    Chips and salsa

Just added to DoorDash so I decided to try. The delivery was super quick. I liked that the menu had lots of unique items. The guacamole was a little spicy and my favorite part of the meal. The chicken had lots of onions and peppers mixed in. The rice was really soft which is how I prefer it.

Oh, so bright and colorful... reminded me of drives down the Baja peninsula with my family, to Ensenada. Music was modern Mexican/Hispanic, which I enjoyed listening to. Terrific start to the meal: they have horchata, Jamaica, and tamarindo aguas frescas -- which I grew up with in Southern California, so getting an ice-cold horchata as big as my head made me stupidly happy. The salsa that came with chips as we were seated was *good* -- fresh cilantro and onions (not the cooked-to-death style of salsa -- I grew up with Baja California style salsa with lots of fresh veggies). I ordered the tamale lunch, with rice and beans; His Goatness ordered the burrito gigante, which he enjoyed to the last plate-scraping bit. Filling, solid, Mexico City-style food, no frills but totally authentic. Happy tummy. We'll definitely go back. Oh, yeah... all that lunch was only $22!!! Win!

I am bummed to report that my experience was a bust! I wanted to bad to love this place but am struggling to come up with a list of pros; other than being greeted by a fun explosion of color and fun music. Ordered house lime margarita. This drink was thick and syrupy...only to get a little better when watered down (and who wants to water down a margarita). Service was extremely slow. I've worked in a restaurant and understand that sometimes happen, but we were one of 3 tables at the time. We waited nearly 20 minutes for drinks...often watching our waiter stand and text on his phone. After our check was brought out, he never came back! He went to other tables to pick up their checks but for whatever reason skipped ours! I can come up with the positives of chips and salsa on the table, always a yummy bonus and food was subpar. I feel that there are many other Mexican food places in the area that would be a better place for a meal out and deserving of business.

Mistake.... Ugh. My husband and I got the Arroz con Pollo and it was such a small serving... we were so disappointed. It tasted ok, but it didn't have any tortillas with it like it was supposed to. Also, we had ordered 2 beef enchiladas, but only got one. It tasted ok, but again, very frustrating. I got 2 beef tacos and the underside of them fell apart - I couldn't even eat them like tacos. The chips were also stale. Altogether it tasted just ok and did not feel like a very good deal. It was a little expensive for what we got. Won't be going back.

With so many Mexican restaurants to choose from, this place needs to step up its game to make it a destination for anyone other than a local. It is set back in a shopping center which is easy to miss if you are traveling at speed north on Emerson Avenue just inside I-465. We drove by, but turned east on Churchman and drove back through the shopping center to the restaurant. My wife's fist comment was that the parking lot was trashy and needed a good sweeping near the restaurant entrance. Once inside, The initial appearance was better maybe because of all the festive colors. (Not too loud either.) But the flooring and the blinds on the windows looked like they could use some repair/deep cleaning too. The restrooms didn't have a light switch so it took a moment to figure out it must use a motion sensor to turn on the lighting. I found this uncomfortable until the light finally came on, I didn't close the door behind me. We were seated at a bench, but because my wife felt she was so far away from the table, we were able to move to a different table. Our order was taken promptly, but there were some miscues. My wife ordered a beef Quesadilla, but it arrived as chicken. This after the waiter had already checked back once to be sure of the meat. She also ordered a strawberry margarita and there was a miscommunication. She likes them frozen, but I think she might have said icy. The liquid had a few ice cubes floating in it and was otherwise just not that appetizing in appearance. I ordered the lunch burrito beef which was ground beef and sides of really smooth beans and rice, but no pico de galo or sour cream on top. Okay flavor, but just so so. Having had a similar meal elsewhere last week, this was a distant second in both flavor and texture. Forgettable. The meal was okay at best and filling. If we hadn't been in the area, I don't think we would have ordered here. Review #3926

Been coming to this place for several years now. There Mexican food is really good. There margs are really good. Their specials are usually really good. I love fajitas so that is usually my go to when I choose Mexican. Theres are awesome, I typically go with chicken, sometimes I try to get steak and chicken they dont always let me do that. It comes out on a piping hot plate with grilled onions and grilled peppers and then you get a second plate with lettuce, pico, guacamole, sour cream, Mexican rice and pinto beans. They also come with tortillas to make your fajitas. I usually have them not bring me the those out because I usually load up on chips and salsa which is also awesome. I typically make my fajitas into a salad of sorts i add my chicken and grilled onions to my second plate and just eat it like that. So good. There salsa is usually on point with enough spices but not too much to put your mouth on fire. Occasionally I will do a small side of queso, depends on how hungry I am. Everything I have ever gotten from el mariachi has always been pretty good. I will continue going back since it is located in my town.

Here from out of town it was ok. Not the best, flavors were ok but my husband did not like his enchiladas at all. He got a sampler of them and he said they just all tasted the same. Would rate more of a 3.5 but not trying to be rude. Mine was pretty good, bit over mediocre that's why I went with a 4. I had a create your own. Taco-ok, Chile releno -good, tamale looked like it fell apart in microwave but taste good. The worst part honestly was the chips. It's hard to get past bad chips stale old almost burnt and then be fair on the rest of the food.

This was the second time we came here for dinner. The first time was better, this time I had one of my favorites, chili verde. The chunks of pork were delicious but the verde sauce was so overly salted it had no other flavor, very disappointing . The chips and salsa were good, you could tell the salsa was made there but just didn't have the fresh flavor we are used to. The rice and beans however were delicious. Clean restaurant with good and friendly service. Will go back.

    Best churros ever!

Overall a chill environment and ith a nice front patio/ sidewalk seating area. We enjoyed the chips n salsa varieties, surprisingly the darker salsa wasn't spicier just a different flavor. Orde re d the chicken burrito which was gigantic easily enough for 2 to share. Very well made fresh ingredients, covered in sauces and cheesy. And we all tried different margaritas, mine was a strawberry fruity take on a margarita, good and garnished nicely. Rated fresh and flavorful, not very strong and a bit pricey. Especially with some being $100+ for a drink was wild. Overall nice place, nice environment, wasn't busy and tasted good but is priced higher than most Mexican restaurants in the city.

Driving through…read morehere, you see the blight and the abandonment of this area of Indianapolis since the decline of manufacturing. Then again, it's not an uncommon story unfortunately- large parts of the city forgotten in terms of economic development but then suddenly needed during times of campaigning. Had taken Keystone and then Rural Street to get here, and the potholes are not kind. But, we had this place on our list and were determined to make it here at least once. Tlaolli stood out for its vegan offerings. Plenty of vegan taco options, birria (an absolute rarity to see vegan birria), and torta. They offer soy chorizo, jackfruit, and king oyster mushrooms as protein options. The exterior is colorful, and inside there are seating options. We had gotten our food to go, so I cannot comment too much on the service. Had placed our order online, and the food was ready within the estimated time in the order. We ordered the vegan birria tacos ($17.99), the vegan torta ($10.99 base but added soy chorizo, which was $3.99), and the no-no-no taco ($5.99). Our total with fees was approximately $45. Tlaolli offers outdoor seating, so when the weather is nicer this would be a good place to come. Next to the East Washington IPL branch, Tlaolli has a colorful green exterior with neon signage. Food: The food was very good. The proteins were nicely seasoned and juicy. The highlight for me was the birria tacos and the consome. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it. 10/10. This is a great local business in the area to support: offers a diverse menu of options with food that is comforting and tasty.
