The nice tortilla chips were served with two types of sauces: a green and a red with a very unique flavor and texture. Both excellent. I ate the camarones Al Mojo De Ajo = shrimp simmered in a garlic sauce served with Spanish rice and salad. Came with grilled flour tortillas done warm and perfectly. This restaurant is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants and I think you will like it too. The service is very quick and you can just sit wherever you want and they will come to you. You get your food within 10-15 minutes, and the food is amazing. The ambiance feels authentic and they have a lot of arcade games and Mexican music. There's lot of comfortable seating and you can grab a menu to the left of the ATM machine at the right entrance. The food of course is delicious and my favorite dish to get is the lengua(beef tongue) burrito dinner. They never fail to make the beef tongue tender and juicy. So I come to this place often and I just don't understand how you have a bad intercom when you're charging 4 dollars a taco. If you sell 400 tacos a day you have you're at 1,600 dollars. Let's say you sell the same amount of tacos in 6 days (because of taco Tuesday) you're at $9,600. Once gain how can you not afford a better intercom?? I'll make this brief. How hard is it make Mexican food? The burrito was more flour tortilla and vegetables than meat, in my book that's a big "no, no". Especially, if you pay over $10.00. Tacos (carnitas, pastor, steamed beef) the same thing. I mean you have to be making a kiling on the profit margin, especially when your not focusing on the quality or quanity of the main product. Which is "THE MEAT"! It's only because you can't get a 0 that you got a 1 star. Shame on your cooks and your establishment. This place goes through name and ownership changes frequently it seems. Just last year this was called Arturo's Mexican Grill. I had written a review for it. Now they did a name change to this Chapa place. Not sure if the ownership changed too? My guess is not changed since when I went here again recently, I saw the same staff ss before. I am not sure why my review for Arturo's hasn't been carried over to this but I guess it doesn't work that way. I like going here for their tacos. That's all I have had here. Their Al-pastor, Chorizo and Pollo tacos are my favorites. They are cooked properly and the flavor is exactly to my taste buds liking. I have also had their carne asada taco which is good too. I like their salsas too. The hot salsa they give when you with their chips when you dine-in is my favorite. It's a creamy kind and is pretty spicy. I forgot it's name right now. Tuesdays are $0.99 tacos special all day, dine-in or carry out. This place gets crazy busy then, especially, during the evening hours. They also serve alcohol drinks (beer and margaritas, for e.g.). I can't to go a Mexican place without trying a taco so I ordered a chicken taco. WOW. I loved it so much that I wished I ordered a few for dinner instead of just 1 as an app. They have taco Tuesday $1 which I'm sure draws in a crowd. I had the grilled chicken breast with beans, rice and salad. The chicken was tasty but a bit thinner then I'm used to having. The rice was good and the beans were amazing. My cousin had a similar dish with fried shrimp. She enjoyed it but said the shrimp was slightly overcooked but she still enjoyed the entire dish. We had frozen margaritas which came in an oversized cup. I think it was about $9 but worth double. It was soooooo good. If it wasn't a Wednesday night I would have had a second one. The restaurant had a nice crowd on a Wednesday even which tells you the food is really good. They also have a large take out area and plenty of parking outside. I'm pretty sure I saw a drive thru although the order sign was dark (probably just out). They also have a bunch of tables so you can eat outside on warmer days. A mixed experience for me. On the good side, the portion sizes were generous, ingredients were fresh, food presentation was pleasant, prices were good, dining room was spacious and decently decorated, there was plenty of parking, and air conditioning was good. On the bad side, the food was overall a bit overcooked on each dish, the meat could've used more seasoning, and service was slow. Here were my thoughts on individual items. Carne al carbon: Nice size cut of meat that was lightly seasoned though it didn't really have any strong charbroiled flavor to it. I wish the cut had a bit more fat too it and was charred a little. Chuletas de puerco en salsa verde: Prepared pretty juicy for a thin slice of pork. Even with all the sauce, the flavor was a bit on the light side. Camaron tosada: Lots of shrimp in a ceviche style preparation with lots of fresh herbs and creamy avocado. Al pastor gordita: Tender pork that was seasoned well. There was a good texture contrast with the crispy tortilla, crisp lettuce, chewy pork, and liquid sour cream. Perchuga de pollo al carbon: Slightly overcooked, but seasoned well and had a light grilled flavor to it. Rice and beans: Standard -- a little on the soft side though. Salad: Fresh vegetables and added a nice touch to the side of each entree Tortilla chips: Nice and crunchy. The salsas provided went great with the chips and the entrees. These salsas used fresh ingredients to bring out some bright and tasty flavors. Overall, I'd come back because of the prices and options offered. While it wasn't consistently good on each individual item, this is much better food than you'll typically find at this price range and definitely a better value than the options in the $11-$15 range that aren't really cooked any better. A solid choice if you live in the area. read more

When it comes to Italian Beef I will go to the outer edges of the Universe to find the best. When it comes to Pizza I am willing to go beyond the Event Horizon of a Black Hole into potentially another Universe to find the best Pizza. When it comes to Tacos I do not want to go further than my own neighborhood though. I do not know much about Tacos, I just know how to eat them. I am not great at distinguishing what is a really good Taco from one that is not. For me just find me a Taco where the meat is not so dry and it tastes good. That place is Casa Chapala. Not only is it in the neighborhood it's practically across the street. The staff is friendly, its busy, the tacos are solid, and the meat is not dry. That is all I need in a Taco. Sometimes it can get a little salty but a little extra lime which is what I get anyway will cover that up Overall it is probably not the best taco ever but it is close and it's good, so it will do for me. The most average taco place not worth travel for and we were traveling from Vernon Hills. I was convinced the Al pastor might live up to expectations based on reviews & photos. It had the right color and the reviews usually match up with that minuscule detail. Sadly mistaken. The al pastor I had was seasoned alike the carne asada and for whatever fucking reason my stomach had been making odd sounds into the following day. I'd ordered the Al pastor burrito Suizo, which was mucho suizo (cheesy) minus any glimmer of red sauce. I'm not sure what happened to the red sauce, which is sometimes called "ranchero" sauce. (A tomato based mild sauce lacking much flavor.) Anywho.. shit was okay for late night food but I can't think of any reason to return. If eating with children, I think they might dig it. Local taco place near my parents house so decided to check it out. To start, the staff is super friendly and greet you as soon as you walk in. You can sit down yourself. They bring out a green and red salsa that are delicious with the chips that taste homemade. The green salsa is spicy but not so spicy that it's not enjoyable. The red salsa is made with roasted peppers and super flavorful. We came in Tuesday when they have 99 cent tacos. I got the chorizo and chicken taco. My favorite was actually the chicken but both had a good flavor and spiced meats. I also got a tostada, but have to say the tacos were my favorite. The tostada I got with the taco al pastor and it was a little dry and plain. I really liked the corn tortilla on the tacos. My dad got the burrito which was giant and he enjoyed it. Overall a good local place to go for some homemade authentic Mexican food for a good price. I like this place. It was a last minute deal when we picked it out, and it worked out very well. It's in an old Arby's or Burger King building. When you walk in there is a huge mocahete (I hope I'm spelling it right) on the counter. To me, that's a real good sign. In case you don't know a mocahete is a large bowl that you grind vegetables together to make guacamole or salsa. Our servers were both very nice and attentive, even though they were kinda busy. There was a large group on the patio ordering a lot of margaritas and tequila shots. The drinks looked very good. My torta was a tiny bit smaller than I'm used to, but it was tasty.
