Horrible experience! After 15 minutes of waiting, we finally had to ask to have our order taken. Server didn't bother to check on the sub par food until 2 out of the 3 of us were done eating. He asked me if I wanted a 2nd beer, I said yes and never saw it. Through the entire meal, we also had the joy of listening to their small child walking through the dinning room yelling. We try to support a local business and got treated like we were crap. When I pay the bill, I tell the person about my experience and all I get was "Have a good night". Wasted $65. read more

Great simple Mexican food. I started off with a house margarita came out to about $6 and it was plenty strong without tasting like lighter fluid. The chips and salsa tasted fresh with a little kick at the end. I ordered the burrito Deluxe which comes with house-made rice and refried beans and it was simple and delicious. No strange flavors with plenty of cheese and sour cream. Everything pared perfectly with the margarita and the chips. I was not overcharged and service was good and friendly. They always say you can judge the cleanliness of an entire restaurant by how clean the restroom is. If the things a customer CAN see (i.e. restrooms, menus, floors etc) are dirty, imagine how filthy the things you CAN'T see are (i.e. the kitchen, the cooks hands etc). Well this place had diaherria all over the restroom floor and walls. The toilet was a nightmare and I saw an employee enter and exit said dorty restroom and go back i to the kitchen, presumably to handle people's food. The diaherria was in their when he walked in and when we left it was still there. This isn't the first time I've seen it in this manner. I've been here, regrettably 3 times. 2 of the 3 times the restroom looked as bad as I mentioned above. The last time I was here, there was fresh puke in the parking lot and I observed people stepping in it, unbeknownst to them, and then tracking it into the restaurant. The food is soggy generic mexican food that is basically the leftovers of other, better mexican spots. I always regret giving this place a second chance and now remind myself never to go back. It is the only choice in Alexandria, so unless we drive to Anderson, this is it. But I'd rather not eat Mexican than eat here. The last time I went was the last straw, when they bullied my 88 year old grandma. Tried to charge us twice for a meal for my grandma because THEY got the order wrong. She ordered a taco salad with no meat, but they gave her ONLY meat...no salad. They blamed me for not checking the order (We had 3 full bags of food), told me I would have to buy another one despite the fact we had the untouched, incorrect bowl of meat with us ready to exchange for the correct item. The lady at the front desk called someone (perhaps a manager, not sure), and gave me the phone to sort it out. This person also refused to help. They eventually exchanged the incorrect order for the correct one, after trying to argue with and ambarrass us....all over a taco salad that we had already paid for. The lady at the front desk THREW the meal into the to-do bag and stormed off while talking trash about us in Spanish under her breath. What kind of unprofessional place is this?! I have never been to a restaurant where they get the order wrong and refuse to make the order correctly, while arguing in the lobby and trying to charge you for their mistake. Generally restaurants apologize for making a mistake and every one walks away happy. It wasn't like we ate the food and demanded a remake, the order was completely wrong. We weren't trying to pull a fast one for a taco salad considering we had just dropped $50 bucks on take out. My grandma just wanted a salad with no meat. Instead we got yelled at and an attempted overcharge/theft of more of our money. Besides, any place that would charge a person $11 for a large order of cheese dip and verbally abuses the elderly probably deserves to go out of business anyway. oh the sadness of dining for lunch in the Orestes/Alexandria/Elwood area. I came here for an interview lunch (evidently Mexican for lunch during an interview is not taboo anymore). I actually came back one other time because my co-worker insisted the fajitas were good, meh. AMBIANCE- the place is actually bigger than it looks from the outside. plenty of tables and booths can be found inside. Nothing fancy, pretty much what you would expect from a Mexican restaurant in Alexandria. SERVICE- service is quick. Servers aren't the friendliest people in the world, though they aren't rude by any means. They're pretty attentive too if you happen to be running low on chips and salsa or your beverage. MENU- nothing too special to write about. burritos, tacos, lunch combos, and daily specials. I didn't see anything too authentic (carne asada, al pastor, albondigas, etc..), so expect Americanized Mexican. I was excited to see that they had horchata, but it was chalky and not very sweet. BOO. FOOD- the first time I went I got a burrito, taco and enchilada combo. nothing special, just gringo mexican. The second time I went I got the steak fajitas. The steak fajitas were not very tender, though they did give you a lot. I guess that's not a good thing in this instance. My co-workers chicken ones were ok, but not something I would get again. We have always enjoyed the food regardless of what we have ordered. Tonight they went above and beyond. In the middle of a very cold snowy and blowing night, we came in with our partial group of twenty to a nearly empty restaurant. When I asked if they were trying to close up early they said no problem come on in. Some our party was delayed in the snow but they kept the kitchen open to make sure we were all served. Our waiter was so gracious even though I am sure he would have been happy to have been able to get home to his family early in this weather. This was our first time and it won't be our last. My husband had fajitas with steak and shrimp and I enjoyed bean burrito and ground beef soft tacos. The salsa was a bit spicy for me but very good. Arrived about noon on a Wednesday and was promptly greeted, seated, told the specials, and brought my beverage. I've never been here, but come through every 8-10 weeks. This will be my go to. I asked my servers favorite. She liked a couple things but her face lit up about the Poblano Salad. So, I ordered it. Basically a flash fried flour tortilla bent to hold everything like a big taco. Filled with lettuce, artery clogging cheese sauce, grilled chicken, steak, and shrimp, grilled onions and bell peppers, tomatoes, sour cream, and I added guacamole for a dollar. Yummers! The restaurant slowly filled up and people were all quickly tended to and their food arrived quickly as well. Free wifi is a bonus. Happy to find a non chain, with tasty food, helpful and quick staff, and a clean atmosphere. They even had 12 and 8 tops set so they can accommodate groups, too! Just a short drive from Muncie, one can find adequate respite from the all-consuming monster that is Puerto Vallarta. Don't get me wrong - it's an ok monster, but it's been dulling the palates of Delaware County long enough. Enter Chile Poblano: Evidently this joint has been open for years and Alec expats drive all the way back from Muncie (ha) for that taste of Mexico. How authentic is it? I don't know. However, it's tasty and their Burro Roqueta is fucking delicious. There's also an extensive collection of Mexican beers (eg Bohemia, Sol, Pacifico, Carta Blanca) and what has to be one of the better import coolers in Madison County (see the Nile for the best). It was alright, not fantastic, bur pretty alright, I had a steak covered in cheese, I dunno what it was called, but it was really good apparently it was supposed to be put in tortillas, but it was like a 12 oz T-bone for $10, not a bad deal in my book when it was really tender. It's a really big restaurant but has dated decor by how much I paid attention (I was really hungry and stared at my food the whole time). The service was really fast. Having a food allergy is one of the hardest things to deal with when going out to eat. When I mentioned having a gluten allergy to my server she ran and passed us on to another server. Then I asked for a list of ingredients and he said no. They were very rude and basically ignored our table because they didn't want to deal with me. Be forewarned.. Biggest problem with the restaurant is over charging. We've caught the same server three times now. Ask for another server after the first time seeing she was still there, and was told they had no one else to do the job in that area. After the third time of having the same server try to steal from us I called who I was told was the general manager. Just to have him say, "ok" as a response to my concerns. Small town disappointment. Our order consisted of steak fajitas, carnitas, chicken chimichangas, chips, and cheese. The steak fajitas were mixed with tomatoes and was reminiscent of bad Chinese food. The carnitas were serviceable though dry. The chimis were surprisingly good. Best thing of the night though was the chips and cheese. For a small town restaurant El Chile Poblano is excellent! Plenty of great friendly staff and the food is delicious. If you are going for lunch you can find an affordable meal in their lunch menu . For an enjoyable dinner, and maybe a drink it isn't the cheapest place to eat, but the meals are more than substantial. The Margaritas keep customers coming back for more, I can't personally attest to their magnificence, but I have been assured by multiple patrons that their margaritas are the best in the county. Overall there isn't anything bad I could say about El Chile Poblano. I would recommend stopping in the next time you are passing through Alexandria. read more

I'd give zero stars if I could. They repeatedly overcharge. Check your bill and add it up yourselves! The owner and her daughter are extremely rude and disrespectful. They gave terrible service, never came back to the table, never refilled our drinks, and then padded the bill, adding to the total claiming they were charging for chips and salsa, which are complimentary. This is illegal. If they charge for chips and salsa, or if there is a limit to how many servings a table can receive for free, then they need to mention that policy instead of simply adding it to the bill without listing it or telling the customer. (Btw, four of us got two baskets of chips and three small dishes of salsa) When I questioned it, they were extremely rude and hateful and both women treated me with so much disrespect. It was unreal. My wife is a magnificent, adventurous cook who has lived around the world and has more than her share of experience with ethnic foods. She doesn't heap praise lightly but, after visiting Mazatlan a couple of years ago and gorging on good Mexican fare, weI tried Chile Poblano for the first time. In her words, "I've never had better north of the border." I agree. The service is typically abrupt but not offensive (remember, the staff is from Mexico and that's their idea of friendly service) and its efficient. The margaritas are decent but a tad light on the booze so don't be afraid to tell your waiter to blow in the bartender's ear about the 'pour'. The food. Excellent. The pollos are all distinctive and perfectly seasoned with a magnificent Mexican cheese sauce with just the right degree of 'bite'. If you're a carne asada fan, you might want to pass since the meat is a bit to bland to be corrected by the pico de gallo which is killer! Loaded with cilantro which is so often skimped on in other Mexican restaurants. The salsa could be a bit chunkier but flavorful. This is burrito heaven, though. Not a bad choice in the lot and I've tried them all. Don[t' miss this place and don't confuse it for the Poblano down in Andertucky. This is one time to go north for the best Mexican fare. read more
