I was in the mood for Mexican food, and this place was the closest option available. Wow, was I lucky! The vibe and ambiance were great. We were greeted immediately at the door by a friendly man who seated us right away. Our server brought out some of the best chips and salsa I have ever had! For my dinner, I ordered a combination plate with two options. The taco was good, featuring a crispy shell and tender, flavorful steak. I also loved the refried beans and rice. However, the Chile Relleno truly stole the show. When our server asked if I wanted it crispy, I was initially puzzled because I had never been given that option before at other restaurants. He recommended the crispy preparation, which was fried, and I decided to take his advice. I'm so glad I did! I can't believe I've never had it crispy before. I have been to the Providence location and it was great so we stopped in to try the Wareham location. We were seated straightaway and our chips and salsa came out and were hot and fresh. Our server was excellent and very attentive. I had an ice tea that was very pleasant and my wife had the blueberry margarita and loved it. I also liked that the music wasn't overly loud and the interior was tastefully decorated and not over the top. We ordered the fresh guacamole and it was great! I ordered the steak and chicken fajitas and my wife ordered the enchiladas. I really liked the flavor of my fajitas and sides but there were really lacking in the amount of protein that came with it which was disappointing. I didn't have enough for the tortillas I had. Also I only had 2 pieces of bell pepper and the rest was onions. My wife loved her enchiladas and they were full of flavor and fillings. I have been here multiple times I always get the same thing . Chicken fajita quesadillas always soo good. However they always give a hugh scoop of sourcream a small scoop of Guacamole . Not even enough for the size of the quesadillas . If you ask for a little more Guacamole they change you 2.25. Food was delicious authentic Mexican food Chimichangas and burritos- huge portions and delicious Service was so so- took almost 20 minutes for someone to come to our table - then waiter debated with us about my drink order- which I didn't ask for advice - I was just trying to order my margarita. He tried telling me not to get one bc I wanted it frozen and that I should get something else. It was a little odd and by that time we were slightly annoyed from waiting so long to get our orders in.. we asked for waters twice before they were brought to the table- maybe not a big deal but we were eating spicy food and needed a drink/ any drink... at that point Getting the check took awhile too- it felt like our waiter didn't remember we were there - multiple times- Ambiance was great and food was excellent. El Mariachi was one of the few restaurants open on Labor Day in Wareham and it exceeded our expectations! I would give a 4.5 but I'm rounding up to give them love for the quality and massive quantities of the food. We were grateful for their outdoor dining spots, which allowed our pup to join us for dinner. The service was top notch and our server Carlos was excellent - so welcoming and on top of it. Us New Yorkers really appreciated the 3 bowls of complimentary salsa and fresh tortilla chips for our party of 5- so generous! the fresh guac is a must and I really enjoyed the tender pork loin in my chile verde entree. The rest of the party enjoyed their chimichanga and fajitas, though the chicken in the fajitas was noted to be a bit on the dry side. We all brought home leftovers, because the portions were absolutely insane. This seems to be a local gem, as the restaurant was poppin with customers inside, with people waiting to be seated too. Called in for a take out order which was done quick. I got the chicken tortilla soup and a chicken burrito. The soup was 7/10 really appreciate the way it was packed mostly to go I'd add more ingredients to the soup but it was great. The burrito was massive and tasted great with the Chipotle mole sauce on top 8.5/10 Seemed like a nice spot overall I went during lunch time and saw people at the bar looked like they were having a blast I know I would of too if I didn't have to go back to work. Came in on a warm summer Saturday afternoon seated immediately. Indoor seating only - would have preferred outdoors as it was a gorgeous day. Said it was only open "much later". Fair enough. Ordered the spinach and cheese enchilada with black beans and white rice with vegetables (peas, corn, carrot, even a few green beans) which may be a regional accompaniment. I really don't like writing bad reviews. I try to be fair but also honest & highlight the good & the bad of my dining experience. Really good authentic Ethnic food on Cape Cod is almost non existent which is a travesty but it's unfortunately a reality. I have searched far & wide & literally there are very few places that are very good or excellent. This place is fine but it's not very authentic. I ordered a top shelf jalapeño margarita on the rocks with salt because I can't stomach the sour mix they use. It was actually pretty good but not all fresh lime juice. It had sour mix in it also which they did not list on the description so it's misleading. The red salsa is pretty generic & is clearly from a jar. Likely Pace salsa or the equivalent. The chips are fried flour & not homemade & are okay. The guacamole was actually good but also not homemade. I ordered the 3 pork soft tacos & they were fine but not great. The pork was pulled but not marinated & not very flavorful & was a bit greasy. The soft corn tortillas were also a bit greasy. I DO NOT recommend the rice. It had a funky taste of old grease. The charro beans however were authentic & great. The side of red salsa for the tacos tasted like unsalted canned tomatoes from a blender. No flavor whatsoever which was hugely disappointing. The decor is typical Tex mex. There is a small U shaped bar with 2 large flat screen TVs. The walls are paneled with a variety of Mexican memorabilia. It's not a large establishment. It's located along the Main Street in Wareham. They have very appealing easy going Latin music pumped throughout the establishment at an audible level. The staff is very good. They were prompt, friendly & efficient. I was seated immediately & a busboy brought chips & salsa immediately. My waiter greeted me promptly & took my drink order & brought me water. So no complaints there! I am lucky to have had lots of authentic Mexican from Austin TX & CA. But finding good authentic Mexican is just really hard on the east coast outside of a major city. And Cape Cod is just too seasonal & not ethnically diverse enough to support a good one. Anyway, this place is fine but it's a bit pedestrian & nothing on the menu was really encouraging enough for me to return. I did notice a lot of people ordering fajitas & they looked pretty good. Fajitas aren't very difficult to make so I don't really know if that would sway my impression of this place. I highly recommend the owner & chef start making their own homemade pico de Gallo, salsas & sauces. And they need to crack open an authentic Mexican cookbook and/or go to California & try some there. They will then understand the difference between great Mexican food & the mediocre food they are serving. read more

We went to El Mariachi in Wareham for lunch today. The food was fantastic as always, however we were OVERCHARGED for our meals. They charged us 20.95 for shrimp tula, which is only 14.95 on the menu AND their website. And they overcharged me (only $1) for my meal. But still, that's a SEVEN DOLLAR OVERCHARGE!!! That's a 25% overcharge/error on their part. AND I left a generous tip because the staff is so nice. Usually. It sucks because it makes me not want to go here anymore and I really love it. Mexican food done right! The food is always fresh and the margarita's are awesome. The staff is so friendly and helpful as well. If you're into guacamole then you have to order the fresh made guac, it's magic! There are a few other food items on the menu (burger, fries, chicken fingers, caesar salad etc.) The (seasonal) outdoor seating area is an added bonus. There are some tables w/ umbrella's and a really nice breeze off the water so even on hotter days it's still pleasant. This is always my #1 restaurant recommendation for anyone visiting from out of town. This is a family owned business with multiple locations on and off the Cape. I enjoyed my tacos and my husband had the chicken mole which he said was good but not fantastic. I ordered guacamole thinking that it would be the freshly made guacamole at the table but instead I've got two small scoops of guacamole that was probably from a package. One of my favorite Mexican restaurants around! I honestly don't come here enough and I just live down the road. I love the Wareham location, it's very cozy and quaint. I ordered some take out last night, they literally had my order ready in 10 mins or so. I've also dined there, and they are always are very attentive. My favorite line up is a corona Rita, with some queso blanco and a caramone quesadillas (amazing if you're into shrimp and mushrooms)!
