Do not recommend this restaurant!!! I went out for a girls dinner night to try some "authentic" Mexican food. Unfortunately, this is not the place. First and foremost, our waiter was not too friendly. When we asked for napkins, she brought is a bunch of silverware with the one napkin around it. So we had to open up all the silverware to use the napkin. They started us off with salsa and chips. Really nothing special to it. It's your basic corn chips. I've had better salsa store bought in a jar from Kroger's. The quest cheese dip was really nothing special either. It was quite water for cheese. I ordered the fillet plate which was grilled tilapia with rice and salad. My friends ordered a super burrito and a chicken enchilada I believe with rice and a bean dip. All three of us were highly disappointed with our food. It was completely tasteless. I couldn't even finish it. This restaurant is not true to its name. I don't believe this to be true Mexican food. I've come here near closing time several times now, and food has been very average, no real stand outs. A few weeks ago my friend got the chili relleno which tasted thawed. The chips and salsa are great, and are provided upon seating. They're open until 10, which works for last minute tex-mex cravings. I have yet to see a mariachi band, now that'd really spice things up! read more

There's a lot of Mexican food in this town, I'd look elsewhere. Some might call it "authentic". Not kid friendly, hot plates dropped right in front of toddler, had to get our own high chair. Nothing particularly unique about menu, typical mexi fare. read more

It's a good place to get lunch. I've never gotten anything I didn't like. I recommend the fajitas or the fish. Tortilla soup is also good. The salsa is solid and they bring you plenty. Searching through Yelp for a reasonably priced, local restaurant in Jackson, we found this place. It was a stellar find! My boyfriend and I split one of the build-you-own combo platters with a stuffed poblano pepper, potato enchilada, the best mushroom quesadilla I have ever had, a ground beef taco and rice and beans with two margaritas for $14! The atmosphere is great, but the home runs were the amazingly affordable price, super fast service and the best mushroom quesadilla in the history and future of mankind. Stop here if on a road trip! We were here on a Sunday afternoon traveling thru town on the highway. Read the reviews and thought we HAD to stop. We are happy we did. Very fast courteous service, food was very good and reasonably priced. The business was clean and slightly dated in decor, but when the food is good who cares right? my co-worker and I sat at the bar last night so we could watch the game while we ate. we waited and waited just to get a drink order in, then had to be told to wait again to put our supper order in. slow, very indifferent, service. though, the food did come out fairly quickly once the order was taken. the tamales had almost no filling in them at all. the 'super burrito' was hardly more than an enchilada. everything tasted ok. but the serving sizes were really poor. My sister and I visited this location last night. The waitress was VERY rude and acted as though she was unconcerned with EVERYTHING. She threw the items she placed on the table every time she came to the table. I spoke with the front desk hostess and asked for a different waitress. Instead of switching waiters they called her to where we were discussing and spoke in Spanish about the situation and laughed and basically disregarded everything i said because she remained the server and got more aggressive.!! This is our favorite place for Mexican food. Always wonderful service and delicious food. You can tell the people who own it take pride in their work. Always so clean. If you look up at all the things in the decor that could catch dust, you won't find any. The light fixtures are clean. Table tops and seating always clean. Muy, Muy Bueno all around!!! read more

How does a place like this get 4.5 stars? I'm from out of town, and maybe this is one of the best here, but it is absolutely mediocre, at best. Margarita, sickly sweet and very little booze. Carnitas looked like brown globs of rat meat, tasted a little better. Went here last night based on Yelp reviews. It was good food, good service, and cold beer. I had the molcajete(sp?), and that is one hot lava rock. It was still bubbling 20 minutes after it was served. Spicy dish that my eyes watering but it was sneaky hot. I would return here and would get this again. read more

This is my family's go to Tex/Mex spot. I'm a big fan of the Tacos Adobada. My kids like the quesadillas. The margaritas are sometimes a bit watered down, but the food is consistently decent, and inevitably we run into people we know. read more

The Service is TERRIBLE! They are rude. The woman never smiled she rushed us when ordering. When we got our food half of it was wrong. I waited on a high chair for twenty minutes. Then when we got the check she charged us for three waters. It was the worst experience ever. read more

We arrived at El Charro tired after a long day of driving with three children in the car. Our margaritas arrived promptly and they were tasty. The queso fundido was delicious. The cheese enchiladas were quite good and the chicken chimichanga was also very good, and not as huge as in many places. The nacho chips were not as flavorful as other places we've experienced. If I could rate this place 0 stars after my experience I definitely would without hesitation. I have been ordering take out from this place over the last year. I have never felt welcomed by the gentleman at the front. I admit that is not a big deal. I can deal with that. However my experience last night makes me feel differently. In the last two months every time I order it is never correct when I get home. The first two times I made a call. I talked to the man at the front counter. He made it right, but was not thrilled about doing so. I ordered some last night. I get home and my order is messed up. I call and start to head back up there. I explained to him that this is the third time in two months that my order has had large portions missing. I'm not hard to please, but when I pay for a service or good, just like anyone else, I expect to be satisfied. He told me I was wrong. I told him that I heard my wife make the order in the car right beside me and even heard her reiterate certain parts to make sure he would understand and that the order would be correct. I he told me I was lying and I said I would never be back and he told me never to come back. As a man who runs a business, I know that customer service is key to being successful. I was dismayed that I was treated that way. I took to Facebook to write my less than pleasant experience only to find that they have many 1 star reviews and not a single one had been replied to. I am sure it is not even worth writing one there, because I am certain nothing will be done. I am not entirely sure if the man at the front counter is the business owner or the manager, but whatever he is, he is not good at it. I'm not one to write reviews about such things, but I felt I had to do so for other people who are looking for a place to eat with a friendly environment. I expect nothing from them, but if they are smart they will do something about this situation before more people come to find out how little customer service means to them. Taco Bell has better customer service skills. I would recommend Sombra, El Portillo, El Sombrero, Cazadores or any other Mexican restaurant before referring anyone to this place. read more

The atmosphere is nice, it gives you the impression that it is an authentic Mexican restaurant. The salsa is ok, could be spicier. The cheese on my beans and in my cheese enchilada just tasted wrong. I went there for take out. The food and service was horrible. I did not feel welcome at all. I ordered the burrito and tried to specify how I wanted it. I was told by the owner that there were no substitutions allowed. Instead of raw onions we wanted grilled and no beans, that did not happen. Staff was friendly. Chips and salsa were ok, but not great. Margarita tasted like super sweet cheap margarita mix, could not taste any alcohol.
