Oh man. The restaurant is bright and colorful, the booth was comfortable and everything looked clean. Long history with Mexican food, and this was as good as it gets in any restaurant in Texas. The Carne Asada was well cooked and perfect. The grilled jalapeño was on point and the green onion paired with every thing on the plate. Refried beans just like you want them with moist fluffy rice. There was only one lady in front of house and she is my favorite person in the building she was helpful, was nice and really made an effort to help us get the food exactly the way we wanted. The ugly hot salsa. Oh take the tums and have the hot sauce. It was amazingly good. A delicious new flavor to a loved condiment. I had the fried shrimp and cheese appetizer. Best fried shrimp I had in a long time, and the cheese was a surprising win. The desserts were expertly fried to the crunchy apex of done. Who ever is chefing the fryer needs a raise.

So good. This location has not missed yet. I get the same thing every time. El Gitano Special burrito. It's stewed pork in green sauce, rice and beans and covered in sauce, sliced jalapeños and some cheese. I always get a side of rice and beans too. I can't finish it all without being miserable but it's just as good later. My bride got the carne asada plate lunch. Perfect portion and she said it was excellent. Service is efficient and the food came out promptly. The place has a full bar and booths and tables. There is a server station in the entry which is huge and blocks the view of the inside. They should get rid of it. It's so imposing. There would be a lot more light in there if so.

Borrego was . Seriously so delicious.

My girlfriend and I came in on a random Thursday evening and this spot did not disappoint. Not only did we both enjoy our meals and drinks but our server, Adriana was so sweet! We will 100% be back!

    Inside. Very colorful.

Excellent Mexican food. Little pricy, but huge portions. Nice ambiance inside and our waitress was attentive. Nice spot in downtown Burlington.

Look at the cheese! It looks like goo I used to play with at the day care. Beyond disgusting.

How can a long time established Mexican restaurant serve such horrible nachos? Without a doubt the worst nachos I've ever had in a restaurant. The cheese was just one color, orange, and the most unappetizing orange you can imagine. My family wanted me to bring home some dinner for them, but I declined, if this restaurant can't even serve an average plate of nachos I'm afraid to try the other menu items. Our server was nice, prompt, and our nachos came out pretty fast, that is about the only thing positive I have to say. The salsa and guac were just blah, beyond boring. Then there are the restrooms, the toilet wobbled, the sink had no water pressure, only a trickle of water came out, and the towel dispenser was out of paper towels, this is in the middle of a global pandemic. This was my first, and obviously the last time in the Burlington El Gitano, I would suggest the El Gitano in Mount Vernon, I've had a better experience there.

We had to wait five minutes to see anyone at all when we walked in and rang the bell. We were not shown to a table, our hostess pointed to the table and said, "Go-ahead." We had two filthy cups of water. My drink order was skipped entirely and the server rushed off hastily. The food came and while most of it was edible it was super low quality. I ordered vegetarian fajitas, and the broccoli appeared colorless, almost grey and squishy. I picked around and chose to eat just the carrots and they were raw and crunchy. I couldn't eat it. No one came by for the next ten minutes. When we did see the servers they were very pleasant, which is the only reason for the second star. I would choose anyplace else.

The food is consistently excellent. I like to share fiery spinach dip or the epic pretzel! I crave the zesty asian shrimp, caesar salad, smash burger and street style carnitas tacos! The fries are now cooked in tallow and the tartar sauce is a perfect accompaniment! I go at least weekly. The bartenders make amazing craft cocktails. They have happy hour all day on Mondays and 1 to 6 the other weekdays. And where can you get a Coors Light for $3!

Our waitress was timely and very friendly. Very informative on any menu questions we had. Our food was very good! I had the carnivore plate, and my girlfriend had the bruschetta. Both were very good! This is the second place I've been to recently that has had carnivore options on their menu. Their drink menu is very extensive, they have a great tap list, and a great mocktail list. The only reason they are getting a 4 instead of a 5 is that they were out of several of the ingredients to make their mocktails they had listed on their menu and we went their specifically for the mocktail menu because my girlfriend can not have alcohol at this time. Great place, great food, and great service though.

So when I'm in Mountain Vernon, I have to stop by this place and have a scoop or a pint to go. The staff at the front is usually very friendly and courteous. They seem to hire teenagers or young adults and they are on top of it. The pricing is reasonable, the ingredients are fresh. First time ordering a burger here, I got the junior cheeseburger with onion rings and huckleberry milkshake. Milk shake came right out and yummy. The burger took a while. Recommended!

We were in town for the first time, and my husband was looking up dinner places. The name of this…read moreplace excited him so much that he decided to surprise me by not telling me where we were going. He could not be more hype about an average diner called 'Big Scoop'. The area has some parking spots, but when we arrived, all the parking spaces and all the tables were taken. They were quite busy for a Wednesday evening. When we arrived, we had no idea what to do. Do we sit ourselves? Do we wait to be seated? Do we place an order at the counter and then sit? There was no signage and no greeting to inform us. So we stood there, feeling silly and out of place, for a good few minutes, before one adult staff member approached the counter to punch an order into a computer and literally said to us, 'I don't have time to talk to customers right now, sorry.' Ooooookay we'll just keep standing here. Eventually, our waitress/savior Kate greeted us, sat us at a table, and gave us menus. She was younger, upbeat, kind, and apologetic for the confusion. We looked over the menu, and a third staff member came by to take our order. I ordered the Big Scoop cheeseburger basket with fries & my husband ordered the hot ham & cheese with fries. The hot ham & cheese was your average grilled cheese with a protein. Nothing special. The burger was good, but nothing special there either. You'll notice that the other half of the menu is all. ice. cream. Just options and options of different ways to order your ice cream; the flavors are listed on the wall, not on the menu. They are happy to make any changes or customizations to your ice cream order. IMO the menu was overwhelming with no easy way to sort or compare options, so it needs an overhaul in the way it's presented. We ended up getting the #13, Sweet Superstitions, with the flavors Moose Tracks & chocolate peanut butter ice cream scoops. Again, nothing special here; the two cherries promised in the menu was just one cherry cut in half, and the peanuts were stale. The fudge wasn't hot either. For a place called Big Scoop, we got pretty small scoops of ice cream. When we checked out at the counter, Kate helped us out again. She was very encouraging and was so excited to have us in town for the tulip festival. I hope Kate gets a raise or goes far in life! Overall, a fun memory but an underwhelming experience in terms of service and flavor.
