I found my spot for menudo in Richmond on 23rd St y'all! I come here just for the menudo. I haven't ventured out to other menu items. Hubby has tried the burrito and tacos. Ooouuu, the tripas tacos are fire! My son tried the authentic quesabirrias. He ate it and enjoyed the consomé, but next time we will sub out the meat option. I need to up my Spanish speaking game. The owner and staff are always so nice either way and I get my order in just fine! Place is always clean and we get fresh chips and salsa. Oh, and hubby enjoyed his michelada!

Gordita de Chicharron. I wish I would've take the picture sooner but it was hella good.

We found a new spot for Consomé and Barbacoa! We came across this place while driving in the area and we're glad we did. Their set up is pretty well thought out to streamline the ordering/dine-in/pick-up. The staff is friendly and helpful. We've ordered the Huarache, Gorditas, Consomé and barbacoa, and Panbazos. We were pleasantly surprised at how good it all was and had the authentic taste too. I make my own panbazos and these were GOOD! They're barbacoa and Consomé is delicious and highly recommend this place. La barbacoa y consomé están requisitos y no meten gordura ni huesos a la libra. This is our new go to place for Barbacoa and consomé.

El Chaparro has 1/2 of it's menu in Spanish which is a good sign this place is authentic. order inside. takeout only. no outside dining. offerings: tacos, quesadillas, tortas, burritos, breakfast, grilled meat by weight, sides, plates, drinks. eats: barbacoa, adobada tacos @3.00 -lime squeeze, cilantro, onions, red salsa came in separate plastic cups -barbacoa, adoboda(marinated pork) very fresh, tasty on house made flour tortillas. generous portions -tacos aren't sauced, so it's a natural taste. u add it. red salsa has a unique type of chili, has heat, not super hot. 4.5 stars. great value, fresh ingredients....

Been here three times in the last week. Its been prety consistent. Keep in mind that The prices on the menus dont match the prices they charge you. Its a bit annoying but not a big difference, hopefully they update their menus to reflect the new prices theyre charging.

1/2 lb. barbacoa small consommé rice and beans

Delicious lamb barbacoa served with warm homemade tortillas, flavorful salsas, and a generous amount of cilantro and onions. I ordered the 1/2 lb barbacoa with a small consommé (still quite a large bowl) along with a side of rice and beans. Reminded me a bit of South Philly Barbacoa in Philadelphia. Finished the meal with some warm atole de elote to drink. I loved this meal!

It's hard to find good Mexican food in the bay, being raised in LA I have a good taste for tacos and Mexican dishes. Not to mention my mamas cooking was fire. So when we found this place driving on our way back home, BF spotted it and urged me to stop. The second I walked in I recognized the smells of tortillas being heated up and meat mixed with aroma of spices being cooked. I saw the chille relleno plate on the menu and I knew I had to get it. BF got gorditas de chicarrón. I ate most of his third gordita . I was taken back to my mothers native birthplace, Uruapan Michoacán and the authentic Mexican food I loved growing up. I can't forget the handmade aguas frescas, our favorite melon Service was quick and friendly! Our food got to our belly's within 20 minutes. Please go support Mexican owners in Richmond!

Everything was delicious! 3 of us spilt the 1/2 pound of lamb Barbacoa and a small consommé and it was the perfect amount of food. The lamb came perfectly cooked, tender and flavorful. The dish came with hot, tasty corn tortillas, 2 very different and flavorful sauces with fresh onions and cilantro to top off your self-made tacos. They also included fresh corn tortilla chips with another spicy salsa. It was fantastic. Fresh and flavorful. I would definitely recommend El Chaparro!

    8lb. Burrito... I mean $8

Ran into this place on accident but it was still worth it. Standard menu for so I went ahead and ordered an Al Pastor burrito to-go since I didn't want to get hit with rush hour. Was very surprised by the weight of the bag when I left. Turned out they gave me more than I had imagined. This thing was huge! (See photo) I actually had to pull over and eat some of it (don't burrito and drive, folks). They also include a bag of chips and some spicy chipotle salsa which was fire! Too much fire for me. Will be back for more!

Excellent Mexican Food in a pleasant cozy venue. Friendly service, but you have to hunt them down…read moreto refill our water glasses. IN THE CHIPS: Kicking things off, the Chips and Salsa are now $3.85 for an order, but they were worth the money - light and airy, and the salsa just barely had a hint of heat to it. Just perfect. (5/5) THE BEANS.. Perusing the menu, whatever plate you order, you can specify the kind of beans you want (black beans, pinto beans, refried beans). I chose the black beans, but specified "no cheese" on them in a semi-futile attempt to stay on the healthy side. =) SEAFOOD TACOS I decided on the Seafood Taco Platter, where you get one shrimp taco and a fish taco along with a big side of beans and lots of rice. Each taco comes with a double layer of corn tortillas with grilled shrimp, or fish topped by shredded cabbage drizzled with a lime aioli. Instead of deep fried, the shrimp and fish on each taco were grilled to perfection, instead of deep fried. The fish filet was diced and stir-fried with a wonderful aroma. Instead of making a mess, I decided just to eat my taco by slicing and dicing it from the plate. Super good! (5/5) One of my dining partners had the mole here a year ago and loved it, so now that he was back in town, he made this place a prime objective for his visit again to the Bay! Yeah.. I'd tend to agree.. Worth coming back.

Our food was beyond lukewarm. They forgot my child's main dish. They rushed an order of grilled chicken & and it tasted nasty. You could either taste the chicken juice or it was spoiled chicken. The chicken mole had maybe half a breast of chicken. The entire plate was random chilly pepper/ pickled onion. Along with my fajitas. Chicken was decent but had random veggies. Grilled asparagus/ pickled radish/ the basic onion/ bell pepper. No salad, no Guac, no sour cream. Back to the service- we returned the Chicken only to get $5 off the bill. The server was nice but wasn't attentive, never had came back to check on us. I had to go up and ask for the bill. Idk the service and food was horrible. The food had no season and didn't taste like anything. Don't recommend ever

It was more than enough food but we just couldn't stop eating because of how delicious it was! The sweet corn tamale was like a dessert, but paired with the tang and salt of the sour cream and cotija cheese it became a refreshing sweet and salty bite. It was a traditional corn dough and the texture was insanely soft, unlike most of the dry tamales I have had before. The pache tamale was truly the star. I had no idea what I was ordering, but I'm so glad that I managed to get this item in my order. The masa is made with potatoes instead of corn which gives it a smooth and melt in your mouth texture and a savory, addictive flavor. The pork inside is juicy and tender. Each bite is complete with the tangy pickled onions. The chuchitos were like the traditional Mexican tamales I am used to, with corn masa and stuffed with flavor and juicy chicken. The tamales are doused in a delectable red sauce and topped with cotija, sour cream, and more pickled onions. They were delightful. The garnachas were definitely the other star of this order. I had never had tostadas like them before, with flavorful and juicy chopped meat, salsa, and cotija. They are served with pickled veggies to add spice and tang, but what surprised me the most was the sautéed cabbage placed on top of each garnacha. The cabbage was so flavorful and soft, and despite all of the other sources of flavor it made itself known. The chile relleno plato was unlike what I am used to. Often, the chile rellenos my family eats are poblano peppers stuffed with oaxacan cheese, these were not that at all. In a way, this dish resembled more of a stuffed bell pepper, with a red pepper filled with chopped meat and veggies. I did get a piece of cartilage which made me a little wary when taking a bite but it was so delicious I couldn't help myself. The black beans it came with were flavorful and the dressing of the salad was amazing and reminiscent of a green goddess dressing. The service was amazing. The people were sweet and accommodating. I also really enjoyed the ambience even though I did order pick up. There are murals and bright colors lining all of the walls, giving the place a welcoming and fun vibe. Overall, with the amazing food, sweet faculty, and beautiful setting, it is impossible to go to this place and not feel an immediate lift in mood.
