I don't have tacos or burritos often, so it's a nice change of pace. This was my first time here. The restaurant isn't huge, but does have seating if you want to dine. I had 2 quesabirria tacos with their dipping broth. The broth adds a little flavor to the tacos. They're not skinny either, there's plenty of beef packed inside. We were craving burritos tonight and decided to try El Famous Burrito. The establishment is simple and clean, but the music is ridiculously loud. We ordered a steak burrito and a chorizo and egg burrito. We also ordered elote. The elote was tasty but we removed about half the Mayo that came on top of it. Our burritos were not good at all. The meat is very bland. Her steak burrito had little to no beans and way way to much cheese. So much cheese there is hardly any lettuce or meat! I can't recommend this place. read more

We chose this due to price and the fact that they offered delivery. My go-to from Mexican restaurants is nachos. I got steak nachos and a chicken taco to save for the next day. My husband got a steak burrito and a chicken quesadilla. We were pleased to see how customizable the items were- my husband likes rice on his burritos and this was a free add in for him. He enjoyed his burrito. It was a good size, and had a good amount of all ingredients. My nachos had a few pros and a few cons. The cons- for delivery, it would've been better if they could've wrapped the box in its own bag or stapled it down to keep it warm. They came cold though since the box didn't have a good seal. The guacamole was pretty bland. The nachos were missing the tomatoes too. Pros- The steak was tasty. I really enjoyed the fact that the chips were fried flour tortillas. They were strong and held their shape while being eaten. The cheese was plentiful and delicious. Our chicken items had a very dark, finely shredded meat on them. We live in Glen Ellyn and have tried numerous Mexican restaurants since moving out here a little over a year ago. El famous burrito is what reminds us of the city the most. So many Mexican restaurants out here put way too much salt in their food, not here. Just fresh yummy food without having to hide their food under salt. However, there are varying degrees when it comes to quality and especially taste. El Famous Burrito falls at, or just below, the middle of the pack. Their food, while tasty, doesn't leave any sort of lasting impression on the consumer (pun intended). Waiting in line, smelling the delicious smells wafting off the grill, leads one to believe they are in for a treat. However, I felt a little disappointed. My burrito tasted "fine" and that's all. This has been my place for tacos and burritos since the second day it was opened. I was so excited with the new menu item was announced: quesabirra tacos. I went the second weekend they offered it AND it sucked in so many ways. First it was soggy. Second it was tasteless!! Third, my side of beans were cold! When the worker told asked me about my meal as I left, I told him how disappointed I was. He said they cook them medium to please those who like it soft, while others like it crunchy...they play it safe. Never again. Awful food and poor service. Gone downhill over the years. Several years ago I stopped in and spoke to the Owner who had just remodeled and the food was good. Nothing incredible but okay for a local Mexican restaurant and worth the stop. He was very positive about the restaurant's future. As the years have passed it's gone downhill. Last Saturday was the last time I'll go there. Seemed like what dog food would taste like. I am including three photos. We had vegetarian tacos and an enchilada dinner. The corn tortillas were mush in the center and dry on the edges. The cilantro was severely dried out. Looked like it was freeze dried cilantro if there is such a thing. The chicken/cheese in the enchiladas was just a globb of unrecognizable mush. The beans severely watered down which you can see from one of the photos. The tomatoes had this pale, iridescent glow to them and were also mushy. Looked very old to me. Years ago they had the most awesome veggie enchiladas with mole sauce. That's been gone for ages. I was at their Glendale Heights location a couple months back. The Chilie Relleno was so greasy even patting it which numerous paper towels did nothing and I had to toss it. I sent an email to their "corporate headquarters" in Chicago. No reply. The facility was run down and dirty. The staff not pleasant. When I asked for seven packets of carrots/pepper I was told "you can only have four". Guess that is one per taco, and one for the whole enchilada dinner? The cashier was easily annoyed when I needed to go over what would be included in each taco. I know things are tough these days, but I noticed this downward trend in food and service well before Covid hit. The place has sure taken a nose dive. What a shame. read more

I went here for the first time tonight. The place is very clean. The cashier seemed like he'd rather be anywhere than there. I ordered 2 steak burritos, one plain, one with just meat and cheese. I also got 2 orders of fries. I got it all home, and was a little disappointed. Don't get me wrong, the burrito tasted great! The meat was very moist, albeit a little salty. The green salsa was also very good. The fries weren't good, but hey, they're just fries. The thing that really upset me about this whole experience was the pricing. $7 for a regular burrito? They're pretty small, so they likely won't fill you up. Chips and salsa were nearly $5, which compared to other places seems a little ridiculous. Overall, I would say it was okay. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me! I have given this place SO many chances for the past decade that every decision to go there has been based on the fact that I've literally forgotten how much I hate this place. With so many taco places in Glendale Heights/Addison and the surrounding area, there is absolutely no reason to go to El Famous. When you bring the take out bag home to divvy up and everyone's food, and they're like "what meat is this? Is that pork, chicken.... other?" You already have a problem. The worst part is, I don't think I've ever ordered something without friggin bones in it. The last straw was the chicken tacos (I think it was chicken) with a saber-tooth sized chicken bone that just about pieced the roof of my mouth and cracked my crown. Enough already! The lowest grade meat soaked in greasy sauce that dissolves their cheapy tortilla shells, their flat, flavorless beans and rice and the Horchata that inevitably chokes the life out of me with sand-like cinnamon... you get the idea. The lack of improvement over the years goes to show how much this place doesn't care. Do you REALLY want to eat somewhere they don't care? Not only was the food delicious, but they separated everyone's order into individual brown bags so we didn't have to dig into each other's food. Went with my wife for lunch. And I feel if they could charge extra for napkins, water, and soap and water to wash your hands they would. We asked for sour cream extra, limes extra, enchilada sauce extra. We both ordered enchilada dinner one chicken one one steak. We were charged extra for steak. Both of them were beef. I noticed and asked to have them remade. They said they could "in a bit". I said how long is a bit. They said maybe 20 minutes, so we said screw they and ate it anyways. I said since you F'd up my order can I please have some extra enchilada sauce and they it was an extra charge. Not to mention they also don't even drizzle enchilada sauce on enchiladas!!!!! None, they seemed premade and just thrown In a microwave. This place is waaaaay over priced compared to Glendale Heights. I hate posting another negative review but have grown extremely frustrated very specifically with ordering ahead online over the past 6 months or so. Well more than half the time I order online (and we do so at least 2 or 3 times a month) the staff doesn't even start my order until after I've arrived, and I give them at least 5 minutes AFTER they said it would be ready before I show up. Tonight I ordered at 6:28 and the order was supposed to be ready at 6:50. I showed up at 6:55 and the man at the register said "they're putting it together right now". But they weren't. 2 people who ordered after I was told they were putting it together got their food before they even started on mine. I love their food, and I believe in brand loyalty (if deserved). I lived in Rogers Park for 10 years in the 80s and 90s and frequented the store on Clark on a very regular basis (kudos to Vince and his staff for the food and service). When we moved out west I was ecstatic we were so close to the Lombard location. I also consistently add a 30% tip to my online order b/c I appreciate the hard work that is behind the food. But I'm at the end of my rope with the delays. Mostly with the fact that people that show up 25 minutes after I placed my order have their food before the staff starts making mine. I really dislike writing negative reviews, but this was just such horrible customer service that I feel a little compelled to say something. Yesterday night, I placed an order with El Famous Burrito via Uber Eats. I ordered a nacho plate, a quesadilla and a three taco, chicken dinner (hey...I was hungry!). No big deal, right? When my food arrived, I noticed that I had the wrong order...someone had swapped out my chicken tacos for some other creation that, to be honest, I don't even know what it was. Some sort of soggy green pepper and cheese. I pulled up my receipt from Uber Eats to ensure I didn't accidentally place the wrong order, which I had not. I then contacted the place to inform them of the mix up. The person who answered the phone was pretty disinterested in my concern, stating "yeah, I can see they mixed it up." Long pause. Me: Yes...they did. Any way I can get a new set of tacos sent out? Long pause. "Let me check with my manager." Hold. "Yeah, we'll "try" to call Uber eats and see if they can maybe refund your money. If they can, we'll call you." Click. Didn't take my number down or anything, meaning they probably didn't call. I'm not so much upset about the mix up (hey, it happens), but the egregious lapse in customer service. Won't be back, and certainly do not recommend. I really like their 'red' (hot) sauce as well. Negatives: A bit greasy (as you would expect), sometimes the wait for ordering is a bit when they get busy. I started going to this place because of their taco Tuesday special, for the price, it was decent. then one day I decided to bring my family in for dinner before a movie. All the employees working at that time must've been in high school, maybe there was one adult. After I placed my order and sat down, I was watching the employees and they were just laughing, giggling, and playing around. You know, what teenagers do. After waiting 20 minutes, they realized no one made my food and decided to slap it all together. It was the worst tasting and least appetizing meal I ever had. I thought I would complain and ask for my money back but realizing it was just a bunch of kids behind the counter, I knew it would be a complete waste of time. I told my wife "let's get out of here, I'm never coming back! " we just threw our plates of food away! not thoughtfully scrape them clean and place the plates in the designated bin, but threw the all the F^€£\#? Easily 4.5 stars. When I give the "1/2" rating, whatever star I give it is where I think they could take things. New ownership. Complete refresh of the space as well. The food was VERY good as I recalled it many years ago. The burrito was very good but I didn't dress it as I usually do (no sour cream or onions). The think I liked about this now is that everything is crystal clear. The menu is laid out where all the items are spelled out. No shock charges either. Even so, the extras are clearly stated. They also have displays of what the sides look like (3 versions). My choice was a chicken burrito & it was as good as I recalled years back. MIGHT need a touch more salt but not a deal breaker either. I noticed that on my recent visit, the staff was MUCH more engaged than my previous visit. Now it was a slower time but even so, a few of the staff took some slow time & made some small talk. When I see the operator/manager interacting with customer as he did, that was impressive. He remembered their names. The people were VERY friendly. . It seems like El Famous is going through some growing pains of sorts. The issues I dealt with before are gone. No bueno. This place was bad. I walked in to order food to go. My gut told me to turn around and walk right back out when I saw the cashier wearing his mask completely under his nose leaving it completely exposed while barely covering his mouth. I didn't listen and now my gut is paying for it. I ordered two - three steak taco dinners. They were awful. The steak was over cooked, hard and old. The tomatoes were old and mushy. The rice and beans were both undercooked. The menu on the wall stated the dinners were $8.99 each. I was charged $9.50 each. It's 4am and my stomach feels awful. I'd love to vomit just to get this awful food out of me. Never again. read more
