I've driven by many times and never stopped because there is ALWAYS a line and let's be honest when you're staving ain't nobody got time to wait! So, I took advantage of the holiday weekend to sneak in. I ordered the super burrito which is SUPER HUGE! It was just ok. Not really something I'd get again. The crunchy chicken tacos were for my littles and they approved. I would of liked to see a little more meat, they looked sad. The carne asada tacos were pretty tasty but not the best I've ever had. Worth the wait, or call ahead! They catered our family get together and the beans, rice, cheese enchiladas, pork tamales were perfect at a great price. The hot sauce is very hot and when used judiciously adds wonderful taste. They also have a self serve salsa bar with red and green along with fresh tomatoes, onions, peppers, and cilantro cut up. Last night was my first visit to El Chilito, and I can guarantee it will not be my last. We got a Carnitas plate and a chili releno plate, both were excellent. Good size portions; the Carnitas had a nice amount of meat, the seasoning was tasty, and the sides were good. Likewise with the chili releno, two large peppers, well prepared, very tasty, generous portions of sides and tortillas. read more

Great little Mexican restaurant with fantastic baja style fish tacos! The carne asada is also a great meal to get as well. Friendly service, but short on space so plan on getting it to go. Canby's best restaurant. El Chilito defines the phrase "hole in the wall". It's a tiny little place, but don't let that deter you from giving it a try. If I'm in Canby and feeling the need for really good, authentic Mexican food, I head to El Chilito to get four asada tacos (with everything) -- add their homemade hot sauce, a squeeze of lime, and some pickled jalapeños, and I'm a happy boy. Their horchata is really good too, so I've got to have one of those to wash it all down. They also have tasty burritos and quesadillas -- their al pastor is a good choice. Their beans and rice are top notch as well. The only thing keeping me from giving five stars is comparing them with my top Mexican choice in the area, Luis's Taqueria. I actually think El Chilito's asada tacos are a little tastier, but Luis's is a notch above in these key areas: homemade tortillas, atmosphere and cleanliness, and freshness of ingredients. If El Chilito starts making tortillas like Luis's, I'll put up another star. [Edit: 1/29/13] I stopped in to get a to-go lunch from El Chilito again today, and have decided to up my rating to 5 stars. I recently tried their al pastor tacos, and I actually like them *better* than the asada -- I didn't think that was possible! The al pastor has a little sweetness to it, with a rich, warm flavor that I just can't get enough of. They still don't have homemade tortillas, but I decided that if I found myself craving this place just as much as Luis's, then I'd better give it the same rating. Canby's best right here. read more

Made a random stop based on a third-party recommendation and SO glad I did! This is the proverbial hole-in-the-wall, and I mean that with the utmost respect. I had the super burrito with roast beef per the counter-persons recommendation. No regrets. It was huge, delicious, and cost-effective @ 9.75 U.S. There are two small tables so is essentially a take-out place. We got lucky and sat at one of the two tables. The person at the counter spoke fluent english, was knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, and gracious. My wife had quesadillas which were thick and plentiful. She had to take one home. I highly recommend El Chilito's and would not tule out a 50 mile round trip to eat there again. Excellent service, pricing, and food. Now go! read more

As a former lifetime resident of central California I have eaten my fair share of Mexican food. That being said I found once I moved to the PNW my options for authentic Mexican are much more limited. Here in Canby there are a handful of Mexican restaurants but nothing beats the tiny little place on the main drag named El Chilito. My favorite place to go we drive about 40 minutes round trip for this delicious food! Good portions & friendly staff. I usually get the 2 crunchy shredded beef tacos and they're so good. I love this place. Good prices and they don't skimp on anything. Big chunks of chicken in everything I I've ordered. I easily make everything two meals because of the portion sizes. Carne asada tacos are delicious. Small place and family owned. I wish they'd open a bigger place so I could sit and have a margarita but sadly no bar. Still doesnt hold me back from going though. I've tried this place 5 times now throughout the last 2 years, I like a lot of things about this place, and it seems like they'd have great tacos- but the quality in meats they choose I wasn't very impressed with. Fish tacos is a boxed fish stick. Steak was shredded and mushy. Chicken wasn't that great but was better... The most flavorful thing would be the pickled carrots and peppers. I feel like there's so much potential but they are slacking in one key element QUALITY MEAT. Makes me sad. I want amazing tacos. Probably one of my top three favorite Mexican food joints in Oregon. It seems family owned and it's a pretty small space, but I love everything about this place. The food is great, the service was fantastic. Everytime I'm in Canby, I drop by for lunch. It gets pretty busy for lunch so you may want to call and order ahead of time. My favorite things to get here is the chile relleno, churros, and horchata. read more

I love the food but if I'm going to be honest there alittle rude with there salsa they gave me the tiniest 2 portions of it and I asked for more and the women told me she can't, then she gave me a fake price $10 for a burrito?! This place is the bomb! I came here late on a Saturday and encountered a 15min wait, which was well worth it. We ended up getting the super burrito and the fish tacos. The fish tacos were delicious but very different from what most people are use to. So if you don't like very breaded fish I would avoid these. The super burrito doesn't make sense. Two hungry people could share it and walk away full. It's so heavy it almost breaks the styrofoam plate it's served on.
