The chips were stale. the salsa and my chicken tacos mexicano were about as flavorless as it could be even with the onions and cilantro. No seasonings - i could only detect salt in the pico. The pico was flavorfull so it went on my tacos to add flavor. Whats wrong with some taco seasonongs? Cumin? Oregano ? Not even hot sauce on thr tables of anykind. The food was really not up to par in any sense of the word. 1. Huarache de pastor : the meat was wayyy to sweet, I've had good pastor but this one was exceeding the sweetness of a normal good one. Apart from that in the middle of eating it it's like they dumped the spiciest salsa they had in one bite, mind you the rest of it was just sweet with no spicy mess whatsoever. 2. I ordered a Torta de Asada, I got a Torta de milanesa de pollo... order wrong aside it was reasonably good, but the fries had no salt whatsoever. 3. Ordered 2 aguas de Jamaica, got 2 aguas de horchata. Fair enough whatever I enjoy horchata too. This was the worst part of the meal, I'm not sure what kind of recipe or premade powder they have but something is wrong. It had a sourish taste and nothing like what real horchata tastes like. It didn't even have resemblance to the fake pre made powder stuff you can buy. All I can really say is unless they improve their standards and or quality I would not recommend this place. read more

You know what?! This was a good experience and I see no reason to not get five stars. It's super hard to find good Mexican food in this area as most restaurants I've noticed take shortcuts and use cheaper ingredients, the flavor just isn't there. From the staff, to the food to the drinks everything was great. Orlando and Veronica manager the bar and entire restaurant but no one was left waiting for anything. They were on point and on time. I'm usually a little reluctant to get a house margarita because typically they use cheap out of the bottle sour mix and I can't stand it. They make their sour mix in house daily and it is absolutely delicious. At 2:00 you even get two for one. Perfectly balanced. Oh and the michelitos they were making looked amazing! I had the shredded chicken chimichanga which is enough to feed an army so obviously I have leftovers for lunch tomorrow. They even have hot sauce and even hotter sauce which is just to my liking, just ask. They're not cutting corners here. Good authentic Mexican food I can't wait to return. read more

I just lost my home to a fire from Hurricane Helene. I came in to eat something while taking a break cleaning up the ash. This restaurant is right next to my home. I ordered two tacos. They messed up on my order & said they would bring me another taco for the mistake. 5 mins later after I already put salsa on the mistaken taco which I thought they were giving me, and took the taco off my plate & thew it away. It was so immensely rude. I could not believe it. Apparently the waitress was embarrassed also. She blamed it on the man behind the bar. I will never eat here again. Despite the many Mexican restaurants in Dunedin, this place has remained at the top of my list. The staff is always so friendly every time I come in, and the food is as authentic as it gets. The inside has plenty of space, from booths to tables, and even a dance floor in the corner for Latin night on Friday nights (with karaoke!!) They also have a rewards punch card where you can get free margaritas and desserts after a certain amount of $ spent. They have a good happy hour with bogo margaritas and discounted beer. If you're ever in the area and looking for some authentic Mexican food, this is the place to go! read more

This is for Huarache Azteca in Dunedin. I had the fried pork Wet Burrito plate which was awesome. The burrito had pork carnitas inside. I was a bit surprised at the large amount of meat inside. Nice flavor and crunchy skin. Lots of cheese on top too. I was happy. The rice and beans were standard sides but were well made, not dry. There was a cute little lettuce and tomato salad on the plate too. Nice job. We had the free chips and salsa too, both a welcome tasty side. I deducted one star because the waitress failed to tell my plate was hot to the touch, so when I arranged the plate: yep, hot fingers. And, I had to go find my waitress to pay my bill. This review is for me only and not my wife (who dined with me) as she had a not so good experience. If she wants, she can write a review. I hate writing negative , but I felt like I had to I'm shocked this place has so many positive reviews. This was some of the worst Mexican food I've had in years- and I've been eating Mexican food while living in Asia the past few years and had some.. strange versions. This place will also try to get as much money out of you as possible... The chips, guac, salsa were basic and fine. But all the food we ordered was overwhelmingly bland and lacking flavor. My mother ordered enchiladas and the enchilada sauce tasted like water??? With like HINT of tomato. And her plate was dirty at the bottom! I had some tacos and they were under seasoned. My tamal was probably the worst tamal I've ever eaten, filled with unseasoned pork and covered in another watery sauce (not sure what it was supposed to be)? Even the hot sauces were bland? Make it make sense. Mexican food is supposed to be the opposite of bland. So the food overall left a lot to be desired. We ordered the house margaritas and I doubt there was ANY tequila in it. It tasted like water and like it came from a powdered mix? Simply awful. The service was fine... just basic, not especially friendly, but okay service. A little slow for an empty restaurant (the food came out fast tho). And frankly, I'm fine with that usually. I love a server who isn't excessively chatty. BUT, we ordered 2 kids meals and they charged one of the kids meals as an adult quesadilla when we asked specifically for a kids quesadilla. And when we asked the server, they said "Oh, we put her down for an adult quesadilla", as if they assumed that a 9 y/o who was being ordered for would get an adult quesadilla? It was just a plain tortilla with mozzarella cheese, no meat or other toppings. An "adult quesadilla"? Seems fake but okay. Instead of trying to make it right, they said "well, it's what she got..." and looked at us like... just pay your bill and get out. Completely took our "mediocre mexican food" experience to another level of feeling like we were cheated! If they had tried to make it right, it would have been a different story. But they didn't care. (The previous time my sister went, the server grabbed two jaritos sodas in a glass when her kids asked and opened them without the adult saying she wanted to order them... and they were $7 each?? Truly trying to nickel and dime you by playing off the children...) With the watery sauces and an extra charge to pay with a credit card (why???), I recommend you avoid this place. Wow--fantastic place, not just 'authentic' -- delicious and fresh, too. Basically the best food we've had in Dunedin over the course of several years' worth of visits. Everything was made from scratch and done right: they make different salsas for different types of dishes, have house made sour mix for the excellent margaritas, & flavorful and not-too-sweet jamaica and horchata drinks. The garlic shrimp (camarones al mojo de ajo) were a standout, as are the carnitas. Not to mention, they make their own flour and corn tortillas! I find myself to be picky about Mexican food. I was dying for some sopes since I didn't like the last place where I had them. Luckily enough, this place has that. Their sopes are super tasty. They thicker corn like open faced patty that they make it on. That's what makes the sopes so good. It's way thicker than a tostada & is a soft texture, not crunchy in case u want to know the difference. The steak on it was flavorful. There were three in a serving & good size. Yes, you must get it here. I also tried the huarache. It is served on a flat corn like tortilla, and it is huge. It's not like a tortilla. Check out the pic for an idea. It was with shredded pork, cactus, green onions or scallions. Jalapeños were on the side. The cactus gave it good flavor. For those that may not handle spicy, you might think it is a little bit spicy. I didnt like the shredded pork. That seemed overcooked. Never had a huarache before & now I have I'm glad I had it here. The horchata was refreshing & not overly cinnamon. The flan was great and the consistency was good, not too mooshy. I'm picky about flan too because I compare it to my mom's. This place is cool, has some mexican music playing. They have happy hour 2-7. I like it. Take out or dine in, whatever floats your boat. There's one table to sit outside if you have your dog with you. It's not shaded, but it is there. read more

Wouldn't believe us until I showed her my credit card charge. Then she admitted she wasn't paying attention and missed the order (only two other tables were occupied.) So we had to wait 15 more minutes. She never offered us the normal free chips and salsa. I Asked if we could get something while we waited for our trouble. She suggested a margarita. So we got a glass of water and a marg. As we were leaving with the marg, she ran after us to pay for it!! What?? So we got nothing for our extra wait. No napkins nor plastic utensils included. Gag! I love tacos and could live on them. These were horrible. The meat was unrecognizable. I had beef and chicken, but I could not tell what I was eating, because its all shredded into a mash. There are several El Huarache Aztecas in the area. I normally eat at the one in Clearwater off route 19. The food there & service are excellent & authentic. Unfortunately, this Dunedin location was not very good. The tables had not been cleaned of crumbs & food smears, yet they sat us at a table covered with all this. There were 6 of us, & they brought out 2 small baskets of chips. It was really only enough chips for a few people. So we asked for more chips & they charged us. The tacos I ordered tasted ok, but they were definitely on the small side. I ordered a small lunch consisting of 2 a la carte tacos & a cup of water, which should have totaled $4.50. My initial bill I received was for over $10. The server had erroneously billed me for an additional side of rice, an additional side of beans, & a large soda. I mentioned this to someone this afternoon & they said their bill was also inflated incorrectly when they've eaten there. So....patron beware! read more
