Not sure why but Yelp didn't catch the change in name. For past several months the restaurant is now " Los Chilaquiles." I ordered chips, salsa and guacamole as my SOP when eating at a Mexican restaurant for the first time. All were very good although I suspect the guacamole is commercially made. Went with their specia"Combo 2 Amigos" - tender bite-sized pork in a red (Colorado) sauce and a green ( Verde) sauce with rice and beans served with choice of flour or corn tortillas. Flavorful, served hot and I would order again. Service was with a great smile and attentive. Ambiance was typical of a Mexican restaurant but roomy with lots of room. While I was there I felt like I was an "outsider" as many local couples and families were there. Will try again on next trip through. read more

Chips, salsa and guacamole were excellent. The service was great too. They refilled my ice tea several times. The ambience of this place is really nice. For some reason they had a sign on their door that read, "No alcohol, sorry for the inconvenience" The reason I can only give 3 stars is that the tortilla soup I ordered was not very good. The chicken tasted like it had been in the refrigerator too long and was about to go bad. They also needed to cut the chicken into smaller pieces. Stop in you'll love it! There is no photo because we devoured our food. We're on our way home from a trip of the Northwest and stopped for dinner and fuel. After a week of seafood we were craving Mexican. This place was delicious! The chips came out warm and the salsa was so good. We all loved our food and the service was unbelievably quick. I am giving 3 stars due to the customer service being decent. The food is not really up to par. Beans were bland and the beef in my taco and enchilada was VERY greasy. Taco shell was not made in house and was from food service company. Table salsa was also not flavorful. I may go back to try the menudo but nothing else. I am extremely disappointed. Will never come here again. I'm convinced the kitchen consists of cheese, chicken, tortillas, a can of beans, instant rice and a big ass microwave. Looks like a nuclear disaster. Shredded cheese from a bag melted on top of an enchilada with less sauce on it than crumbs on the table. So terrible that I am still sitting here writing this review, I didn't even leave the restaurant before yelping. We searched for Mexican Resturants in Pendleton and this was one of two that came up. The decor is authentic and very nice. The problem is with the food and margaritas. Very average at best. The margaritas tasted as if there was no tequila in them. It tasted like the mix with not tequila! The food was ok. One note is they made my wife's crab enchiladas with fake crab. For the life of me I don't understand how a Resturant is not required to disclosed that they use fake crab in their meals. But they do. When the waitress took our order she was looking in the other room as if we were not all that interesting. I had the chimichangas. They were dry and tasted as if they were microwaved! Having recently moved back to Pendleton, this was the first opportunity to try it as it did not exist when I moved away years ago. My housemate was hungry for Mexican food usually ordered and picked up from another restaurant, which would not answer their phone. We were pleasantly surprised and well satisfied with our orders, both liking them better than the comparison meals from their competitor. Both were nicely placed in large heavy (recyclable ) platter sized paper plates covered with aluminum foil to prevent soaking in. We will be ordering again. read more

The food was standard fare, the margaritas were good, the staff were really nice and the place was clean. We were excited that they had sopapillas on the menu but the waiter was honest enough to explain that the sopapillas weren't the traditional ones - they were just tortilla chips fried. We stopped here on our road trip back to Portland because the Yelp reviews were good. This confounds me because the food was pretty terrible. I ordered a vegetarian burrito, which ended up being some sautéed broccoli and TONS of celery. I think that there was a carrot sliver or two as well, but no rice, no beans, no cheese, no sour cream, no guac, no nothing! Very confusing. To make matters worse, the entire "burrito" was covered in iceberg lettuce and diced tomatoes. It was not tastey to say the least. My partner ordered the bean tostada, which was just some canned refried beans, a boat load if iceberg lettuce, and some diced tomatoes. The wait staff were nice enough, but I wouldn't classify the service as anything beyond OK. In short, I'd recommend trying one of the other Mexican restaurants in Pendleton. read more

I regularly travel to Pendleton to work, and I always stop here for supper. Most of it is what you'd expect, but the choice and flavor surpasses average expectations. We were excited for restaurant to reopen, but were very disappointed. Margarita was completely tasteless and watered down. Did not taste any alcohol. Ordered taquitos made with shredded beef which had no flavor. They were not fried crispy, but were limp. Order was supposed to be topped with guacamole, but they were out (at 5:00 dinner hour). Poor quality food that really can't be classified as Mexican. I ordered a bean tostada and what I got was a massive pile of tasteless iceberg lettuce piled atop a refried bean-filled tostada that came directly from a can or plastic bag with zero spices or other distinguishing characteristics. I originally went here because the ratings were quite solid, but those who commented with strong ratings must be easy to please or haven't seen how real Mexican food is spiced and made to be unique. Sorry, Charrito, but I have to give you the lowest score for complete lack of creativeness when it comes to your menu. I have been here twice in the last month, once with my wife for dinner and once with business associates for lunch. Service was very good both times. Food is just fine, but not spectacular. The restaurant is clean, and the decor is good. Lunch for 4 was $26, so it's a good value. This is a "Me, Too" sit down, Mexican Restaurant. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Pendleton. I've been a regular here for years. The food is reliably consistant. The shredded beef is rarely too tough (better than the others in this area). For less than $10 I get enough food for two meals. The salsa is also pretty good. I'm giving it 5 stars for being the best in Pendleton, although I have had better when traveling. read more

I like El Charrito. The people are really nice. The food is just your typical tex/mex food. That's kind of what we get in Pendleton. I'm a vegetarian. I like that I have options at this place. A weak margarita and uninteresting food mar an otherwise positive experience here. The staff is attentive and professional in an Old World way not often seen in this country. They were immaculately neat, as was the facility. The decor was lovely, the place in good repair, the bathrooms clean as could be. If you are easy to please regarding your food, you might be alright, but as far as great Mexican goes, not happening. I had order envy, because another table got fajitas, and they looked pretty good.We had some rather bland enchiladas. Also, no one can convince me that mole sauce is half peanut butter.
