It's Sunday out for the annual trip to Oak Glenn for apples and cider. Just had breakfast and was thirsty so I just sat down and asked for an ice tea. A very friendly young man said coming right up and would i like some chips and salsa. Then a fatherly figure stopped by asked if i needed anything told him im being taken care of. Friendly service for just an ice tea on a hot day. Salsa was good little slow afterburn. Decided to try an appetizer cheese enchilada. Boy am i glad i did This was the cheesiest best cheese enchilada i ever had. The cheese ozzed out and strung out longer than any cheese pizza i ever had. My friends were at the outdoor mart stopped by tried a piece OMG they never saw cheese just pull and stretch like that and taste good. I needed to use the facilities they were in back of the restaurant. OMG what a great beautiful patio outdoor settimg. Next time i will ask to dine in that spot. Private sireen trees for a natural enclosure and shade. I only got a taste of food a taste of service but an eyefull of a peaceful beautiful garden spot. Waited about 25 minutes for food. The sever was nice and friendly. The chips were warm and the salsa had a nice hit of spicyness. However it was pretty hot inside and the carnitas we all ordered came out looking more like pork chops instead of shredded carnitas. Wasn't much flavor and I wouldn't come back: although it has a lot of good seating and a nice area. I do believe it has a lot of potential. read more

This quaint restaurant has seating both inside and outside; we chose to eat outside on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. We waited perhaps about 10 minutes before a table opened up. We were greeted by friendly, happy servers. All the staff we encountered were friendly and attentive. The food was authentic and so good! Wished we lived closer so I could add this to our rotation of favorite places to eat! We were in Oak Glen for a day trip so we stopped in for a quick bite. I'm glad we did! Stopped here for the first time on our way up to oak glen. Ate outside on the patio. It was a Saturday so they had a farmers market going on in their lot. Started off with margaritas they were huge and delicious. Got tacos a la cart and the taco was the size of a salad plate piled high with carne asada so delicious. Then we got the taquitos and they were huge and so good. Fluffy and light crisp to them. The service was great they even had live entertainment on their patio. I could have sat there all day, listening to the awesome music that he was playing. Seating is limited, though, so to be courteous, eating and leaving right after made the most sense. The weather was great, so sitting outside was favorable, because we were so hungry we were going to forfeit the ambience of eating alfresco, but the inside of the restaurant was very hot- So we waited in line outside to be seated. (You wait outside of a small gate in line to be seated) Because of the terrain, our table was extremely unstable. I had to hold on to my cup the entire time I was eating because you are sitting at a slant where our table was located. If you are eating with children, even with mine being extremely careful, anytime they moved. The drinks were at a risk of spilling all over everything so make sure that you keep that in mind when you are deciding which table to eat at. The food was good, I have eaten at the steakhouse up here, and at apple Annie's, and most major restaurants located in this area. This is one of the best places I've tried up here. I was a little surprised at the bill. Our meal included one child's plate, one bean and cheese burrito, and two Meals. Two iced teas. Without the tip, $80. Slow service only 2.5 staff working on a weekend? Good thing we were not in a hurry. Service when provided was friendly totally understandable service would be slow with such a small staff. This was the only con thus minus a . Food portions are huge they match price of food . Beer Michie was on point good flavor you choose your beer good selection to choose from. Sodas are canned. Front patio is small, shaded and cool. We saw squirrels , blue jays birds and a deer while enjoying our meal. I've passed this restaurant on my way to Apple Annie's looked nice. I needed a place in the pass to have breakfast with some music or atmosphere- this fit the bill. Beautiful outside seating , wild peacocks and shady trees. The live singer was perfect. Service was friendly Food : Carnitas plate Taco Salad Chili Verde Chips. Hole in the wall gem! Authentic Mexican food with beautiful scenery all around. Felt as if we were away from home, eating at a scenic spot during vacation! We decided to drop by on the way back home after a nice, peaceful walk at the Oak Glen Preserve on a Sunday afternoon. We actually stopped by here to check on some outdoor shops, but it was so foggy they were packing up. Amidst the dense fog, saw that there was a Mexican restaurant! First off - ignore the low ratings. If you're a foodie and enjoy nature, this is a spot you MUST try! Understand that this is a local Yucaipa family restaurant and not some inner city franchise. It's an authentic Mexican small gem with surrounding scenery away from the city life. If you come during heavy traffic, then expect to wait. Common sense! The place was clean, had a mom-pops feel, and food was incredibly delicious - I think it's now our favorite Mexican joint in Yucaipa! Customer service was friendly and attentive. Leo and Amber (forgive me if I got your names wrong!) were incredible and welcoming. It's a great place for families and can easily be a simple, romantic spot for dinner dining. I wanted something fit for brunch, so Leo suggested #23 Machaca - oh my goodness... delicious!! My wife ordered our classic favorite #21 Enchiladas superiores with shredded beef and asked for both red and green sauces. We now know we like their red sauce more, but both were yummy! (Gotta experiment, am I right foodies?) Unfortunately no horchata drink at this spot, but that didn't deter us from having a good time. Mexican rice, beans, enchiladas, and shredded beef were delicious and tasted more authentic than the local joints here in Yucaipa (although Acocotli near Rite Aid comes pretty close to this spot). I have to emphasize the delicacy and tenderness of the shredded beef - absolutely savoring! So glad we decided to pull over and check out the outdoor shops, otherwise we would've NEVER given this place a try. It's so easy to simply drive by this spot and not give a care in the world. After taking a look around the town, we decided to stop for some Mexican food. It was a chilly day but the seating outside was nice and calm so we were comfortable. Seating inside is limited anyways, so outside is where you'd likely sit. They had clean bathrooms in the back of the building and a large patio in the back! Nobody sat in the bad the day we were there. My son and I ordered kids meal burritos with fries, which were about $13 each. The burrito was on the smaller side and the fries were all burnt to crisps. The burrito was delicious so that made up for it! Their chips and salsa are also very good. My fiancé got a taco place that he loved so much he wiped it clean! All together for the three of us, without ordering drinks, it was about $60! It was not bad but definitely not great enough to be that pricey, so I don't quite understand that. The service was good. The staff was super friendly and communicated with us about the extended wait time. They checked on us regularly and we actually received our food faster than we expected. We sat outdoors and enjoyed the live band playing next door while eating some amazing tamales and taco salads. I would absolutely recommend eating here. We drive up to Oak Glen to get away from the crowded city. It's a beautiful place. This Mexican Restaurant looked great so we thought we would try it. It was very good. The chips and salsa were good. I liked the spices in the salsa. We had a view of mountains on one side and oak trees behind us. We didn't bother with Apple Annie's. Too crowded and noisy. This was very calm and relaxing. The staff members were very kind, asking us if we needed anything or if we were enjoying the food after we'd been served. I really loved the tamale combo that I got, and the portions were the perfect size to take some home for later! Ambience in the back was terrific, we got our food earlier than expected (we were told it would be a 40-minute wait, but we were served before then), and the chefs definitely deserve a shoutout for their hard work. Fresh, homemade beans are comfort food. They're my ride or die. And El Mexicano II didn't disappoint me. The tostadas are generous portions. My boys are hearty eaters and a tostada (a la carte) for each of them was a perfect dinner portion. I moved to calimesa about 3 1/2 years ago and was struggling to find a place that has real authentic Mexican food. My fiancé and I went up to oak Glen one day and we decided to try this place out. We've always seen it but never gave it a shot because after trying other restaurants around and being let down.. I did not want this to be the same case and end up feeling like a waste of money but, this day decided to give it a shot. Man, when I say that this place has DELICIOUS FOOD... I mean just that! Their BIRRIA TACOS ARE SO GOOD!! Absolutely everything we've tried so far is so tasteful. I even took my family to try it out for the ultimate test (fam is from Mexico, Jalisco). They def loved it as well. Not sure what some of these other reviews were talking about when said def about this spot. Customer service is always on point and the owners work there as well. So we left the plates full and didn't even get boxes it was so disgusting. Flys we're everywhere and the owner was there and should be ashamed of himself calling it a mexican place when it's not. No season, it was bland. It was the most disgusting Mexican food I ever ate. Owner is just money hungry. Gth out of that beautiful town, don't blame your chef, it's you as a person and how YOU run the place. You need to get out of there and stay outta there. Fried fish fridays, is fish or shrimp tacos and worth it! Apple season starts August 31st and their hours change, as well as their menu due to how busy it gets. Once apple season is done the hrs , the full menu and weekend specials are back. Specials to try: birria tacos (beef not goat), Carne en su jugo and the ceviche. weekend menu changes and you have to follow their Fb or Ig page to find out what they will have that weekend. Inside seating is limited, it is a small building. wood burning stove for heat, no a/c. there is a small plug in fan though. outdoor seating in front n back, back's open during season only. Usually all year round there is one cook, the tia, who learned her moms recipes while she grew up in mexico. owners are usually the ones taking your orders, bringing your food or on the register all year round. Apple season is when they hire help. The weekends are the busiest, the weekdays seems to be a ghost town there, no matter what season we are in. prices had gone up just like everyone else. The table salsa is made from fresh ingredients. The chips and taco shells are fried in lard. Beans are made fresh. A good 90-95% of their ingredients are fresh and not canned. They don't typically have Mexican music playing. When asked, Its due to the customers preferences through the years. They tested out live musicians (sat and sun only), a majority of the customers preferred classic rock. Plus, people didnt like screaming over music to order. They are looking for new musicians to play weekends now. Their parking lot and restrooms are for customers ONLY and one of the owners is strict about that and will have your vehicle towed. Oh! More tidbits of gossip, a local told me the owners have other jobs outside of the restaurant. apple season is the main time to make money for basically the whole year. Once apple season is over, lots of business owners take out loans, some have to work 2-3 jobs, just to keep their business open all year round. They all must REALLY LOVE what they do up there and their customers! Also, word of advice, if you see a bear, don't try to feed it, take a picture with it, hug it, ride it, touch it, pet it, scratch it, brush it's fir, or think the poor lil fella is lost lonely n scared and everything will be ok lil guy cause you're guna go home with mama and I'm guna take such good care of you! After a rigorous hike on Oak Glen, we were starving! We stopped in here and we're warmly greeted by a man and a woman who instantly took our drink order. I ordered the day's special, papas which is a potato filled with cheese, carne asada, onions tomatoes and topped with diced avocado. My friend is a vegetarian and ordered a bean burrito, but when I explained he is a vegetarian, the man offered to grill some veggies and add them in with the beans and included rice as well! They totally catered to our needs!! My papas was very good. The potato was perfectly cooked, and the carne asada was so tender, it just melted in my mouth. I enjoy writing and providing credit where credit is due, and this hidden gem of a place is one of the most like a secret garden-type atmosphere. Unfortunately, it was right after the snow and heavy rains stopped so it was rather cold/freezing I might add. Two heaters on top of the tables were going. I felt like we were in a cabin enjoying the beautiful birds out our big bay window, as we sat inside trying to keep warm, inching our way closer to the heaters :). The owner was sharing with us the menu of customer favorites. We tried the taco plate and the chili Colorado plate. Both were authentically prepared and cooked to perfection. Some may say the food items were overpriced or provide negative comments on the food quality, we can choose to walk out and eat elsewhere. I am only all too grateful that this family-owned business remained afloat after the pandemic. I can assure you the owners would be very accommodating if there were a problem. We truly enjoyed our lunch items and I witnessed others doing the same. We met a woman that was with her daughter celebrating her 90th birthday, how wonderful that she chose to share it on the day we visited. Thank god there were free chips and salsa because the wait for our food was around 35-40 minutes. I ordered a cheese quesadilla with sour cream, which was almost an additional $2 for a little dollop. Kinda crazy if you ask me. The food was alright... granted you can't really screw up a quesadilla. The back patio was nice to sit at and all the servers were very friendly. The food is all homemade and excellent quality. The owners are very friendly and more than happy to serve their customers. It's a family owned and operated restaurant.
