Service is fantastic. We shared the fajitas for two and while they weren't the best, they were good and plenty. Plenty meaning, enough food for us to both eat an entire second meal. The beef in the fajitas is cooked extremely well done in sliver strips and had zero flavor. So if you're looking for plenty of food that you can doctor up yourself, this place has it. I had a spicy margarita and it was the best I've had in BG. And I try to get one every Mexican restaurant I go to. We also had the chorizo queso and it was great! Been to visit three times in the last six weeks, I do not understand any negative reviews. Food is delicious, service stellar, in a mid priced restaurant I would rarely give a five. I read in reviews criticizing some things? II did not see any of that. Granted I did not have anything from the bar. The wait staff was stellar. The manager checked in on us. Wow! My fiance and I were out in Bowling Green, Kentucky on a roadtrip on May 16, 2023. After begging him to go to this restaurant all day from finding it on a 'restaurants near me' search I had done, he finally gave in and we went. On google it had a 4.2 star review so I trusted this would be a good place to have dinner. We were seated very quickly and our waiter's name was Lucas who came and got our drink orders very quickly. For my drink, I had a margarita, and my fiance had a diet coke that arrived in almost a pitcher sort of glass which I was very impressed by because my fiance drinks a lot of diet. The chips and salsa were absolutely delicious! I observed how the silverware had a short little tie of yarn around it which I liked a lot because it made me feel their silverware was very clean. I ordered a Lone Star burrito with steak and no black beans. When it came out, there was verde salsa and cilantro on it. I absolutely LOVED it! In terms of price to quality of food, I feel it's right on because the food is just really great! The service was very fast and our waiter was very polite. All in all, I have told my fiance multiple times now, if we ever find ourselves in Bowling Green again, this is where we will be eating! read more

Everything was great, staff was on point, clean was perfect. My only issue is the prices!!! OMG WHEN HAS 3 very very small street tacos (steak cilantro onion) been $17? I can't even believe it. They definitely weren't enough to fill us up, we ordered 3 each. Bc the meal is just that 3 small tacos. No beans no rice. And heck of a price tag. We ended up going to the gas station next door and eating chicken sandwiches under the warmer. Which even I thought was a better deal. It's not like the tacos were even "oh so good" either just plain and basic. Shots of patron are $11 each as well! Bring fat wallet to afford this place. But not too bad of taste. Not the best either. Excellent to-go service. Live music, excellent decor & convenient location for gas & to jump right back onto freeway. Driving back to Kentucky in horse trailer so easy parking also. Shell less than is less than a mile away w/ Diesel & fresh water to refill the horse bucket. Ordered a delicious Fajita Chimichanga w/ a wonderful queso cheese sauce & seasoned beef. It looked like the menu picture. Tasty hot sauce & salsa. The Carne Asada tacos did not look like the 'street tacos' picture & were large, not so tasty either. Worst service ever ! I ordered Buffalo wings and it took them almost 30 minutes because they were busy. The waitress had such an attitude too about them taking forever to come out of the kitchen. Fransico provide prompt and courteous service. We didn't have a long wait for seating or food. The servings, included drinks, we larger than normal. The food was delicious! Have been here a few times. Tonight she Had enchiladas suiza I tried the octopus tacos. Here problem. They need a menu make over. And more help. Menu is ridiculous it's pages and pages. Some has been great some not. These taco were not octopus was microwaved to thaw before grilling making them tough like no chew tough. I also had a crab and shrimp enchilada. Crab was full prob was it's not real and two shrimp. Lack of help but that's everywhere right now. read more

The food was so so flavor-wise, portions were smaller than a lot of Mexican restaurants I've dined at. We were with a large party. I felt sorry for the server. He needed more training and a second server to assist with our party. It took forever to get our food and I am not sure how much of that was the kitchen and how much could have been him having trouble putting in all the orders by himself. When it came time to get the check we had to ask 4 or 5 times before he finally remembered. Then he would bring one check but not the others. I have been in his shoes and know it can be stressful if you don't have an excellent memory. The margarita was great. I tipped well hoping he was on a learning curve. I would possibly try this place down the road if I was staying at the Clarion hotel again but not necessarily go out of my way to come back. read more

The best! They have the BEST salsa east of California and North East of Mexico!!! We use to get salsa this good in California. We moved to Tennessee over 3 years ago and havent found anyone that can make good chunky tasty salsa. We found El Maguey in Bowling Green and have been making the drive for good food and tasty salsa. As a matter of fact every time we go, we buy salsa to bring back with us. I bought back four mason jars full back today. Today we both had the Gringo Taco's, and substituted fries for the rice. My wife had Carnitas and I had Asada. I think you can't go wrong with anything you order. El Maguey also has a full bar with specials during happy hour and 99 cent tequila shots on Fridays. (Horrible place) I found a hair in my food and the heavyset guy was very rude and nasty about it. Telling me how convenient you're almost done with your food and we don't have anyone with long hair here. I was not asking for anything for free I was just letting him know but he got very rude and nasty. I will never step foot in this dump again. Went here last Friday night and the service was very sub par (and the place was not busy). Once seated it took us ~15 minutes to even get our drinks ordered and then another ~15 minutes to get them and have our food ordered. When we finally got the food, and after eating/getting the plates removed from the table, it took another 30 minutes to even get the check to leave. It was our first time visiting this restaurant and I can assure you it will be our last. No sense of urgency from the staff whatsoever. read more

Four of us went for dinner there and got a pitcher of margaritas. Food was good and service was great. But when we got the bill there was a $2.00 charge for each glass that came with the margaritas. So not only were we charged for a pitcher of margaritas, we got charged $8.00 for the glasses to drink it with. I find that a rip off $2.00 to get a glass with a salt rim and ice cubes. What's next a $2.00 charge per person for silverware and napkins? Definitely won't be coming back here again. I hate places that sneak in fees for more money. read more

We got seated immediately and our waitress Hailey (who was absolutely wonderful!) got us started with our orders. I ordered the Chile verde and my fiancé ordered the fajitas. Food was good, service was good.. what wasn't good is I was paying cash, I left a tip on the table, I get to the counter (never received a bill) and she told me it would be $45 for (2 people's lunch) well, I paid it, as I never looked at the prices and didn't care to. My husband mixes his orders...sometimes he orders off the menu and sometimes he enjoys the $.99 Tuesday tacos (chicken/beef/hard/soft shell) or the $1.99 Tuesday burrito (beef/chicken)...so good to eat! ...and did I mention the $1.99 Tuesday margaritas? I've been eating Mexican & Tex-Mex for 40 years, everywhere from Laredo, San Antonio, Colorado, New Mexico, New England, to various locales in Western Europe, and I can assure you that El Maguey ranks among the best for "comfort food" style Mexican. The feather in their cap is that I discovered items on the menu that I've not seen before. We went for the Sunday brunch and were a bit trepidatious from the outset, since BG has a glut of Mexican restaurants and this one has sprung up in the old Denny's building. They've made a commendable effort at changing the appearance, but it still looks like a converted Denny's. From the outside anyway. Inside is a different story. There is no sign that this has ever been anything other than what it is; a welcoming, comfortable Mexican food restaurant. The menu surprises on our visit were tres leches pancakes and a breakfast chimichanga (admittedly just a fried breakfast burrito, but I've never seen it done before). The stack of three pancakes was so large and rich, my breakfast companion could only finish a third of it. She didn't even get to attempt the sweet, fried plantains scattered atop the stack. The breakfast chimichanga was stuffed with egg & chorizo, and was heavy on the chorizo (as it should be). It was smothered in melted queso fresco and came with sweet fried plantains, rice, and beans. The queso took the crunch out of the chimichanga but gave the tortilla a new density; firmer than a regular tortilla. I quite liked it. To top it off, the service was just the right balance of attentive without being intrusive. It's safe to say I have found my new "go-to" for Mexican food in BG. read more

Don't call in and order to pick up!! I placed my order over the phone, and when I went to pick they claimed they never got their order and I didn't call. However I showed them the number on my phone that I called and spoke to someone, and they said that was their correct phone number. The guy at the register rain in my order twice, ended up re-making one of the orders that was incorrect. And I still never got what I asked for!
