes, they have their liquor license and a cooler full of beers. read more

Authentic Mexican food with all the trappings. They will actually serve you spicy food without you having to request it, which I love (and is surprisingly rare, even among Mexican joints). This isn't gourmet, but it is delicious. I've ordered from them time and time again, and I always have a good experience. There will occasionally be a bit of gristle in the steak burrito, but that sorta goes hand in hand with the experience. read more

This place is great. At first, you can't tell if it's a mini mart or a restaurant. It's definitely a good restaurant, but if you want to take some Italian dressing and Tylenol for the road, you can do that. The lady at the counter was really nice and helpful. She recommended the steak enchilada with red sauce to me. It came with beans and rice and it was sooooo good. The beans and rice are good, not great. The steak is tender, flavorful, and grilled nicely. The corn tortillas are tasty, the red sauce is fairly spicy. If you're looking for a milder plate, avoid the red sauce and opt for the verde instead. It's a good amount of good food and they even served it with 3-4 thick slices of avocado all for $9.75. I think this is the best Mexican spot on Church Ave and you should definitely give it a try. I'd also like to note that they don't accept credit cards, contrary to what it says on Yelp. read more

I only order for delivery. I'm a big fan of chicken enchiladas and this place doesn't mind substituting lots of green sauce (very spicy!) for the red. The chicken is tender and juicy, and I love the refriend beans. It includes three very large enchiladas - it's at least two meals for me, sometime three. Guac is also great but also spicy, sometimes a little more jalapeno than I'd like and I can take a good bit. If you're not afraid of heat, it's the best! read more

If I could give less than one star I would. Our delivery was missing an item and when we called to get a refund on our credit card, they actually disputed the fact that it was missing. The enchiladas were inedible with hot spice. When we complained about that, they told us that it was Mexican spice and would not do anything about it. Four stars for their tamales. They are second best I've had after mom's. I love the beans and the rajas ones. Their chilaquiles are also great, but quite spicy. I was disappointed by their tacos and wouldn't recommend to order food to stay unless you're a guy, are my dad's age and like "banda" music sung loudly and off-pitch. Excellent, authentic Mexican food with huge portions. Discovered the place after a quick search for mexican food on grubhub and reading other positive reviews. Food took one hour from order to delivery arrival, although we are over two miles away in Flatbush. I would wait two hours for my food just to get delivery from them. The tacos are overstuffed, great flavor and great. The tripe soup is also very good if tripe is your kinda thing, and even better with the onions and lime.
