Service is always pretty good but it depends on which server you have. But apparently there are multiple chefs which means the food is always different. I get a pretty basic order of nachos and sometimes they are amazing, sometimes they are just sloppy. Like in this picture, when they put a whole slice of tomato on my nachos. The food here was incredible. As hispanics from South Florida, speaking spanish helped communicate easy with the staff. But nothing takes away from the quality of the food, truly authentic and scrumptious. The salsa to start was great quality and fresh, chips crunchy and great. We came here with 12 people and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience. True 10/10 experience. I've been here half a dozen times this year, so I feel qualified in giving my final opinion on this matter: This location is hit or miss. Depending on staff, the food will either be good or bad. The service will either be good or bad. The drinks...... you get the idea. I order the same thing every single time I come, and sometimes the pricing is different. A single problem is one thing, but all of these problems together becomes... problematic. Not sure where the issue is stemming from, but I hope they return to the great place it once was. There aren't a lot of options in the area, so there is a probability I'll be back, but hoping for a good experience the next go round. read more

So we sat for more than 30 minutes. Chips & salsa only. Our waitress took our drink order and wrote it all down and then 10 min later (now 40 min in) another lady joined her to figure out our order. (It was a beer, waters & 2 margaritas) we got the two margaritas 15 minutes later but our friend never got her beer and we never got waters and our waitress never came back to take our order either. Came here with a couple friends for the first time.. Food wasn't too bad however terrible terrible service. Took forever to bring our food and refill drinks. We waited around 20-30 minutes to be seated yet the whole place was empty. There was simply no one to seat us. Severs were very inattentive and looked high..? Which was quite uncomfortable. Given they FINALLY got their liquor license, we gave this place a second try. Sat at the bar (a bit weird that the bar is physically closed off from the dining room), ordered drinks and food. The service was great, the food was delicious (we tried the Mocajete for 2), and the drinks were tasty...we'll be back! read more

Myself and my parents visited this restaurant this evening and were extremely disappointed with the food. The young lady that was our server was outstanding. Was friendly, made sure our drinks and needs were taken care of. However our orders was wrong and was not impressed with the food. I've eaten Mexican food from all over California, New Mexico, Texas. This was by far the worse tasting Mexican food that I've eaten personally. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant until they bring up the food quality and not over cooking the food. read more

What the heck happened to this place? Food still really good but service is a flop. They weren't that busy. Someone came and put chips and salsa on the table without speaking. We started eating them. Several minutes later someone took our order. Felt we would receive our drinks shortly.....was very frustrating to see staff drinking their Starbucks and socializing when we were passed the point of needing something to drink. I really love Mexican food, but this place had the worst Mexican food I ever had, the chips tasted disgusting, like they were cooked in old oil, the food itself just didn't taste right, the service was okay, but not great. I did order my food with no meat and it had meat in it. I came in on a Saturday and it wasn't that busy. Maybe I got them on a bad day. We hadn't been inside a restaurant in a year because of the pandemic. We got take out from this restaurant and we were pleasantly surprised at how good and fresh the food was! We went IN the next day. We had decided if they were trying to follow the rules (masks, distancing) we would go in. The wait staff all had on masks and tables were spaced just right. Murphy, NC can be a culinary desert on a Monday night but El Maguey was a very pleasant surprise. The service was excellent and the food was outstanding. We had Pollo Ranchero and Molcajete for our entrees. Both dishes were very good. 5 stars! Highly recommended! read more
