It's a nice store that's rather large when compared to other souvenir stores on the island. Filled with jackets, hats, sweaters, hoodies, T-shirts, pens, bracelets, tote bags & various other souvenirs to choose from. I was a tourist on the island. Doing a lot of shopping & in a really really good mood. so I know I didn't personally do anything to upset the unpleasant cashier with the horrible customer service. I'm not quite sure if she's an employee or the owner. But what I am sure of is the fact that tourism generates a significantly large amount of revenue for the island. So with that being said, the next time a customer enters your store it's OK to greet them. When they're at the register buying their items it's OK to smile for (at the very least) a second or two. So once the transaction is complete, just after you hand them their change & receipt. But before they walk away they say bye. It's OK to respond back. With something like... bye, see you later, have a nice day, thanks for stopping, stop by anytime, tell a friend, y'all come back now ya here. SOMETHING. And if the lady in question that I will only refer to as "the unpleasant one" ever reads this... CONGRATULATIONS!. You have officially complete my extremely brief etiquette 101 course. Your welcome :)

This was one of, if not the best, gift shops in Avalon during our trip last weekend to Catalina Island. It reminded me of the Hilo Hattie shops in Hawaii. They didn't just have cheap throw away tees and sweatshirts but instead had nicer, more high-end clothing items that didn't break the bank. I purchased a beautiful button down collared shirt that reminded me of the nice shirts you buy in Hawaii. They also had tons of gorgeous, artistic and nostalgic postcards -- the kind you keep and DON'T SEND, with vintage art celebrating The Magic Isle that is Catalina. They also seemed to be the only place on the island to have one of those create-your-own-pressed-penny souvenir machines. I like doing these so got one to add to my small collection of pressed coins! As a huge bonus, they gave me 3 birthday perks: a 10% off discount, PLUS a gorgeous reusable bag that had the vintage poster designs on it, PLUS a Catalina customized pencil. I definitely recommend this shop when trying to bring back quality souvenirs.

Great selection, friendly service, convenient location, prices somewhat less than you'd expect for a seaside shop. I'd recommend!

The man who owns the store was super nice. Love the selection of Chicago Cubs merchandise. I highly recommend this store.

This time I got some shirts that promote Catalina but with a Harley-Davidson style logo shape to it.

October 2024 | Avalon | Catalina Island: Located right on the oceanfront! Super friendly customer…read moreservice, thanks again to the friendly woman at the cash register, Dina! Absolutely cute souvenir shop with cute coffee mugs, men and women's clothing & Catalina Island branded products & so much more, with a variety of price points! Cozy Fabric: In October, Catalina Island can get pretty chilly at night time! Before quickly walking over to the movie theater, I stopped at this cute store and picked up a fuzzy-wuzzy sweater jacket to keep warm & it totally worked! Even cooler, the sweater jacket is reversible, and it felt like a warm blanket wrapped around me! I was super happy & very warm!

Hidden gem! We stopped in as we did other shops along the water front. As I browsed, I was struck…read moreby the high percentage of embroidered items. Not your typical printed embossed stuff, mind you, but old-school embroidered. I found one design I particularly liked on a sweatshirt (not the season for one where I live, but it was perfect). I brought it to the register where I met Dina. When I mentioned how pleased I was about the quality of the embroidered work, she smiled and explained they were embroidered "in the back." I was impressed. We continued talking and I mentioned how much I loved the unique designs, nothing I'd seen anywhere. She smiled even more and admitted she'd designed them! I asked more about how (I do some graphic design work) and turns out she does them by hand. By hand! Not using modern technology, but true art. Please, if you visit Catalina Island, check out this shop. It's the middle storefront at the Hotel MacRae, the sign was missing on my visit. Buy one of Dina's embroidery designs. Buy several. Our visit to the island was amazing and we will be back. Each trip I intend to bring home a Dina original.

This place sells neat clothing, and it's nice to have a board shop on the island. My frustration…read morewith this business stems from the employees' laziness. I came in two days ago, asked about a board. They were out. I said I was interested in acquiring a board ASAP, they said come in later when their inventory arrives. I literally walked up to the people who deliver shipments to businesses after they're flown to the island. I asked if they were going to deliver to CSC that day. They said they were on the way after stopping at Vons. Couple hours later, I stop at the shop and the shipment is sitting right next to the employee at the register. They said come back later, they had to unpack all the stuff. I say okay, expecting to have the board later that day. Come in later that day. It's 4:50pm. There's a note on the door saying "on break, back at 5". I already knew the employee was lazy and wouldn't be back on time, so I come back at 5:15. I arrive seconds before them, while they're pulling the keys to the business out of their pocket. Boxes still sitting there. They say come back tomorrow. Okay... Next day, I come back several times desperate to buy a board, every single time the same boxes are sitting on the floor. Ended that day empty handed. It's currently 2:50pm the next day. I've dropped in twice already today. Same thing. They KNEW I was willing to drop $200 on board parts, why would you not just take out components to a board and sell them to me? I've given up. I just wanted to ride, dude. Come on... Any skateboarders know what it's like when you get that itch and just need to ride. Someone who runs a boardshop should definitely get it. Anyone with business sense would get it. This place kept playing with me, acting like they were actually going to do what a business does. I felt like I was in some sort of absurd time loop. I am severely disappointed. I may just buy someone's board off of them. I'm sure it's not a bad business but this was a horrible experience. I mean, lazy is one thing. Three days to open a few boxes and scan some barcodes though? That's a whole new level.
