The service and staff were excellent, but the food did not match. My girlfriend and I stopped in for a late lunch and were warmly greeting and promptly seated. We both ordered different entrees and we both commented the food was bland. The chips did not taste fresh and the items in the combination plates needed salsa to kick up the flavor. My wife and I were traveling and vacationing and in need of dinner on a Sunday night. After checking into our hotel in Beaumont, we went searching for a restaurant. We made a great choice! My cheese enchilada and beans were excellent. My wife's fajita was huge (she only ate half of it, at the most) and it was very tasty. The restaurant is decorated to the hilt with bright, busy colors on the walls and tablecloths. I thought the decorations were cheesy and over the top, but I like the place anyway. My wife thought the decorations were done to be humorous. This restaurant, located in a small shopping center or strip mall, has very good staff. It's a popular place with great, inexpensive food. Recently moved from LA. Thought we knew Mexican food. One word describes this establishment. Fabulous! Nicest servers I have ever met. RitzCarlton attentiveness. Two sauces for chips, the roasted tomatillo is addictive. Fish was in a wonderful Veracruz sauce, fresh and great to the last bite. Gosh I love this food. Been going here since '06. I remember this specific location constantly changing restaurants and never surviving. But this one is doing great. The chips and salsa are delicious, and I can't help but to always order the chicken enchiladas and chicken soft tacos. We stopped by for a quick lunch . We ordered 2 burritos one bean and cheese and one ground beef. My friend asked for them to put everything on it. 2nd visit and so-so....not to sure why the positive reviews unless some people are not too sure what good service is. My Menudo that I ordered was cool, not even hot. Every time we go to El Charro, it is an enjoyable meal. They do a good job with the fajitas, carne asada burrito and enchilada's. The shrimp cocktail is good, and the drinks are so large I feel like I ordered a super big gulp. This is now my go-to mexican restaurant in the area since Pitaya's closed down. read more

This is where I go when I don't want food or service disappointment. I know what I'll get here. Good chips and salsa (i like more pico de gallo) excellent shrimp cocktail (perfect for hot weather), good tacos and tostados. The Chili Rellano is only so-so and the tomales don't have enough meat. Chips, what happened to this restaurant. We have bought food here since it opened in this location. Now that orders to go are more popular they no longer provide chips with to go orders. They have always provided a small brown bag with to go orders and now they provide a small McDonalds french fry bag size of chips. When I asked what happened and if I could have more they said this is what to go orders come with. I responded, now this is what comes with to go orders, we have been to go order customers for years and have never seen these small bags. These new bags are reduced 10 fold from the old. They quickly said I can pay for a bigger bag? Wow I can only assume I would be paying for what used to come with to go orders. Keep in mind we ordered 2 combination dinner plates at a cost of $25 but no real chips to speak of unless we wanted to purchase them. I have went to El Charro 3 to 4 times a week to grab a taco or a enchilada never had a bad meal. Well cant say that now had to drive up there to put order in because they had phone off the hook. put my order in came home worst meal ever 47,00 dollars down the drain. the Chicken enchilada were like cheese 2 little pieces of chicken that's it .The beef taco you could not even bite into. The eggs were uneatable. the flour tortilla was as hard as a rock. so i called i got we can re make them i told them no thanks not driving back uop tonight well then i don't know what to do I will tell the cooks. well guess what they lost my Business. The food and service are good. The decor is outdated though. I know that's probably not the most important thing about a restaurant but it could use some updating. I went into the ladies' restroom and there is a hole in the wall along with a cracked mirror. Things like that should be fixed. It makes me wonder what's "behind the scenes". read more

We used to come here all the time with friends and family being one of the better Mexican restaurants in the area. Things have definitely changed over the past year. We tried to support them throughout the various "shutdowns" only to have issues each time. From missing items resulting in returning trips, to long wait times despite arriving AFTER the quoted time. I once paid and was asked to wait in the car only to wait 15 minutes and when I inquired about the order they had "forgot" about it despite it sitting on the counter getting cold. Mind you I always tipped well and before even taking possession of my order. Most recent trip was a dine in experience resulting in the server bringing a regular Pepsi instead of diet for one in our group, no big deal mistakes happen. This was to be followed up by asking for another bowl of salsa for the other half of.our party, reasonable request given the bowls around 3oz which didn't come until someone else asked if we needed anything else. One in our party didn't get beans and rice with their combo plate, opened all the Styrofoam boxes to show the server who came back a few minutes later with the ticket to verify the order as if someone was trying to swindle them out of a side of beans and rice. Needless to say they got their beans and rice right before we paid and left. I'm all for supporting local businesses and cutting SOME slack given the current conditions but there is a point where it's just too much. read more

Four of us went there tonight for "Taco Night", where each taco is $1.00. Three ordered the tacos, the chicken soup and tripe. I ordered their shredded beef burrito supreme. All was absolutely excellent. The service was top notch, the cleanliness of the restaurant was perfect. The portions were excellent too. This was topped off with flan for four and it too was excellent. We will certainly return to this Inland Empire treasure. read more

We stopped to have lunch at El Charro as we drove up Beaumont Ave to Oak Glen. My husband ordered the lunch special which was chile verde enchiladas for around $7. He claimed that he wasn't very hungry when we sat down, but he said these enchiladas were so good, he ate everything on the plate! I ordered a combination plate of shredded beef taco and chile relleno for around $7. I have to say, this taco was the best I ever had! Full of meat and cheese with a crispy tortilla shell! The chile was cooked to perfection, full of cheese! The rice was fluffy and the beans seasoned to perfection! For the price and food quality, it's worth the detour from Interstate 10! The town is quaint with streets lined with trees. This back road to Oak Glen is lovely! read more

Went in on a Sunday afternoon. Chili relleno , chicken taco and chicken enchilada are all excellent. The chili in the Relleno was fresh. It was refreshing that the beans were not overly salty and the rice was fluffy and flavorful. Service was great everyone who work there seemed friendly and interested in your experience. Oops, the food looked so good I forgot to take a picture. My chile relleno was excellent. My niece's enchilada was good. The beef in her taco wasn't that flavorful. But this was a great place to stop on our way back from the Edward Dean Museum where we just went to a great workshop on Victorian and Steampunk costumes getting ready for their festival on December 5. My family and I were eating here, food and service were great as always. While we were eating, there was some dispute over the manners of some children near our table; however, the El Charro staff knew how to fairly regard both parties partaking in the dispute. The staff dealt with the situation fair and square. I will definitely come back many times and, as mentioned before, the food is always cooked on point. The rice and beans have a homestyle flavor that makes one want to eat many times more at the same place. It was the first time I took my family and they also enjoyed it. EL Charro is probably one of the best Mexican restaurants we have found in the last several years. The food is terrific, the salsa is awesome and the service is the best we've seen in a long time. We're so happy we have found our new weekly hangout. And, if you come out on the right evening you will enjoy the sounds of the mariachi playing while you dine.
