Chips and salsa on the table
    Nicole G.

We stopped in at Anejo for the first time, because we love Mexican food and trying new restaurants. Having been to dozens of this style of restaurant, I would say overall that it was average - not bad, but nothing impressive either. The chairs are really cool and decorative and the dining area and bathrooms are clean. The service was good and the food was pretty typical. My husband ordered the fajitas, and they did NOT come out fresh and sizzling - they were room temperature at best and there was very little meat. The kids meals, on the other hand, were huge! It was the first time my 10-year-old couldn't finish her kids meal plate. My lunch special was pretty yummy - grilled chicken and shrimp with beans, rice, and a generous sized guacamole salad. If you live in this town or are visiting and have a hankering for Mexican food, by all means, stop in! But if another Mexican place sets up shop in town, they may have to step up their game a bit to not lose business.

    Burrito, Taco, and enchilada

Went here when staying in shooting creek about 20 minutes away. We had no idea what to eat and decided on mexican and ended up at anejo . First impression is definitely a mexican restaurant, which i loved the authentic feel with staff speaking spanish to one another. Menu was extensive and had a ridiculous amount of options as we as create your own plate where you could pick and choose We dined-in almost immediately and received complimentary chips and salsa, which my party destroyed and loved. Staff is attentive and replaced our salsa without asking and was very helpful ordering. Waiter was also hilarious and didn't hesitate to joke with us, loved the experience. Food is cheap and portion sizes are massive for the price compared to what i'm used to. I was hungry from a day of hiking and barely finished my meal. I got a combo of a burrito, taco, and enchilada for less than $10! food was excellent and delicious. Obviously on the heavier side but who goes to a mexican restaurant for light food. Don't see how anyone couldn't like this restaurant, as I loved it and would recommend it to anyone looking for cheap eats in hayesville north carolina, especially if you're craving mexican food!

We had an excellent meal including the best chicken soup I've had in a long time with just the spice and a generous helping of avocado. Chicken fajitas (no photo, sorry) came out sizzling, stuffed poblanos filled with beef and chicken enchiladas in corn tortillas were delicious with traditional flavors. I recommend giving it a try.

    Poblanos vegetarian.

Delicious! I just had the poblanos vegetarian-hold the cheese! It's hard to find a Mexican restaurant with good options for vegans-but they several vegetarian dishes that would be easy to make vegan by holding the cheese. It was so good.

It obviously has plenty of other charms, most notably its beautiful and remote Blue Ridge mountain environment. But dining options turned out to be drab indeed. The Santo Niño tienda and restaurant was very much an exception, though. We only made it there once but should have come here for every restaurant meal we had while in the area. Based on a couple of tortas, this humble family-run spot killed it on the food. Everything was fresh as it could be, and the kitchen does not skimp on the more-expensive ingredients like avocado and meat, or any other ingredient for that matter. These were sizeable sandwiches. Lengua was tender and succulent, and the wife thought the chorizo was great, too. The tortas are served with fries that were better than they looked (which was rather Ore-Ida-ish)--piping hot with some crispiness to them. I was only a little bummed because it was only after our food was on the way that I realized that the restaurant has pozole on Sundays. Santo Niño occupies a spot in a shabby and grim strip center on the western edge of town. Don't be deterred by this. The business inside is hardly fancy, but it has a warm and comforting feel.

The entree, two chalupas, was very fresh and looked appetizing on the plate. When it ate a bit flat, it dawned on me that there was no cheese on either chalupa. The dish was in grave need of the richness and tang that cheese provides. I dumped my salsa on one chalupa and my cheese dip on the other, and the meal was saved. But it seemed I had provided a lot of aid to an entree that should have been self-sufficient. 3 stars. The side of rice was ample, and packed a pungent dose of annato (achiote), the ingredient that gives Spanish rice its characteristic color and flavor pop. 4 stars. The bathroom was pretty clean, and the interior was festive and welcoming, 4 stars. Service was great, 5 stars.

It could have been really good but it was so not good! The chicken was similar to something you would get out of a bag of chicken fajitas one would buy in the freezer action of a grocery store. It was not cooked like fajita meat, it was reheated chicken. Nasty. Really. My husband ordered beef enchiladas, his go to when trying a new place. They were taste less and just well, meh. The waiter was lackadaisical we never received a refill and never received a check back, we finally got up and went to the register and paid with out a receipt. Would not return It is painfully obvious that no one there has a passion for food or service. Sad really, with different management this place could be great. Lots of potential, but it just falls flat.

"No busques la suerte y te saldrá al paso"("Don't look for luck and it will come your way.")…read moreMexican Proverb We weren't looking for tacos when touring downtown Blairsville, but definitely got lucky coming across this fun little restaurant. A visit to Lucky's Taqueria & Cantina begins with its playful exterior. It's bold colors and signage stand out, as does a bicycle perched above the entrance. The eclectic decor continues throughout the restaurant, creating an energetic and lively ambience. We sat at the bar, looked over the cocktail menu, and decided on thier Skinny Margarita and Reposado Old Fashioned. Both were delicious, well balanced cocktails. Lucky's has a good list of tacos, from Barbacoa to chicken to fish to shrimp, and fortunately for this cigar smoking, beer drinking vegetarian, they had two veggie tacos available. I had the Chipotle Butternut Squash Taco (Chipotle roasted butternut squash, pickled golden raisins, cashew crema, cilantro.) and the Seared Tofu Taco (Seared marinated tofu, pineapple pico, cilantro) Both were outstanding, with the Squash taco being my favorite. Along with tacos, the menu includes appetizers, soups and salads, tortas, enchiladas, burritos and other unique entrees. My girlfriend, who loves tacos, actually decided against tacos to order the Tostones con Puerco, an appetizer dish that included three large green plantains topped with smoked pork, garlic sauce, crema, guajillo sauce, queso fresco, and cilantro. Service at the bar was great, prices were very reasonable for the product. If Lucky's wasn't 90 minutes away from me, they would be getting all of my lunch money, for that reason I'm not sure if it is good luck or bad luck that they aren't closer, but we will definitely be back!

We had fun on Trivia Night first time. Service is good, but can be a little sparse when they are busy. The tacos: Butternut squash is tasty and spicy, Brisket (2 of our party got sick after eating these ), Gringo supreme is good but the sour cream is overloaded and kills the taste of the other ingredients. Tacos are around $4-$6 each. Some in our party didn't like how the flour shell was dry and crispy instead of soft. Drinks are adequate. We may try again on our next visit, but we will be careful what we order.
