One of my favorite Mexican restaurants. The food is always consistently fresh and the staff is super kind. They're also so quick to make and serve everything! read more

Environment was cool, football on the tv was nice to watch. Food was mid, sent my steak back once, came out better, no seasoning on the meat, guacamole was the best thing in the table, shrimp was a little rubbery, not terrible tho. Service was a 6/10. Place was busy. Small town Mexican basically. read more

Updating my review after yet another great experience. This is my regular lunch stop when traveling between Michigan and Indiana. Conveniently located just off the highway, definitely worth the short detour. Service is always fast, friendly, snd efficient. This restaurant is huge! But tall booths and separate rooms allow for an exceptional dining experience. Everything I have ever ordered here has been perfect. They do a nice job on takeout too. Highly recommend! read more

On our way through the area, we needed a quick meal and stopped to give this spot a go. It was a busy Friday night, but the inside space is huge and even though there was a wait it did not take terribly long until we were seated and ordering. As per usual at most Mexican spots in the US, a dish of hot chips and fresh salsa arrived for us to much on. We also ordered one of our favorite go-to appetizers, a white cheese dip with jalapenos. It was exactly as we'd expected. For main dishes, my wife ordered the Seafood Mexicano Special served with fish and shrimp in a cheesy sauce along with Mexican rice. I ordered the Defiance Special consisting of a tamale, a couple of chicken flautas, chicken and ground beef nachos (topped with lettuce, tomatoes, guacamole, sour cream) along with sides of rice and beans. It was a lot of food and it came out hot, fresh and fast. We filled our bellies and were off on our way to West Lafayette, IN. read more

We were plenty surprised with our first visit ever to El Mezcal Mexican Restaurant! This restaurant brags of being traditional Mexican and Tex-Mex, but it's really hard to decipher the origins of the style cuisines primarily focused on! It seems they take a potpourri of styles to create their own... one cannot make out from which of the 32 Mexican regional styles are offered either Sonoran, Michoacánes, Tlaxcalan, Oaxacan, Yucatánes, or so many others. But their offerings are very good, some extraordinary, whether an assortment of all or in some instances of specific regions, the food, their preparation, the ingredients used and the way they present them are noteworthy as well as tasty! They offer a wide array of soups and salads, enchiladas, quesadillas, burritos, fajitas, chimichangas, nachos, chicken, beef, seafood and vegetarian, along with twenty assorted combos and traditional desserts, beverages, children's servings and wide range of local and Mexican beers and Tequilas - straight, bottled, on draught or mixes - Margaritas, etc.! The restaurant is nicely appointed in the most typical of South of the Border style furnishings and traditional Mexican colors, furniture, tables and big! During our first visit we decided to have a try of a good selection of their offerings which included an excellent rendition of Choriqueso Dip, a terrific, tasty Chorizo and warm Queso dip, perfectly seasoned without in-your-face (mouth) heat, along with their house-made chips for all of us at the table. My wife decided on getting a monster dish called el Molcajete Mezcal with tender grilled chicken, succulent steak strips, tasty shrimp, fresh green bell pepper, onions, mushrooms, and covered with zesty tomato sauce and Mexican cheese, along with rice, beans, a dollop of sour cream, very nice rice and beans, guacamole puree, very tasty pico de gallo, and warm tortillas served in an old fashion molcajete. My Sis went for the Enchilada Jalisco, a chicken enchilada drenched with cheese sauce, lettuce and tomatoes with sour cream and served with rice and beans. Although a relatively simple dish, I decided on testing their Combo #7 that encompasses one really tasty enchilada, a delicately and lightly battered perfectly stuffed yummy Poblano chile relleno along with pretty good rice and beans. I was pleasantly surprised! It was really, really good. El Mezcal Mexican Restaurant in Defiance is an astounding example of where one is going to find exceptional Mexican Cuisine in the U.S. As a Foodie and self-proclaimed Cuisenaire, having had the best Mexican Cuisine has to offer across Mexico and the U.S. up close and personal south of the border, regardless of region. Viva El Mezcal y Buen Provecho! read more

El Mezcal - Fried Ice-cream - Mexican Near Me - Defiance, Ohio

Good service, menu selection, and taste. Waitstaff did a great job monitoring my needs without hovering.

Food was great I would recommend this place to everyone. Very good costumer service and food

They have delicious authentic Mexican food. Always fast service. It's nicely decorated.. in Mexican design. We enjoy coming here often.

Really great Mexican food with pretty good prices, easily one of my favorite restaurants in the area. I haven't tried most of the menu as I'm the type who sticks to a few orders and only sometimes tries something new, but everything I've had has been very good from tacos and enchiladas to even the free chips and salsa which are delicious and I run out of over and over whenever I visit here, probably irritating the waitstaff with how many refills I need on them. Really recommend checking it out, especially during less busy hours when it's quieter and more relaxed - though no matter when, the food and service has always been good in my experience. read more

Best service, get your food fast, expect refills when needed. overall the best in town!!!

This restaurant was clean and pretty. All the chairs were unique and matching along with the table. The service was very good. She was quick and friendly My boyfriend had the chimichangas and said they were very very good. The only negative was the amount of rice he got. Looks like they were running low and just spread it around his plate to fill the area. His dad has the defiance special. It was a huge portion and said it was very good. My dad and i shared chicken and steak fajitas. The portion was very generous but they only give you 3 fajitas and charge $1.25 for extra pack of 3. We used 6 total to eat there and i asked for another for the left overs. I didn't know there was an up charge until i saw the receipt. Our total for the 3 meals, and 4 waters was $39.00 read more

As a regular at el mezcal i hast thought long and hard of what to say for this establishment. They hath authentic mexican food (probably) from there dip to there yolandas. There wait staff is very quick, always there whenever you need them. You order and the food I brought out quickly. Parents think the drinks are very fine at this establishment. They even have hamburgers for the people who don't care for Mexican food. There walls inside the establishment are colorful colorful and really unique. read more

This place is hands down the BEST authentic Mexican food around. Everything else is just... meh. My boyfriend and I frequent here... and when I say frequent we try to make it in once a week. EVERYTHING is good. I like to switch it up. You can't go wrong with the fajitas and the tamales. The tamales come smothered in a red sauce and cheese... so good! A large amount of food for a fair price. The service is incredibly fast and friendly. I adore everyone in there and they're always ready to make sure their customers are happy. Super great atmosphere. I love this place. It's a must go on Defiance, especially because most of the restaurants in the area are mediocre chain restaurants... read more

I had one of the best margaritas of my life here! Frozen peach margarita for $5!! The food and serve were spectacular. 10/10 recommend!

Super fast service, good margaritas, and the best queso (white cheese dip) in the state! They are wonderful at accommodating groups.

This place is great. Easily the best Mexican food I've had since moving to the Midwest. The chimichanga was great, but the fajita nachos were the real star of the meal. I've never had anything like them before. I don't live in the area, but if I were passing through, I'd be willing to drive 30 minutes out of my way to go here. read more

Met friends who live in rural Ohio here for dinner. I really liked the crispy chips, and the salsa wasn't bad either. My margarita was strong and good! My burrito had excellent seasoning and the meat was tender. If I'm ever in Defiance again I will definitely come back! read more

My family and I visited El Mezcal 6 weeks ago. We loved it so much, we have made it our Wednesday night spot every week. The guacamole is fresh with tomatoes and onions, and their food is delicious! The best part is the $3.25 margaritas on Wednesdays (they are the best tasting $3.25 margarita you will find), as well as their outstanding friendliness and service. The portions are nice sized and priced well. Well done, El Mezcal! read more

The reviews were right on. I ordered the chicken fajitas nd they were absolutely delicious. The food is very plentiful and the service is quick. The Lime margarita was exactly to my liking. I only wish the cheese dip was a little thicker and the salsa spicier but the food more than made up for it. A real hidden gem in the middle of nowhere for this business man. read more
