Enchiladas Mole
Jill S.

We were in Isla Mujeres for a week and ate at El Charco 3 times. It was, by far, our favorite spot. You are eating on the first floor of Deisy's and Raul's home. We felt like family. There are 5 tables insides and 2 tables outside. They are only open at night. We tried several tacos, guacamole, sopas, salbutes, panuchos, flautas, enchiladas suizas, and enchiladas mole. The guac was our favorite on the island. The salbutes and panuchos are similar, but still very good. The flautas, enchiladas suizas, and enchiladas mole are the best!

I love this mom and pop shop. This was our first dinner on the island late at night and it healed my soul. Their chicken soup and lime soup was the most flavorful thing I've had with crispy tortilla crisps wow. It was like their grandmother put her foot in it, no words healed my soul. Their salsas are spicyyyy beware BEWARE!!! they not messing with the spice here We got carne asada, pork chops with cheese, pork tacos and wow, those corn tortillas they were pressed fresh themselves but let me talk about the pork chop, it was my favorite thing I had. Sooooo soo so much flavor. No words- a MUST! We got something else, forget the name but wow the base was different from corn tortilla it was thicker and crispy and wow a must, it comes with shredded chicken but I would ask next time to pay more and substitute it for the pork chops because omg they were delicious. They have beans, potatoes, guacamole, salsa on the table you can grab for your dishes. The potatoes are a must, sooo flavorful and a must. Not too spicy, so flavorful!! I love this place so much, it was so heartwarming and so delicious. Will be back when I visit again .)

Verde Enchiladas

Well this was a great find. Off the beaten path in a house. Place is very small and only has 6 tables inside and 2 outside. It was very clean and decorated with baseball stuff from their kids I assume. They are Minnesota Twins I guess they had several decorations. Opens at 6pm. We arrived at 6:15 and Deisy was still opening the restaurant. She was very nice and tried her best with English. She is the only one working the front and Raul is doing the cooking. We started with Guacamole and Flautas. The Guacamole was big enough to share and the Flautas could be a meal in itself. The Guacamole was ver fresh as was the Flautas. They have several enchiladas. This was our last night and that was what we was told about. So we got one order of all of them. They was out of the red. We tried the Swiss Enchiladas first. Inside was chicken. Very very soft. The sauce on it was great. Next we had the Verde Enchiladas. It's and green salsa type sauce that is mild but very tasty. Last was the Mole Enchiladas. One of the best mole sauces I have ever had. All of the enchiladas was chicken. I don't care for chicken enchiladas usually because they are dry or overcooked. These were not!!! The sauces at this place are what make it so good. We are at 6:30 and it's now 12:48am and I'm heating up the leftovers. Our bill was 990 pesos so a little over 60USD. We had enough food for 4 people easy. We just wanted to try it all before we left. So figure 30 bucks for two people is a great deal. Don't let the neighborhood scare you off. Get there at 6 pm or you could be waiting. PS: I didn't want to say anything or rub it in, but I think I'll send them some Texas Rangers Banners!!!!! World Series 2023 Baby!!!!!

Take out. Comes with all those sauces and toppings in the baggy. That guac is one order! Generous portions

Not many people know of this mom and pop restaurant that is tucked away. It is one of those roads you venture down aimlessly just because we were originally going to basto's grill but they didn't offer take away so we asked for a table for 2 and they said it's a 40 min wait... welp off we go venturing! So we happen to find this kitchen run by a cute Mexican couple. They have around 8 bowls of toppings and sauces in the front table and if you were to get take out like we did then you would get to take them home with you to enjoy in the comfort of your own leisure. We ordered roast pork and beef tacos with side of guacamole and chips. BOY Was the guac portion massive lol. They are so generous! The total came out to be 450 pesos ($22 usd). We enjoyed it very much and it was incredibly fresh and authentic. I'm glad it wasn't overly salty either. Overall experience and food were just what we were looking for. I hope this review attracts many tourists that are foodies who are looking for authentic eats with the upmost friendly hospitality from the folks that run this restaurant.

Sopa de limon with hot sauce that really makes it pop.

This is a tiny, family owned loncheria on a side street mid-island. Also known as "Deisy y Raul." They moved to the current location about a year ago; it's worth seeking out. Cheap, hearty Mexican home cooking. The sopa de limon had a ton of chicken and came with a mountain of tortilla strips. Tacos were great and there's a salsa bar with pico, salsas of various heat, plus beans and boiled potatoes to round out a hearty meal. On another visit I tried the beef alambre which was sort of taco-like too. I was happy to support this hard-working family.

She was walking us a little towards the back, but since it was my first time to Isla, I wanted to people-watch, so I asked about a table up front. As soon as we headed over, I saw why she passed it - it was right next to the saxophone player! Thank goodness his volume level was perfect! Just loud enough to be heard over the crowds walking down the 'lane' out front and the restaurant diners' chatting. But not so loud that we 3 couldn't chat. We loved it! Now these two can EAT - and love to try everything on the menu, whereas I tend to eat smaller portions. I ordered the shrimp tacos and they were fantastic - huge pieces of shrimp, so good! The lobster mac n cheese is so good, I would have loved to bring a big container of it home with me! The restaurant is very busy but very clean and tables are well organized for maneuvering a quick trip to the restroom before leaving. Our server, Maylen was attentive and pleasant. The bar area, facing the street, looked like a lot of fun, I'll have to try it next time!

And the saxophone player walked up to them played for them. That looked pretty nice. We sat next to the bar and there were some obnoxious gringos at the bar while we were there... which is common on the north side of the island.

Coffee was great, friendly...highly reccomend you give this local place a try for breakfast! **UPDATE** We came back to try dinner a day later and it was wonderful! My husband had the whole fried fish and it was delicious! I chose the shrimp fajitas which came with grilled onions & peppers. We both had rice and small salad. All fresh tasting, cooked well, and no overkill by unnecessary spices. We also ordered the fresh pico de gallo and that was fantastic!!! The folks are so kind, the whole experience is great!
