What a festive restaurant! Very nice, fast service. Their medium margaritas are huge! The cheese enchiladas were beyond filling! Chips and salsa were also very good. What a nice, friendly place! read more

We had fajitas today for lunch. We've been eating at this place for almost 9 years, and have always enjoyed the food....service, not so good. Anyway, there was no seasoning flavor in the fajitas, very bland and tasteless. So, we poured salt to give some flavor and ate it. Our bill was about $45.00 for this tasteless food. It was also too greasy. I spoke to the manager about this, and he insisted that there was seasoning put in the fajitas. I insisted that there was not, and asked him if he could discount the bill. He had a very bad attitude, and refused to take anything off the bill; once again insisting there was seasoning. I told him that his attitude was terrible, paid the bill, and told him we would never return again. He just shrugged his shoulders and didn't say a word. read more

Used to eat here all the time, never again. Service wasnt bad but was slow. Reason I will never eat there again is that I was being overcharged everytime I was in there. Every visit my bill would go up in price, menu prices hadn't changed. Had the audacity to send the cleaning lady out the door asking me "where their tip was" after being charged over $20 for the same meal I had paid $11.38 for multiple days in the same month. Absolutely ludicrous. read more

When we first walked in there was a lady at the counter cashing somebody out & she just looks at us and doesn't say a word. Somebody else came up to sit us down few minutes later but they set us down without menus. The server came up a few minutes later and asked what we wanted and we asked if we can have some menus first. Then we had to ask for a drink menu so we could order some adult beverages as well as they're not on the regular menu. Our server was forgetful we've had to ask him a couple times for things that we asked previously for. I ordered the empanada supremas and everything was good besides the chicken seemed like it had been sitting out as it was harder and a lot cooler than the rest of the empanadas. Ladies bathroom was nasty. The toilet seats look like people chew on them. They had no hand soap but I used bottle of dish soap that was nasty. The paper towels were in a big bundle but they were wet because they weren't in the paper towel holder but sitting on counter. read more

Food and service. Food was flavorless and awful. The staff are in your face and don't give you a chance to look over the menu. This used to be a good place to go but they have went downhill over the past 18 months. read more

Service Ana food was great! I really like the artwork on the walls. Big improvement since the epidemic is over!

Totally fine Mexican food for being in a small mountain town. With the complimentary chips & salsa, you get only one salsa & it has a smoky flavor to it. It was different, but good. Our cowboy fajitas were perfectly fine, but could've been seasoned more. Single fajitas are enough to feed two people. read more

Had lunch here and the food here was great, the salsa is awesome! Staff is friendly and the place is clean. Recommend if in the area.

This is by far the worst experience I have ever had. The server didn't know anything and the margarita came out sweet with no taste of tequila... I would bet my life it was made with wine. When going to the bar for a different drink, the bartender acted confused. The margaritas were in a premixed container. I talked him through making a drink. Upon checking out with my bill in hand, the cashier changed the prices because he said the drink was a double. How did all the prices change!?!?! He proceded to argue with me. I told him to just charge my card so we could leave... OVER a $15 increase from the original bill. He still argued and we almost left without paying... Probably his goal. I have NEVER had this horrible of an experience. Please save yourself the hassle and do not ruin your vacation stopping here. Wish I didn't. read more

I speak very little Spanish, but when I said to our server, "tu tienes una salsa mas caliente?" I was not prepared for what he was going to give me. He brought out two other salsas; one was slightly hotter than the original that came with the chips. The second didn't have much of a flavor, but it was on fire ! This place is awesome! I don't think our server expected the three gringoes to like hot sauce, and to be fair, Thom didn't. But Dale and I both do and he nailed it. I fully intend to return to Murphy and this little gem of a restaurant is on my do over list. read more

The man that took my order on phone was very rude took the Order and slammed phone down at 12:56. My Fiancé went to pick up order before 1:30. The man didn't know of the Order or have it ready. She got the Order at 1:42. My Fiancé had trouble the time before. Same guy same results. We are done eating here due to the rude cash register attendant. No one should have to deal with a person like this. He is only making the other Mexican Restaurants More Business. read more

Most Mexican restaurants are the same. They all have the same decor, the same menus, etc. Monte Alban isn't much different, but it's good for what it is. It's decent Americanized Mexican food. The service varies with each visit, but usually isn't bad. If you want Mexican food in the middle of the mountains, Monte Alban isn't a bad option. read more

We own a small place in Murphy, we didn't realize that we would need a reservation for any place tonight in such a small town, (although it is is a Friday and Valentines Day) We were headed somewhere-else and decided we wanted Mexican food. We were not disappointed, the chips and chori- queso was delicious. The margarita was perfect and the Dos XX was frothy and frozen, exactly like my husband likes it. We shared the Chile Colorado with rice and beans. Our server Jeremíah, asked if he could practice his Spanish with us, great service and food . We will be back read more

Worst service! I would happily drive to another Mexican restaurant and even the Monte Alban in andrews instead of coming here. We waited for 30 minutes for a table while they sat table after table of guests that arrived after us... and each time we asked about it they said they were cleaning a table and setting it up for us. Finally we left, with very hungry kids, and I'll never go back. read more

Started with great salsa and chips. Their queso cheese dip was awesome. The tacos were stuffed with cheese as well. Excellent service and extremely clean. We will be back for sure. read more

24 dollars spent on the most disappointing meal in years. 8 dollars 4 a cup of rice in chicken broth with about 2 tablespoon of chicken. Absolutely nothing else! Lime slice toss in the plastic carrying bag un wrapped. It was unsanitary and disgusting i have eaten here for 16+ years and will NEVER recommen this place or eat from there again! I tip 4 dollars not looking in the tied bag . NASTY! read more

Sunday, April 28, 2019, 515 pm: Server Martin. Martin greeted, sat us and brought or ice tea. Sherrie order chimichanga. I made the mistake of ordering the "Hombre Grande". The name should tell you how it was going to go. When Martin brought the food, he had Sherrie's plate in his right hand and a tray in his left. The tray actually was my plate, about 18" wide. It had chalupa, enchilada, taco, guacamole salad, chili Relleno, rice and beans. See photo. We have left overs. Service was good, no it was exceptional. Food was super. Not many folks were there. The atmosphere was extremely nice. And you cannot get a better waiter. He was funny and a pleasant person to be around. read more

Inedible. I spit my food out. I didn't get a good vibe from the get go. But I thought we'd give this place a chance. It was dark and dingy, the wait staff didn't make our experience any better. When I received my food. I took a few bites and my chicken tasted like Chinese chicken, it was rubbery and definitely not fresh. The cheese and beans has a real funky flavor I can't describe. I couldn't eat any of it. It took our waiter 15 minutes to accept our payment and watched as we signed the bill. Overall just a horrible experience and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone read more

First time visitor ... I ordered the Enchilada Supremas platter ... I wasn't impressed because it was tasteless. I've had better tastier food at Taco Belle for 1/2 the price read more

Very middle of the road type of place. The place is rather antiquated. But it has a lot of room for large parties. The menu is huge with a great deal of options, almost too many options. I was there on a Sunday wanting a margarita but they do not serve alcohol on Sundays. The sweet tea was actually pretty good but there again I am not a southerner so... I had the chicharon and beef taco. It was good. It came with chopped onion and cilantro on the side for me to add to taste. Maybe some tomatoes would have been nice. Over all the taco was good. I didn't eat the rice of the re-fried beans. The bathroom was a hot mess. Dirty and unkept. Not sure I'd eat here again. read more

Do NOT reccomend. Used to be a regular here. Food used to be great, became very subpar. Had a very bad experience with a waiter. Began overcharging me everytime he was my waiter, prices were normal when I had other help. He kept marking up prices on the same things I had always ordered. The final time I went I didn't leave a tip because they overcharged me $16 on the same $12 order I always had. Paid $28 for a $12 dish. Then he had the audacity to come outside as I was leaving to ask me where his tip was. I told him it was in his cash drawer where he had overcharged me multiple times. Never went back, never will. Do NOT reccomend. read more

Do not eat here. Unless you like being treated terribly, cursed, or don't mind someone attempting to degrade you in a language they don't think you understand. The waitress brought out the wrong order. When my wife's friend told the waitress that the order was wrong, she got angry. She didn't refill drinks for the rest of the meal. As my wife was paying the bill the waitresses came up and cursed my wife in Spanish. Calling my wife and her friend witches. In front of my 8 year old daughter. She apparently didn't realize my wife is Mexican and could understand her. All of this because the waitress messed up the order. read more

First time to try it out - wanted to go to Chowder House next door but they are no longer open on Mondays, so tried out Monte Alban. Not very busy at 5. We wanted 10 minutes at the front for someone to serve us. When she did show up, she couldn't find any menus to give us. We waited another 10 minutes to receive our water. Finally, menus were provided. I ordered the chicken soup, my husband the burrito special. My soup was great and a large portion - took a go cup home for a second meal. Lots of chicken in it and the taste was on spot. My husband indicated that the burrito was just so-so, he didn't eat it all, which is really odd for him. Waited a long time after asking for our check twice, and a go cup. Finally arrived. They really need to step up the service and hostess area. read more

Beef Taco salad is what I always get. The service is spot on! Servers don't seem to be limited to certain tables. Any server who sees a need (like a drink refill) will quickly take care of you. I've always been greeted & seated immediatelyand my order always comes out quickly. Plus the chips & dip they give you as soon as you're seated are freshly made and really good. I have to remind myself they aren't the main course or I will fill up on them! I highly recommend this restaurant! All their locations are excellant. read more

I had to give them five stars. They have improved their salsa. It actually tasted good and had a delicous flavor of roasted peppers or something which made it stand out from the usuall blender tomatos that most places server up as salsa. My Pollo dish was pretty good the chicken and spinache were good together. read more

They give large portions however food was sub par. They got 3 of our orders wrong. The food was Taco Bell quality. Left disappointed.

So much food...I didn't order from the menu as I'm familiar with Mexican food. I ordered three carne asada tacos, sliced avocado, and, of course, rice and beans no cheese. The meat was extremely tender. It was served on a huge plate with lots of little accompaniments, freshly chopped onions and cilantro, salsa, lemon slices, and more. Service was excellent and I was served quickly. The decor is festive and I enjoyed it. Great sweet tea. I will definitely go back for more but will order one not three tacos! I like a plate of rice and beans, an avocado, fresh lemon, and a pile of tortillas...the cook will gladly accommodate simple requests. This little restaurant is always busy, so that says something, doesn't it? read more

Nah, better Mexican restaurant just down the street that is so much better. We used to dine here a lot but the food went down hill in quality. Beans would be cracked on top and food was warm. Also if you get an order to go, 9 times out 10, they get something wrong. Nice people, food is blah! read more

The food was bland. And they messed up three out of four orders. The guacamole was surprisingly good quality.

We always eat at this place when we are in town. No greasy food and take out is very easy and fast.

Keep driving. Stopped in for lunch today after rafting. Place was creepy, food horrible. Enchiladas came out cold and sauce tasted like ketchup. My daughter said her chicken tasted like chinese chicken. Neither of us ate our meals. Staff didnt ask if we needed anything. Waitstaff unfriendly - overall terrible experience. read more

Seems that this place is closed or has been replaced by Anejo Grill? Did a drive-by and decided to hit the nearby Ribs place instead.

I travel... alot! I'm on the road 3 weeks out of the month so I look for hidden treasures. My first experience was great. The food was fresh and most importantly HOT (with heat not spice though I love spicy food too). I am totally put off by less than Luke warm food being set down in front of me. I like my food so hot with heat I can barely take the first bite. The service was prompt, knowledgeable and very courteous. The chips were warm and fresh and the salsa...OMG. Some of the best salsa I've ever had. It was nice and thick and sticks to the chips. I didn't drop any. For dinner, I had the "La Changa" which is two flour tortillas stuffed with shredded chicken, covered in melted cheese and topped with lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and guacamole. It is served with refried beans covered in melted cheese as well. It was great. Tasty and very flavor full. Served with a very large Dos Equis and I walked out not only stuffed, but very satisfied. After the long drive from Charlotte, I really needed a good meal. Give it a shot and post your thoughts! :-) read more
