Just received my order and I was really disappointed with it. I ordered the shrimp burrito bowl and it had almost no flavor at all. There was barely any rice, and the shrimp tasted like it was boiled or possibly pre-cooked shrimp that was just reheated. I tried adding sauces, limes and salt but there was not helping the horrible texture and taste. I was really excited to try the shrimp, so it was a big letdown.On a positive note, the steak burrito my husband ordered was actually great. Unfortunately, my meal really fell short in comparison. I also didn't receive the pickled carrots and jalapeños that were supposed to come with the order, and the side sauces were extremely small. I think I've been coming here for over 30 years. They used to have a three dollar something taco dinner inflation foods good they've added shrimp since I've been here and points and it looks like they have a pre-order that they're about to set up welcome to 2025. Went back to give them another chance. Told the cashier I wanted everything listed on the menu on my nachos. Still came back missing some of the toppings. Cook claimed he didn't know when he was standing literally next to the cashier when I was placing my order. Told them the toppings were missing then they finally added them on my plate. Shouldn't have to repeat myself that much just to get my order correct. I also wanted soup but didn't get it because the cashier told me they only have it in a 32 ounce container. Then when I walk up to the other side of the counter I see right above the grill a giant sign saying they offer soup in a bowl. This famous burrito location is my go to when in the mood for tacos! Specially on Taco Tuesday when the tacos are only $2.75 plus tax! Normally $3.99. They do get alittle busy on this day but they move quick and we were able to dine in and eat with not much of a wait.0 Everything is very filling from the guac and chips or a steak quesadilla as appetizer everything is always well done. Tacos with an Horchata is sure to hit the spot! They also have a freezer with good fruit popsicles for dessert. The horchata (rice water) was delicious with good flavor not watered down. If you're looking for authentic Mexican food, El Famous Burrito is an absolute must-visit. I ordered the burrito with carne asada and it was easily the best burrito I've had in a long time--anywhere. The meat was perfectly seasoned and packed with flavor, and the burrito was loaded and satisfying from the first bite to the last. We also tried the nacho plate with chorizo, and it was just as good. The chorizo had amazing flavor and paired perfectly with the fresh toppings and crispy chips. The setup is simple and casual--you order at the counter and then take your food to your table--but the service really stood out. The employees were very, very nice and made the whole experience even better. All around, El Famous Burrito is one of the most recommended places around for authentic Mexican food. You get exactly what you're order, and it's quick, easy, and filling. We came by for dinner on Friday night. They were not too busy as we came in just before the dinner rush. Parking is complimentary as they are located in a strip. Once you enter the restaurant you are asked to wait until they call you up to the counter. Once you order, they will call your number to pick up your food. There were some tables available for dine in, but it seems majority order it for carry out. We decided to dine in. I got 3 steak tacos and my husband got a burrito. It wasn't until after we ordered and paid that we saw the 3 taco dinner which was cheaper than 3 tacos separately. I ordered my tacos on flour tortillas with cilantro and onions. I got exactly that. They hit the spot and were just what I need for dinner. We also got a side of guac and chips which I thought was a bit too salty, but with the tacos they were fine. For my drink I got an aqua Fresca, it came without ice which I usually love but it was oddly warm and tasted a bit odd not being chilled. Keep in mind there are no refills for drinks. Well EL FAMOUS BURRITO you need to update the board in your restaurant with prices. It said a COMBO of Chile Relleno and your choice of meat was $10.99. How did my $10.99 plus sour cream. When hubs and I have cravings for carne asada burritos and tacos, El Famous Burrito in Wheeling is often consistent with both. Both are filled with ample carne asada as well as the other fillings that comes with each. If you go too late, the meat tends to get too dried out and tough. I've also had the lengua (tender), al pastor (mediocre), and they have fish on Fridays during Lent (SO GOOD!). The rice and beans are hit or miss. We ordered; Carne asada burrito: good, some of the carne asada was overcooked because they were cut really small so they were hard to eat. Carne asada/steak tostada: soggy by the time we got it home (7 min drive) which made the tostada chewy. Same problem with the steak, they were small cuts so they were dry Horchata: Rich, refreshing with a nice balance of cinnamon. Al Pastor tacos: flavor was good, but the al pastor tasted reheated. I've had better meals from the El Famous Wheeling location. Hopefully today was an off day. read more

El Famous Burrito was the first choice that came to mind. They are reliably consistent and a really good value. Check them out for great deals on Taco Tuesday. I got the pork burrito, my friend got a chicken taco, a steak taco, and a pork taco. We also got a nacho to share. The portions are generous and you'll never go hungry. The flavor hit the spot. The nachos took up a standard plate that was refilled three times, AND there was still nachos left over for lunch the next day. We took our food to go but there is plenty of seating inside. We had an order of steak tacos, steak burrito and 2 chicken burritos. The food comes out very fast! By the time decided where to sit and get our utensils. The steak tacos were ready, followed by the steak burrito, then followed by 2 chicken burritos. I had one chicken burrito. It included lettuce, tomatoes, onions, beans and chicken. The chicken was dry and not too flavorful. From what I heard from the guys that ordered the steak, it was dry as well. They totally missed the mark here. It was taco Tuesday and I ordered online. For the first time in several years I ordered hard shell for a change. 3 ground beef and 2 Al pastor. This location acts like a homeless soup kitchen. You have to stand in a line and you can't approach the register until they say you can. COVID is over, I don't get what they are trying to do. Years ago you could order food and sit at a table and eat like normal people do. While it seems like you still can dine in, they have removed the majority of tables. Last 2 times I've been there has been a problem. This last time I clearly asked for the Qty: 2 - 3 taco "Dinners" I say "Dinners". The total didn't add up in my head and I spotted he was only charging me for one. So I corrected him two more times before he got it and gladly paid him more for two "Dinners". We've been going to El Famous Burrito for years. Sometimes they're great. Sometimes they're not. Whether you get the correct order and tasty food, or you get the wrong order and bad food...it really depends on who is cooking and how busy they are. It's definitely not consistent day to day or week to week. We generally like their standard steak and ground beef tacos (with cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes) either in flour tortillas or crunchy tortillas. Unfortunately, about 1/4 of the time, we end up getting the default corn tortillas instead of what we ordered. Also, about 1/4 of the time, we get really greasy burnt or tough meat. We also ask for limes, and sometimes it's in there and sometimes it's not. When everything is correct, the food is actually very good. But there is a decent chance when things are not correct or cooked wrong. You just roll the dice when you order from here. read more

El Famous is one of those local places where you always know what to expect. Its food is consistent and good. On Sept. 27 I ordered my go-to chicken taco salad, which comes with cheese, lettuce and tomato, and sides of verde and mole sauce. It's a nice-sized meal -- I can never finish the whole thing at once, especially since the edible bowl is also large. Their prices are also reasonable. We ordered two taco salads and a junior steak burrito, and the total was about $21. El Famous is a Wheeling institution, and my family and I will be back! read more

If you want quick Mexican food, they do the job. Then again so does Taco Bell. It's not great...it's not terrible, it works. After the Covid restrictions happened, they never really reverted back to ""normal" dining. No longer is hot or mild sauce available on tables. They still separate certain dining areas with chairs, and their "football" sized burritos are no longer "football" sized. They took advantage of Covid restrictions and continue with those antics with smaller servings while encouraging more carry out business vs dining in.
