This is a shop for people that own beach houses or have relatives that do. Or who have fully embraced the nautical or "beach" aesthetic in their homes. I do tease. This stores carries a well-curated array of gifts. These include such things as hand-made pottery, jewelry, candles, cards and an array of objet d'arts. There is dominant color palate of blues, greens and driftwood. It is a very nice shop and one that you could easily spend quite a while picking out a tasteful gift for a loved one. The Steamer Trunk has a lovely inventory. And it of course carries merchandise emblazoned with "Catalina Island." It's just that it's the same inventory I've seen when I've visited my mother near Rehobeth Beach. Or the Waterfront in Baltimore where my sister lives. It would have been nice to have seen some more local artists/artisans represented. As you might expect, the gift shop wasn't on the cheap side, but, to be fair, for the quality of the goods for sale it was reasonable. Resort towns (and California and especially Catalina) are typically on the pricier side. This is an economy fed primarily through tourism. But, again, prices were not exorbitant. When I visited there several other shoppers in the store and the woman tending the register was answering question for them. I felt like I would have no problem getting helpful answers. So, while not unique, definitely a place to find some beautiful gifts.

They have everything like seashells, wind chimes, signs, shot glasses, souvenirs, and more. Most things are made from sea shells and the colors are so pretty. We really like the seashell chimes and dream catchers here. Everything is reasonably priced and very well made. The workers here are always so friendly. They package the purchased gifts for customers very well too. Definitely come in to find some cute gifts if you ever visit Avalon!

Then we are waiting to pay at check out standing at the desk with our items and the cashier or owner proceeded to talk with other customers about house for about 5 min until she noticed us and gave us a rude response saying you have to tell me you are ready and she would not help us until we said the words " I'm ready " and if we didn't say that she couldn't help us. We felt so uncomfortable and unwelcome and said leave. It was so rude especially in front of other customers as well they were uncomfortable as well.

To be fair, I don't know if I'd consider the wall "Epic", but not only did we find a magnet for ourselves, we found several other items, and at a price that didn't hurt my head or my wallet. The lady that checked us out couldn't have been more friendly and personable, and let us know that she was the "Official Merchandise Tester" with a sly smile. She absolutely made the visit more fun, and we couldn't be happier with our purchases.

The women working the shop were nice and helpful. They took cash too, which was a plus. I even got a free souvenir bag because I spent over $50. I see where a lot of other reviews had issues with the staff here...I had no such problems. I did come here in the late afternoon, just before they closed and there were no other customers.

I brought it to the register where I met Dina. When I mentioned how pleased I was about the quality of the embroidered work, she smiled and explained they were embroidered "in the back." I was impressed. We continued talking and I mentioned how much I loved the unique designs, nothing I'd seen anywhere. She smiled even more and admitted she'd designed them! I asked more about how (I do some graphic design work) and turns out she does them by hand. By hand! Not using modern technology, but true art. Please, if you visit Catalina Island, check out this shop. It's the middle storefront at the Hotel MacRae, the sign was missing on my visit. Buy one of Dina's embroidery designs. Buy several. They have some cute jewelry and stuffies as well. The shop keeper was friendly and offered to help put away shirts and get other sizes for me. The t-shirts are a bit on the pricier side at $18-$22 for a single shirt, but they seem like good quality and original designs. Overall, I enjoyed the selection of t-shirts for my daughter and nephew and I had a hard time just picking one shirt for each kid--I was tempted to get more!

I came in here to see if I could find a simple…read morebathing suit, and walking in here was the worst mistake I could've ever made.. first thing first, when I walked in no one was in the store, I was in there for about 15 minutes, when she finally walked in she almost pushed my friend out her way, once I found a bathing suit I liked the tag said it came in a set but the bottom was missing, so I picked out a different bottom for $30 I went up and asked her if I could get that set for the price of the bottom, she said oh the bottom is in there somewhere so she went over to where the bathing suits were I waited another 15 minutes for her to come back and she didn't say anything so I asked her again if she could give me that set for the price of the bottom, she said "no I made a price for it" and i asked her how much? And she said $25 I asked her if she would do the top for $20 and the bottom for $30 she said "no I don't make the price" I tried convincing her a little more, and she extremely rudely said "no you can take it or leave it." So I left it. My first time in Catalina and it already started a bit sour.
