We booked two packages together for my birthday, which was confirmed over the phone, and were told our day would be completed shortly after 4:00 PM. The packages advertised hand and foot treatments, massages, facials, mud wraps, a light lunch, and a small gift. Upon arrival, we were told our massages had been set up in separate cabanas. When we asked to be together, we spent roughly 10 minutes being discouraged from doing so because everything had already been set up and changing it would be inconvenient. They ultimately accommodated us, but having to advocate that strongly for something we had specifically booked together was an unfortunate start to a birthday spa day. The massages themselves were excellent, and the mud wraps were genuinely enjoyable. Unfortunately, the organization and hospitality surrounding the treatments were very different. We were frequently left unattended for long periods. During my mud wrap, I was partially unwrapped and handed my phone--with my hands still covered in product--and reprimanded for not answering calls because staff had been trying to reach us for our lunch orders. Instead of taking the order beforehand or asking us in person, I had to wait for and respond to a text while covered in product. No one returned, so I spent the remainder of the treatment partially unwrapped with my phone beside me. We had also been told to hydrate, yet had to specifically request water with lunch. Several hours into the day, we were told it was time for our facials and asked which of us would go first. This was the first indication that these treatments would not be performed together. We were confused because our packages had been booked together and, importantly, we had been told we would be finished shortly after 4:00 PM. We had plans afterward based on that confirmed timeframe. Had we been told otherwise in advance, we could have planned accordingly. At that point, the experience had become more stressful than relaxing. I asked to discontinue the remaining services and receive an appropriate partial refund. We had already not received the advertised hand and foot treatments, and ultimately did not receive the facials either. I then spoke with the owner, who focused on our expectation that services booked together would be performed together rather than the communication issues. She said she was handling personal matters and would get back to me regarding a refund. I completely understand that personal matters arise and can take priority. However, we never heard from her again. I even returned the following day hoping to resolve the situation. To be fair, the treatments we actually received--the massages and mud wraps--were very good, and this is not a criticism of the individual practitioners. The issue was the organization, communication, attentiveness, and lack of follow-through. For two "Day of Heaven" packages booked together for a special birthday experience, I expected the advertised services, the scheduling and timing confirmed to us, and professional follow-through when concerns were raised. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. I would recommend confirming in writing exactly which services are included, whether appointments booked together will actually be performed together, and the true expected duration before booking.

I felt it was professional and clean and she answered the questions asked and didn't rush. I stood in the same spot the entire time. never moved. Just watched. The shop is small. There is no space for moving or seating for bystanders. And that was understandable as piercings are typically quick. Unfortunately, the positive experience I was having was completely overshadowed by what happened after the piercing. Shortly after my girlfriend's piercing, the owner or piercer or hairstylist Monica (sorry I didn't inquire her professional title) accused us of stealing money. Exact words she used were "Did you guys steal my money!?" *We are both Black* and it was immediately clear to me that this was racial profiling. I laughed assuming she was joking and said "oh you have to be joking?". *Though it would have been a really inappropriate joke*. But she was serious. She then stated again that her previous client left money for her that was "gone". at this time the money she is questioning me over is visible to myself still standing in the same spot. the entire time still 10 feet away. I could literally see the money as we were being accused by her of stealing it. To think she wouldn't even look for it before doubling down and randomly accusing us or me who had been standing in the same exact spot for 15 minutes in her constant view was very offensive, alarming, and telling. So I pointed to it as if it was any of my business or as if it was my obligation to prove any type of innocence in her completely unwarranted accusation. Monica admitted she felt embarrassed. I stated "AWKWARD". The room fell silent. We paid and left. but the harm was already done. As a Black man, being falsely accused of theft is deeply humiliating and upsetting, and I know my girlfriend felt the same on her birthday. The feeling sits with you. This situation spoke volumes about her assumptions and disregard for how her words and how her actions would impact us. The piercing work was fine, but the lack of respect, the rush to judgment, and the racial bias make it impossible for me to recommend this business. Your experience may not be my experience your skin may not be my own. but this moment will live with me forever. So I felt at best I could be empowered by sharing my truth. And letting it go. I always walk out of my appointment feeling incredible and like a new version of myself.  Her technique is fantastic and unlike other massages I've had. She's incredibly educated about anatomy which makes me feel more comfortable having her work on me. She sets the ambiance beautifully. But even more she can sense what my body and muscles need and gives me appropriate recommendations for post-care. Unfortunately, our August 2026 visit was one of the most disappointing we've experienced. The attention to detail that has made Harbor Sands feel special was missing. We noticed trash in the Sands for days, abandoned towels that weren't removed until we mentioned them, inconsistent food and cocktails, and a general lack of hospitality from some of the staff. We also noticed staff socializing in guest palapas and lounge chairs while paying guests were nearby not being taken care of. None of these issues were major on their own, but together they created a noticeably different experience than we've come to expect. Harbor Sands has always been one of our favorite places because of its well kept grounds, excellent service, and attention to detail. With the premium prices today, we still expect that same level of quality. We're sharing this because we truly care about Harbor Sands and hope management can refocus on the little things that made this destination so special. After booking online on their website, I received a call from Jackie to confirm my requests. A day before we were to arrive at the hotel, Daniel called me to confirm and asked if I had any questions or needed anything just to give them a call. This was the first time I have ever been called directly when I booked a hotel room. It made this experience alone such a wonderful thing, even before getting to the hotel! Jackie checked us in and gave us all of the information we needed about the hotel and our stay. Both rooms were very clean and just the right size. The rooms were equipped with air conditioning, television, coffee maker, plenty of clean towels, hotel toiletries, and hair dryer. They also have beach towels and irons available at the office. This hotel is located at the center of it all. Right as you exit the hotel downstairs, you see the gorgeous view of the beachfront, and then all of the shops and restaurants right along the hotel. You are close to everything! This hotel is family/kid friendly! My 4 year old grandson came on this trip with us and everyone at Hotel Mac Rae was very accommodating. Because of the location, it was wonderful to be able to come back to the hotel to reset after going on our excursions and doing activities. A Charming Relic That Needs Some Attention…read more Where do I start? Yes, the building is old, and the rooms are small and somewhat claustrophobic. But much of that could be improved fairly easily by getting rid of the garage-sale version of "turn-of-the-century" decor, much of which is oversized for the tiny spaces. A few suggestions: Put the sink near the bathroom rather than on the opposite side of the room. Remove the nasty carpeting--I suspect there may be original hardwood floors underneath. Provide luggage stands. Replace the heavy fabric curtains and cheesy valances, which make the rooms feel even more closed in, with simple wooden blinds or shutters. And replace the cheap pull-down fabric shades. The disproportionately large ceiling fan, which was connected to the lights, also turned on spontaneously in the middle of the night. Wi-Fi was poor to nonexistent. Most importantly, there was no chilled, filtered drinking water. Since the hotel doesn't provide it, perhaps they could make arrangements with the Metropole Hotel across the street to allow guests to fill their water bottles there. We did this anyway, especially because the tap water on Catalina is not particularly pleasant and isn't something many visitors want to drink. The frustrating thing is that so much could be done to make these rooms more comfortable and appealing without spending a fortune. It makes you wonder why the owners haven't addressed some of these very basic issues. And at $260 a night, it's simply not worth it. I would pass on this so-called "charming relic" and look elsewhere.

The employee on the right gave us the wrong room. We reserved the Patio View and we got no view. The employee on the left who told us her name was Nancy (who knows) came and told us we had the wrong room and gave us the Patio View. BUT when I asked what the Patio View was and why we were given the other room with no view, Nancy decided to start arguing with me and told me that they could refuse service to me and not honor my reservation. On the summer peak season they refused service bc I asked for clarification on what they advertised. Hard to find a hotel where the employee would argue at the top of her lungs after they've made a mistake. Clearly made a mistake bc Nancy was telling the employee how to distinguish Patio View room. I've never been thrown out of a hotel for complaining about what I paid for. Don't ever go here. Bbq grill not working, jacuzzi not working, and bedbugs from what Google review says.
