They had a sign on the door for $20 UGG boots but don't be deceived they aren't authentic UGGS (obviously). I sent an email to The Steamer Trunk explaining what happened and the next day received a return email from Erin. She apologized and asked if I would like a refund or replacement! I asked for a replacement and to my surprise a new bracelet arrived at my home the next day! Excellent customer service! I will always purchase from this store when I visit Catalina Island.

This is a shop for people that own beach houses or have relatives that do. Or who have fully embraced the nautical or "beach" aesthetic in their homes. I do tease. This stores carries a well-curated array of gifts. These include such things as hand-made pottery, jewelry, candles, cards and an array of objet d'arts. There is dominant color palate of blues, greens and driftwood. It is a very nice shop and one that you could easily spend quite a while picking out a tasteful gift for a loved one. The Steamer Trunk has a lovely inventory. And it of course carries merchandise emblazoned with "Catalina Island." It's just that it's the same inventory I've seen when I've visited my mother near Rehobeth Beach. Or the Waterfront in Baltimore where my sister lives. It would have been nice to have seen some more local artists/artisans represented. As you might expect, the gift shop wasn't on the cheap side, but, to be fair, for the quality of the goods for sale it was reasonable. Resort towns (and California and especially Catalina) are typically on the pricier side. This is an economy fed primarily through tourism. But, again, prices were not exorbitant. When I visited there several other shoppers in the store and the woman tending the register was answering question for them. I felt like I would have no problem getting helpful answers. So, while not unique, definitely a place to find some beautiful gifts.

The locals and guests staying overnight are okay, but the cruise ship clientele is like a pack of hyenas. She weathered them well. A tip jar on the counter was taking donations for the local humane society but I'd already left them some money a few hours earlier so that was about it. Still, a fun place to visit when they're open, and there's no cruise ships.

This year, we decided to look at their "Epic Magnet Wall". To be fair, I don't know if I'd consider the wall "Epic", but not only did we find a magnet for ourselves, we found several other items, and at a price that didn't hurt my head or my wallet. I got my first jellycat here and came back the next day and was so lucky to get a rare one that was not out the day before. I was impressed. We continued talking and I mentioned how much I loved the unique designs, nothing I'd seen anywhere. She smiled even more and admitted she'd designed them! I asked more about how (I do some graphic design work) and turns out she does them by hand. By hand! Not using modern technology, but true art. Please, if you visit Catalina Island, check out this shop. It's the middle storefront at the Hotel MacRae, the sign was missing on my visit. Buy one of Dina's embroidery designs. Buy several. Our visit to the island was amazing and we will be back. Each trip I intend to bring home a Dina original.

They have so many different options for gifts for yourself or to but for family and friends. Two of my friends tween daughters were there and I asked them to help me shop. They immediately pointed me to the Nest shirts and the caps were their second choice. Then they showed me all the candles- so many to choose from!! The store has some unique food options, such as canned mussels, tuna in Spanish olive oil, fig spread, salami crackers, cereals, oils, salts. Plenty to make a delicious picnic!! They have kitchenware such as wine "pints", bowls, linens, cutting boards, knives, spreaders, serving utensils. Currently also carrying some crafty Christmas decorations. I could go on and on.
