When we first walked in there was a lady at the counter cashing somebody out & she just looks at us and doesn't say a word. Somebody else came up to sit us down few minutes later but they set us down without menus. The server came up a few minutes later and asked what we wanted and we asked if we can have some menus first. Then we had to ask for a drink menu so we could order some adult beverages as well as they're not on the regular menu. Our server was forgetful we've had to ask him a couple times for things that we asked previously for. I ordered the empanada supremas and everything was good besides the chicken seemed like it had been sitting out as it was harder and a lot cooler than the rest of the empanadas. Ladies bathroom was nasty. The toilet seats look like people chew on them. They had no hand soap but I used bottle of dish soap that was nasty. The paper towels were in a big bundle but they were wet because they weren't in the paper towel holder but sitting on counter. read more

Totally fine Mexican food for being in a small mountain town. With the complimentary chips & salsa, you get only one salsa & it has a smoky flavor to it. It was different, but good. The man that took my order on phone was very rude took the Order and slammed phone down at 12:56. My Fiancé went to pick up order before 1:30. The man didn't know of the Order or have it ready. This is by far the worst experience I have ever had. The server didn't know anything and the margarita came out sweet with no taste of tequila... I would bet my life it was made with wine. When going to the bar for a different drink, the bartender acted confused. The margaritas were in a premixed container. I talked him through making a drink. Upon checking out with my bill in hand, the cashier changed the prices because he said the drink was a double. How did all the prices change!?!?! He proceded to argue with me. I told him to just charge my card so we could leave... OVER a $15 increase from the original bill. He still argued and we almost left without paying... Probably his goal. I speak very little Spanish, but when I said to our server, "tu tienes una salsa mas caliente?" I was not prepared for what he was going to give me. He brought out two other salsas; one was slightly hotter than the original that came with the chips. The second didn't have much of a flavor, but it was on fire ! This place is awesome! I don't think our server expected the three gringoes to like hot sauce, and to be fair, Thom didn't. But Dale and I both do and he nailed it. We own a small place in Murphy, we didn't realize that we would need a reservation for any place tonight in such a small town, (although it is is a Friday and Valentines Day) We were headed somewhere-else and decided we wanted Mexican food. We were not disappointed, the chips and chori- queso was delicious. The margarita was perfect and the Dos XX was frothy and frozen, exactly like my husband likes it. Worst service! I would happily drive to another Mexican restaurant and even the Monte Alban in andrews instead of coming here. We waited for 30 minutes for a table while they sat table after table of guests that arrived after us... and each time we asked about it they said they were cleaning a table and setting it up for us. Sunday, April 28, 2019, 515 pm: Server Martin. Martin greeted, sat us and brought or ice tea. Sherrie order chimichanga. I made the mistake of ordering the "Hombre Grande". The name should tell you how it was going to go. When Martin brought the food, he had Sherrie's plate in his right hand and a tray in his left. The tray actually was my plate, about 18" wide. It had chalupa, enchilada, taco, guacamole salad, chili Relleno, rice and beans. See photo. We have left overs. Service was good, no it was exceptional. Food was super. Not many folks were there. Inedible. I spit my food out. I didn't get a good vibe from the get go. But I thought we'd give this place a chance. It was dark and dingy, the wait staff didn't make our experience any better. When I received my food. I took a few bites and my chicken tasted like Chinese chicken, it was rubbery and definitely not fresh. The cheese and beans has a real funky flavor I can't describe. I couldn't eat any of it. It took our waiter 15 minutes to accept our payment and watched as we signed the bill. Overall just a horrible experience and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone read more

Very middle of the road type of place. The place is rather antiquated. But it has a lot of room for large parties. The menu is huge with a great deal of options, almost too many options. I was there on a Sunday wanting a margarita but they do not serve alcohol on Sundays. The sweet tea was actually pretty good but there again I am not a southerner so... I had the chicharon and beef taco. It was good. It came with chopped onion and cilantro on the side for me to add to taste. Maybe some tomatoes would have been nice. Over all the taco was good. I didn't eat the rice of the re-fried beans. The bathroom was a hot mess. Dirty and unkept. Not sure I'd eat here again. read more

The waitress brought out the wrong order. When my wife's friend told the waitress that the order was wrong, she got angry. She didn't refill drinks for the rest of the meal. As my wife was paying the bill the waitresses came up and cursed my wife in Spanish. Calling my wife and her friend witches. In front of my 8 year old daughter. First time to try it out - wanted to go to Chowder House next door but they are no longer open on Mondays, so tried out Monte Alban. Not very busy at 5. We wanted 10 minutes at the front for someone to serve us. When she did show up, she couldn't find any menus to give us. We waited another 10 minutes to receive our water. Finally, menus were provided. I ordered the chicken soup, my husband the burrito special. My soup was great and a large portion - took a go cup home for a second meal. Lots of chicken in it and the taste was on spot. My husband indicated that the burrito was just so-so, he didn't eat it all, which is really odd for him. Waited a long time after asking for our check twice, and a go cup. Finally arrived. They really need to step up the service and hostess area. read more

Beef Taco salad is what I always get. The service is spot on! Servers don't seem to be limited to certain tables. Any server who sees a need (like a drink refill) will quickly take care of you. I've always been greeted & seated immediatelyand my order always comes out quickly. Plus the chips & dip they give you as soon as you're seated are freshly made and really good. I have to remind myself they aren't the main course or I will fill up on them! I highly recommend this restaurant! All their locations are excellant. read more

So much food...I didn't order from the menu as I'm familiar with Mexican food. I ordered three carne asada tacos, sliced avocado, and, of course, rice and beans no cheese. The meat was extremely tender. It was served on a huge plate with lots of little accompaniments, freshly chopped onions and cilantro, salsa, lemon slices, and more. Service was excellent and I was served quickly. The decor is festive and I enjoyed it. Great sweet tea. I will definitely go back for more but will order one not three tacos! I like a plate of rice and beans, an avocado, fresh lemon, and a pile of tortillas...the cook will gladly accommodate simple requests. I had to give them five stars. They have improved their salsa. It actually tasted good and had a delicous flavor of roasted peppers or something which made it stand out from the usuall blender tomatos that most places server up as salsa. I travel... alot! I'm on the road 3 weeks out of the month so I look for hidden treasures. My first experience was great. The food was fresh and most importantly HOT (with heat not spice though I love spicy food too). I am totally put off by less than Luke warm food being set down in front of me. I like my food so hot with heat I can barely take the first bite. The service was prompt, knowledgeable and very courteous. The chips were warm and fresh and the salsa...OMG. Some of the best salsa I've ever had. It was nice and thick and sticks to the chips. I didn't drop any. For dinner, I had the "La Changa" which is two flour tortillas stuffed with shredded chicken, covered in melted cheese and topped with lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and guacamole. It is served with refried beans covered in melted cheese as well. It was great. Tasty and very flavor full. Served with a very large Dos Equis and I walked out not only stuffed, but very satisfied. On vacation in the area. It was clear upon arrival that we were in for a good meal. Tables were available, but the restaurant was busy. Our server, Pepe, took great care of us. He was speedy, courteous and attentive. The two little ones with us ordered off the kiddy menu, a mix of Mexican and American choices. Three adults ordered a combination, a special and pollo mole. The portions were generous and arrived to the table quickly. The mole was spiced perfectly. The tamale (part of the combo) was tasty, too, but honestly, all the food was delicious.
