The food and service at El Guadalajara is close to 5 stars. We have always enjoyed the food here, but repeated billing issues have made it clear that caution is needed. On a previous visit, we ordered tequila from the price card provided by our server. When the bill arrived, the charge was higher than listed. Staff told us the card was wrong and that we should pay the higher price. After we protested, they eventually reduced the charge, but it was an uncomfortable and unnecessary situation. On our most recent visit, the problems continued. We ordered a pitcher of skinny margaritas and were charged $37.00, while the regular margarita pitcher was $29.75. Nowhere on the menu -- or from the server -- was it disclosed that the skinny version carried a roughly 24% higher price. When we questioned it, the restaurant refused to accommodate our concern. To make matters worse, we were also charged for an appetizer we did not order (it was later removed after we flagged it). The food is excellent and the service is consistently strong, but in both cases the owner put the server in the middle, which is frustrating and unfair to both staff and patrons. After this latest round of pricing drama, we will not be returning. There are plenty of other good Mexican restaurants in the area. We strongly caution other patrons to check their alcohol charges carefully. The owner's practices are deceptive and unfair, and transparency and accurate billing should be a basic expectation at any restaurant. read more

We tried this place based on the recommendation of a family member. I had also read very good reviews, so we thought it would be a great place. Unfortunately, we were rather disappointed. The food was just OK. Nothing special, especially compared to other Mexican restaurants in the area. There wasn't enough flavor - everything was rather bland. It wasn't bad, just not flavorful enough for Mexican.. Service was great! Everyone was very friendly and attentive. A gentleman, I'm assuming the manager or possibly owner, even came by the table to check on us. Great job to all the staff. Inside looks like a typical Mexican restaurant with nice decor and a small bar. It wasn't very crowded when we went, so the noise level was pleasant. No complaints about the atmosphere or aesthetics of the place. Overall this restaurant was OK but not great. Three stars mainly because of the great service. read more

Horrible customer service. Did an online order they didn't even start it until I arrived. They tied the top of the bag so we didn't check to make sure everything was there. Got it home and it was missing an item. Called them and they were very rude on the phone and basically called us a liar. Extra chips and salsa were not included in order (but paid for) and the chicken nachos had no cheese and might have been 6 ounces worth of food. We ordered the cheese dip which came in a rather large bowl. The cheese dip was exquisite and for a good price! At this point I'm pretty satisfied, and then I ordered my meal.. I ordered the Happy Chicken which is chicken and rice sizzled with cheese. I was wowed by the service when my meal appeared approximately in 7 minutes. The Happy Chicken is a must get. The perfectly grilled chicken mixed with the savory cheese and rice melted in my mouth for a great combination. I was appalled by how superb the food was. I then tried the chips with salsa. As you know they aren't know for their salsa. The salsa was a little bit too watery for my taste. Overall great food for a fair price. Parking was good, lots of spots for a smaller sized restaurant. This has become my fav Mexican restaurant down the road from us. Several years ago when we tried it, it was meh at best but they have upped their game 100%. Not sure if it was a simple management/staff change or a full change in ownership. Regardless, you need to check it out. My favorite is something that's not on the menu but they're great at accommodating any requests. Because they're the only local Mexican place I'm aware of that makes their own corn tortillas, I ask for grilled chicken, raw onion and fresh cilantro on them with spicy tomatillo and lime on the side. I'm typically a flour tortilla gal but only Chuys (to my knowledge) makes them fresh and in-house. The corn ones here are made to order and are almost have a mix of flour/corn taste to me with a very soft pleasant texture. They're not dry and don't crack when picking them up. You can't beat them! Chips are fresh and served warm and the salsa is pretty on par with other local fare but nothing special like Garcia's who's is all fresh and more like pico. This is the only change I'd like to see in the near future. The Gold margaritas are wonderful and you can order them by the pitcher but you better have a driver because they don't hold back! The service is always exceptional, the atmosphere is steadily getting better as they're in the midst of upgrading with new tile, decor, etc. and it's all reasonably priced. Tried this place about a year ago after living in Franklin my whole life and I can tell you I was surprised. This is my FAVORITE Mexican restaurant in town. The food gets better each time I have it, and their staff gets even nicer! I go here at least once or twice a week. My friends all love it and they are starting trivia this Friday 9/30 at 7:00 which just makes this place even better. They usually aren't busy when we go and I hope they can grow more because who ever is going to LaHacienda down the street is missing out on true yummy Mexican food! read more

This little building, once home to the 80's pizza night known for the big screen tv, Mr. Gatti's, has been cursed since before the Gatti's moved out and Noodleriffic moved in. If the Exterior paint schemes of this building haven't been the topic for countless Franklin codes meetings, I'm sure there have been discussions of how to condemn the building and put a park where it stands. So on recommendation from a couple of friends, who we used to trust, we thought we might overlook the garish orange paint job and give el Guadalajara a try. Soon we discovered why the after church crowd at Pueblo Real will have a thirty minute wait by 12:30, whereas El Guadalajara had more staff than patrons in a dimly lit, empty restaurant. The color scheme continued inside, and while the menu had some more authentic items on it, the standard fare of speedy gonzolas and numbered combo was the rule. I had some street tacos, which were passable and authentic, but mostly greasy and bland. The rest of the family had burrito combo plates that appeared bland and whose components ran together in an indistinguishable pile of blah. All in all, I think this little building behind the Wendy's is destined to "meh" until someone knocks it down and removes the curse of the Gatti's. read more

We came on Easter Sunday for an early dinner. The service was exceptional! Our server was very attentive and paid attention to our needs. The rest of the staff was also very warm and friendly. My husband is the hardest of all to please when it comes to portions and quality. He was very happy with both. Even made a comment "There is more shrimp in this here than any other place we've been!" The service at this place is great. They tend to the tables greatly anytime I've been here. I've also had real big groups come in and we are always well taken care of and if there was an issue it was resolved promptly no questions asked. They are usually not crowded and that makes it a very convenient place if you're looking for a fast meal. The building is a bit run down but they try and keep it up as best as possible. The food is good. Not the best Mexican cuisine but, most definitely not the the worst. I really like the fact they have homemade corn tortillas, that to me makes the meal so much better. The carnitas plate is always good. Their fajitas are decent too and big enough that my wife and I usually share them. They have Pacifico beer on draft and that is one of my favorite Mexican beers. We've never had to wait for a refill on our drinks or our chips and salsa, it's there before you realize you need it. Yes, there is some 'gringo' food on the menu, but we're in middle Tennessee. Some folks around here wouldn't know authentic Mexican food if it bit them in the butt. Look through the menu, you'll find some gems.
