This is another one of those shops I go in and swear I will not buy something this time, and then i do. The last time I was here I got a ring-toss game which we still use at home on the patio. This time I got some shirts that promote Catalina but with a Harley-Davidson style logo shape to it. Definitely a fun store if you're looking for merch with a tie to the Wrigley's and their legacy. I am still wearing polo shirts that I bought here and had engraved with my boat's name in code flags after 24 years. Most still look great. When I visited Avalon many times on my boat, my first stop was this store, and was never disappointed. It's a nice store that's rather large when compared to other souvenir stores on the island. Filled with jackets, hats, sweaters, hoodies, T-shirts, pens, bracelets, tote bags & various other souvenirs to choose from. I was a tourist on the island. Doing a lot of shopping & in a really really good mood. so I know I didn't personally do anything to upset the unpleasant cashier with the horrible customer service. I'm not quite sure if she's an employee or the owner. But what I am sure of is the fact that tourism generates a significantly large amount of revenue for the island. So with that being said, the next time a customer enters your store it's OK to greet them. When they're at the register buying their items it's OK to smile for (at the very least) a second or two. So once the transaction is complete, just after you hand them their change & receipt. But before they walk away they say bye. It's OK to respond back. With something like... bye, see you later, have a nice day, thanks for stopping, stop by anytime, tell a friend, y'all come back now ya here. SOMETHING. And if the lady in question that I will only refer to as "the unpleasant one" ever reads this... CONGRATULATIONS!. You have officially complete my extremely brief etiquette 101 course. This was one of, if not the best, gift shops in Avalon during our trip last weekend to Catalina Island. It reminded me of the Hilo Hattie shops in Hawaii. They didn't just have cheap throw away tees and sweatshirts but instead had nicer, more high-end clothing items that didn't break the bank. I purchased a beautiful button down collared shirt that reminded me of the nice shirts you buy in Hawaii. They also had tons of gorgeous, artistic and nostalgic postcards -- the kind you keep and DON'T SEND, with vintage art celebrating The Magic Isle that is Catalina. They also seemed to be the only place on the island to have one of those create-your-own-pressed-penny souvenir machines. I like doing these so got one to add to my small collection of pressed coins! As a huge bonus, they gave me 3 birthday perks: a 10% off discount, PLUS a gorgeous reusable bag that had the vintage poster designs on it, PLUS a Catalina customized pencil. I wanted a souvenir before I left the island. I was looking for a cute bag to take home. Since Covid I make sure I read EVERY SIGN to make sure I follow guidelines and since I'm vaccinated I make sure I need my mask on or off. This particular store had no signs about eating. I totally looked. I was finishing off my oh so delicious ice cream cone when I walked in. I was already looking around till suddenly the cashier yelled and told me to get out and whatever else she said under her mask I didn't understand at all. However I figured it was because of my ice cream and not my skin tone. I HOPE. It was stated so rudely and totally embarrassing when she yelled for me to leave the store. Every customer looked at me and I was really embarrassed and confused. The COREECT way to speak to a customer is to wait till you have your line down and POLITELY walk up to me and tell me whatever it was that was stated under the mask. First time on Catalina Island so this was not the welcome I was expecting. I probably will never return back to this store EVER! read more

Bought a souvenir sweatshirt here. I loved it, it looked great. It was warm, soft and cozy when I tried it on. I washed it once and it came apart in the wash. My machine was filled with an extraordinary amount of fuzz from the sweatshirt. It's like all the lining came right off. If you hold it up to the light, now you can see through it. So disappointed. This is possibly the largest store of its kind in Avalon ( clothes). One of the things that makes it stand out in they sell Chicago Cubs swag/memorabilia. Yes due to Wrigley's being from Chicago and owning the Cubs. Avalon was the summer training camp for the Cubs. read more

Beware Yelpers!!!! This is the worst place to shop in Avalon. I bought a pair of sweats for 15.99 plus tax and put them on to ride bikes around the island. When I stopped to get a bite to eat 45 minutes later I noticed that the seams were coming undone. I returned to the store and asked for an exchange as this seemed to be a defective article of clothing. The clerk was uber rude and told me to get lost. That it was not their problem and that their policy was no returns or exchanges especially since I had already wore the clothing and they could not resell it. I was livid. Terrible customer service and I was out 18 bucks! DO NOT shop here Yelpers....unless you want defective clothing and have money to donate to Island Threadz! read more

Came here for some souvenirs before we headed back to our ship. I wanted to buy a hat... but didn't want to wait til the next day while we were in Mexico. I have a lot of hair, so it seems like its hard to find a hat that fits correctly. I found this cute hat, and tried it on and it actually fit, and looked good. Errrr.... $33? My kids talked me in to buying it, so I did. $33 to me is a lot of money for a hat, when I could have got one in Mexico for 1/4 of that price. Anyway... bought it, a shot glass... nothing else, cause the shirts were really expensive. Lady at the register was not friendly at all. The next day on the bus in Mexico, a guy asked me about my hat, said it looks like a nice one. Turns out the hat I purchased was a name brand hat... Scala and definitely worth what I paid for it and a good investment. Who knew............. read more

Your average run-of-the-mill souvenir shop. It's almost a bit too big for its own good. I went in to find myself a sailor hat (which I did) and was overwhelmed by underwhelming items. Maybe if they had a more specific theme or a smaller space it would feel less "plastic". read more

I am blown away by the other review. I've shopped at Island Threadz and their upscale sister store Island Style for a decade. The staff has never been anything less than wonderful. The owner of the store, John, goes out of his way to make sure customers (not just me) are satisfied... I've seen it with my own eyes. They do awesome custom embroidery. I've had the name of our boat embroidered on hats, shirts, sweaters. I've found their work so good and so cost competitive that I've had my company's logo embroidered on shirts I've bought from them and then had them ship to L.A. Yelpers, don't hesitate for a second to visit these stores. I hate to see good establishments like this suffer from a bad review. Go see for yourself and write your own review. I liked one of the shirts they had hanging outside so we stopped in. I thought they had a great selection of shirts, and they weren't any more expensive than I would expect in a tourist shop, about $22. Good quality, not the thin shirts you can buy for $5 or $10 and have them fall apart after a couple of washings. Bought two shirts and a magnet for our fridge, a little wooden cutout of the island. I thought it was nice, not the same junky plastic knick knacks as some of the other souvenir shops. I would shop here again, and the woman behind the counter was friendly. read more
